This final chapter of Titus will cover Christian citizenship, and basis for Christian ethics, discipline of factious men and personal plans. As well as the final greetings. Titus 3 and verse 1 reads.
Titus 3:1] Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
Don’t break the laws of your community, you can’t serve the Lord if your reputation is tarnished.
Titus 3:2] To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.
Discipline yourselves and be humble.
Titus 3:3] For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
Paul never forgave himself for how he persecuted the church, he just missed Isa.7:14. But don’t be like Paul, learn how to forgive yourself. The Lord opened his eyes in his due season.
Titus 3:4] But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
Isa.7:14 and Matthew 1:23. Let’s go to Matthew 1 and pick it up with verse 22 and it reads.
.
Mat.1:22] Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Spoken of in Isa.7:14.
Mat.1:23] Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Back to Titus 3 and verse 5 reads.
Titus 3:5] Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Washing is baptism. Renews us by the Holy Spirit.
Titus 3:6] Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
Shed means poured out. Grace is love. Let’s go to Ezekiel and read more clearly. Eze.36:25-26 and it reads.
Eze.36:25] Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
[26] A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
The Lord loves us so much, most people can’t understand, but we do and give thanks and tell him as often as we can, we love him too. Back to Titus 3 and verse 7 reads.
Titus 3:7] That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Justified by his love for us, we become heirs, this is what Esau refused. But we are of Jacob and seek life everlasting.
Titus 3:8] This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
Our works are the only thing we can take with us to heaven. Let’s go to Rev.14 and verse 13 reads.
Rev.14:13] And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
Back to Titus 3 and verse 9 reads.
Titus 3:9] But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
Law is lawyer, they do not have the doctrine of Jesus Christ.
Titus 3:10] A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;
He is a divisive person, and should be kicked out of the church if he keeps it up. First give warning then the boot. Never allow a distraction among the congregation.
Titus 3:11] Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
These people condemn themselves.
Titus 3:12] When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter.
[13] Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.
Notice he asks for these people a lot, they were very helpful for his ministries.
Titus 3:14] And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.
Paul is saying for them to teach those in the church to maintain the church while they are with him, that they also might learn to be good bishops and elders. Always preparing the students to be teachers.
Titus 3:15] All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.
Another great letter from Paul. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
