In today’s study our titles are; Verses 1-12 The Remnant of Israel. Verses 13-24 The Gentiles are warned. Verses 25-33 The restoration of Israel. Verses 34-36 The Almighty God. Romans 11and verse 1 reads.
Rom.11:1] I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
Paul was also a freeborn Roman citizen. Let’s go to 2Corinthians 11 and verse 22 reads.
2Cor.11:22] Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I.
[23] Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.
[24] Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
[25] Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;
Paul was stoned in Acts 13 for repeating the same teachings that Stephen was stoned for. He went to the third heaven which is unlawful for him to speak about, and was raised from the dead right in front of the disciples.
2Cor.11:26] In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
[27] In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
[28] Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.
Besides all the persecutions, he had the churches only on his mind. Back to Romans 11 and verse 2 reads.
Rom.11:2] God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,
[3] Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
Elias is Elijah. They were after Elijah and he was the last of the prophets at that time in that area. Jezabel had killed all the prophets in that area and installed 450 Baal priests and 400 grove priests. Find time to read 1Kings 19, the whole chapter for a better insight into what is being said here in Romans 11.
Rom.11:4] But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
Quoting from 1Kings 19:18. We know that Elijah will be one of the two Sons of Oil, or one of the two witnesses. He will have the seven thousand of God’s Elect when he returns just before the sixth trump. We (God’s Elect) have never bowed a knee to Baal. Not in the first earth age, and we won’t at the sixth trump. Do not fear, for the LORD is with us. Let’s go to Mark 13 and verse 11 reads.
Mark 13:11] But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Spirit will speak through us when we are delivered up to the antichrist. To not let the Holy Spirit speak through you is the unpardonable sin. Only God’s Elect can commit this sin. Back to Romans 11 and verse 5 reads.
Rom.11:5] Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
Bringing up the dispensation of grace, and the remnant that would give their testimonies for the time of Jesus Christ. Let’s look at the word testimony G3140 a direct derivative of G3144 martus pronounced mar’-toos. We get our word Martyr from this word. It means; 1. those who after his example have proved the strength and genuineness of their faith in Christ by undergoing a violent death.
We can see with verse 5 these Remnant were also chosen in the first earth age for their destinies for the witnessing of Jesus Christ.
Rom.11:6] And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
[7] What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded
The Elect were justified in the first earth age. But the rest were blinded, so that the purpose of God would be done. To show you that there are two elections, the first by the dispensation of Grace, the second by those who obtained it for the dispensation of Wrath which is the end times. Let’s go to 2Thessalonians 2 and verse 3 reads.
2Thess.2:3] Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
Speaking of the great falling away, the Apostasy.
2Thess.2:4] Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
This is the sixth trump. Satan and his angels have been kicked out of heaven by Michael and his angels.
2Thess.2:5] Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
[6] And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
[7] For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
The one who letteth is Michael. You find this in Revelations 12:7-9.
2Thess.2:8] And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
[9] Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
[10] And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
They did not receive the Word of God. Showing us here that they heard the Word but chose not to believe.
2Thess.2:11] And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
[12] That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
This is the reason that God blinded them.
2Thess.2:13] But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
[14] Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
These are God’s Elect that through his Word believed and the LORD opened their eyes.
2Thess.2:15] Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
Put the gospel armor on and STAND and not fly away.
2Thess.2:16] Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
[17] Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
When they deliver up God’s Elect, the Holy Spirit will speak through them, and they have accomplished their destinies. Back to Romans 11 and verse 8 reads.
Rom.11:8] (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.
And I will say that until this day also. But to those that love God and read his word their eyes will be opened. Written in Deuteronomy 29 and verse 4 reads.
Deu.29:4] Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.
It was because of unbelief in the wilderness that the LORD did this. So will it be at the end times. 1Corinthians 10 and verse 11 reads.
1Cor.10:11] Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
Never forget that verse. Let’s go to Isaiah 29 and verse 10 reads.
Isa.29:10] For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.
This is speaking of the false teachers in the house of God.
Isa.29:11] And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
How many from the pulpits claim that Revelation is sealed? Don’t they understand that Revelation means; To open, or unseal.
Isa.29:12] And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.
Let this help you understand, they are unlearned because of false teachers behind the pulpits.
Isa.29:13] Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
Do not overlook by the precept of men. God’s Word is made void by the traditions of men. Think of the false teachers within the churches of today. Jesus would quote this in Matthew 15 and verse 7 reads.
Mat.15:7] Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
[8] This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
[9] But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Showing us here that this is being dispensational also, for the first was with Jesus in the flesh, and the second being for the end times, just before Jesus returns. This is the Spirit of prophecy. Back to Romans 11 and verse 9 reads.
Rom.11:9] And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling block, and a recompence unto them:
What is the stumbling block? Jesus is their stumbling block, for they did not read his word and they worshipped the antichrist instead of the true Christ. It is written that Satan comes first and claims to be Jesus but does lie, and because they wouldn’t read, they are deceived. Let’s go to Psalms 69, we will see Jesus’s crucifixion in the Old Testament, and verse 21 reads.
Psa.69:21] They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
This came to pass in Matthew 27:24.
Psa.69:22] Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.
Our communion is a trap for those who partake of it, yet do not believe.
Psa.69:23] Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake.
[24] Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.
[25] Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.
[26] For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.
How is it that Jesus becomes a stumbling block? Because the eyes of those that crucified him were closed by God, the same will happen in the end times. So that the Word of God will come to pass exactly as it is written. Do not forget what it said in 2Thessalonians 2 and verse 11 reads.
2Thess.2:11] And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
[12] That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Back to Romans 11 and verse 10 reads.
Rom.11:10] Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.
[11] I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.
To provoke the Hebrews, the twelve tribes of Israel, to jealousy. Let’s go to Isaiah 42 and verse 6 reads.
Isa.42:6] I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
[7] To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
Paul would tell the Jewish people of Rome this in Acts 28 and verse 28 reads.
Acts 28:28] Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
Understand that it is written in Revelations 19 and verse 10 reads.
Rev.19:10] And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
The testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy. Back to Romans 11 and verse 12 reads.
Rom.11:12] Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?
[13] For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
Paul is bringing up Acts 9:15, his threefold ministry. To the kings, to Israel, and to the gentiles. But this is a warning for the Gentiles, he continues.
Rom.11:14] If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.
Let’s go to 1Corinthians 9 and verse 20 reads.
1Cor.9:20] And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
[21] To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
[22] To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
As servants of God, we must teach all that will listen. Back to Romans 11 and verse 15 reads.
Rom.11:15] For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?
[16] For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
Speaking of the blessing of Abraham for the world. Through his seed would come Jesus Christ. This explains how the Hebrew and the Gentiles can both be saved.
Rom.11:17] And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
[18] Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
This might seem hard to understand, but let it flow. To graft a branch onto a well-established tree, let the roots of that tree give life unto the grafted branches. Christ is the vine and we are the branches. And if the branches bring forth no fruit, then cut them off and cast them into the fire.
Rom.11:19] Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
[20] Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
Satan was full of pride also, let’s go to 1Corinthians 10 and verse 12 reads.
1Cor.10:12] Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
Back to Romans 11 and verse 21 reads.
Rom.11:21] For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
To the Gentiles that get high minded, think that you won’t be cut off. They (Israelites) were cut off for unbelief, but because of your faith that lacks works, you might be cut off also.
Rom.11:22] Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
Faith by hearing. Severity is discipline. Let’s go to 1Corinthians 15 and verse 1 reads.
1Cor.15:1] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
[2] By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
[3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
[4] And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
The only way to bring the Jews, Hebrews, into Christianity is by scripture. Let not the Gentile be faithful without works. Back to Romans 11 and verse 23 reads.
Rom.11:23] And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.
Let’s go to 2Corinthians 3 and verse 14 reads.
2Cor.3:14] But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
[15] But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
When Moses is read, meaning the law.
2Cor.3:16] Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
[17] Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
[18] But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
The first thing Jesus did after being crucified was to tear the vail in two. Now, all can come to the LORD without a priest coming between you and the LORD. Back to Romans 11 and verse 24 reads.
Rom.11:24] For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?
[25] For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
Easier to understand now, they were blinded until the gentiles could be grafted in, now they can be regrafted through faith and belief again. Their eyes can be reopened and the scriptures fulfilled now that Christ has paid the price for all. But what of this mystery? Let’s go to Luke 21 and verse 20 reads.
Luke 21:20] And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.
Know that the sixth trump is close.
Luke 21:21] Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.
We don’t want to be in Jerusalem because the antichrist is there. Flee to the nations around Jerusalem.
Luke 21:22] For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
These are the days of Vengeance, the dispensation of Wrath. God’s Word will come to pass exactly as it is written.
Luke 21:23] But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.
Caught worshipping the antichrist thinking he is the real Christ. The rapture theory leads them right into Satan’s lap.
Luke 21:24] And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
Because they wouldn’t read God’s Word, by the Sword they are led into captivity. This puts us in the middle of two dispensations, between the dispensation of Grace and the dispensation of Wrath. Which dispensation is this then? The millennium. Back to Romans 11 and verse 26 reads.
Rom.11:26] And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
Remember this is how to bring the Jews back to the LORD. Let’s go to Psalms 14 and verse 7 reads.
Psa.14:7] Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
Jesus G2424 Iēsous pronounced ee-ay-sooce’ and means; Yahoveh’s Savior. 1. Jesus, the Son of God, the Saviour of mankind, God incarnate. Now let’s go to Isaiah 59 and verse 20 reads.
Isa.59:20] And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD.
Can you see why we lead the Hebrews back to scripture in the Old Testament? Jesus is everywhere in the Old.
Isa.59:21] As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.
Back to Romans 11 and verse 27 reads.
Rom.11:27] For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
See how the Old Testament and the New Testament line up perfectly. This is what the Hebrews need to know. Speaking of the whole house of Jacob.
Rom.11:28] As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.
Let’s go to Ephesians 1 and verse 4 reads.
Eph.1:4] According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
This word foundation is G2598 Kataballō and means; The overthrow of Satan in the first earth age.
Eph.1:5] Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
Predestinated is for the Elect. Sanctified and judged in the first earth age so that in this earth age we are chosen to do his will. Let’s go to Deuteronomy 7 and verse 8 reads.
Deu.7:8] But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
Remember 1Corinthians 10 and verse 11 reads.
1Cor.10:11] Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
We see here that the LORD will bring them back from captivity from the antichrist after the millennium. Back to Romans 11 and verse 29 reads.
Rom.11:29] For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
God gives gifts to his children and does not repent, because he knows who can cut it. Don’t overlook those that are called. You will know if you are one of God’s Elect if you know that the antichrist comes first.
Rom.11:30] For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
Mercy is his Love. Let’s go to Ephesians 2 and verse 1 reads.
Eph.2:1] And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Quicken means; to make alive. Speaking of your souls.
Eph.2:2] Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
[3] Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
[4] But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
[5] Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
[6] And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
[7] That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
Speaking to his Elect from the first earth age. Ages is plural, speaking of this earth age, and the one to come.
Eph.2:8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
How he loves us. Back to Romans 11 and verse 31 reads.
Rom.11:31] Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
Mercy is unmerited favor.
Rom.11:32] For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
Let’s go to Galatians 3 and verse 22 reads.
Gal.3:22] But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
[23] But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
[24] Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
The law brings us to Jesus Christ, that we are justified through Jesus Christ through faith. Faith brings us out from under law through repentance. Back to Romans 11 and verse 33 reads.
Rom.11:33] O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
Let’s go to Psalms 92 and verse 4 reads.
Psa.92:4] For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.
[5] O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.
Back to Romans 11 and verse 34 reads.
Rom.11:34] For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counseller?
Who can read God’s mind? Nobody. Let’s go to Proverbs 1 and verse 6 reads.
Prov.1:6] To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
[7] The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Let’s go to 1Corinthians 2 and verse 15 reads.
1Cor.2:15] But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
[16] For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
We have the mind of Christ if we are in God’s Word. Back to Romans 11 and verse 35 reads.
Rom.11:35] Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
Let’s go to Job 41 and verse 11 reads.
Job 41:11] Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.
Don’t forget Ezekiel 18 and verse 4 reads.
Eze.18:4] Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Back to Romans 11 and verse 36 reads.
Rom.11:36] For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
The Lord gives his love to all that will receive him, but to those that don’t receive his love, the branches are cut off and thrown into the fire. Let’s go to Colossians 1 and verse 16 reads.
Col.1:16] For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
[17] And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Now let’s go to Revelation 4 and verse 11 reads.
Rev.4:11] Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
