In today’s study our titles are; Verses 1-5 Zeal but no righteousness. Verses 6-12 Righteousness is by faith in Christ. Verses 13-21 The importance of witnessing. Romans 10 and verse 1 reads.

Rom.10:1] Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

We know that the house of Israel and the house of Judah are split, meaning this is written to both houses, the house of Jacob which is Israel. Let’s go to Matthew 9 and verse 36 reads.

Mat.9:36] But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
[37] Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
[38] Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

The harvest is for the end times. Back to Romans 10 and verse 2 reads.

Rom.10:2] For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

Paul said he is witness that they have a zeal for God, though not through knowledge. Let’s go to Proverbs 1 and verse 7 reads.

Pro.1:7] The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Fear is Reverence or Love. Let’s go to Acts 21 and verse 18 reads.

Acts 21:18] And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.
[19] And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.
[20] And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law:

Paul was more Zealous than all, so much he persecuted the church from the beginning. He just missed Isaiah 7:14; A virgin shall conceive, and a child shall be born, and you will call his name Emmanuel, God with us. Back to Romans 10 and verse 3 reads.

Rom.10:3] For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Let’s go to Deuteronomy 6 and verse 24 reads.

Deu.6:24] And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.
[25] And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.

Righteousness comes from the LORD and is of the LORD. Let’s go back to Romans 1 and verse 16 reads.

Rom.1:16] For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
[17] For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Written in Habakkuk 2 and verse 3 reads.

Hab.2:3] For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
[4] Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

This shows us that it is written for the end times. Always remember 1Corinthians 10 and verse 11 reads.

1Cor.10:11] Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Back to Romans 10 and verse 4 reads.

Rom.10:4] For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Through Christ we overcome with repentance. Let’s go to Matthew 5 and verse 17 reads.

Mat.5:17] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
[18] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Now, for those who say we are not under law, Jesus continues, and verse 19 reads.

Mat.5:19] Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

We must Do and Teach them (God’s Commandments) to be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Mat.5:20] For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Exceed the righteousness of the Kenites who crucified our Lord Jesus Christ. Because Christ came to fulfill the law and the prophets. Christ fulfilled the law by his blood on the cross that all who repent shall have forgiveness of their sins through Faith. Back to Romans and verse 5 reads.

Rom.10:5] For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

Written in Leviticus 18 and verse 5 reads.

Lev.18:5] Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.

Keep his commandments, do them and teach others to do them. Back to Romans 10 and verse 6 reads.

Rom.10:6] But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)

God gave us his Word to teach us and the Gentiles the law and the prophets, and now through Jesus we have Faith that saves us and not the blood ordinance. For Christ’s blood on the cross was for once and all time, the end of the blood ordinances.

Rom.10:7] Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

This is written in Deuteronomy 30 and verse 11 reads.

Deu.30:11] For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.

It is just around the corner, and the LORD has opened the eyes of his Elect.

Deu.30:12] It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?

It was Jesus Christ, the Messiah, that would do it. Only he is the Lamb of God. But what is this about the deep? Remember what Legion said to Jesus in Luke 8 and verse 31 reads.

Luke 8:31] And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.

This is to the other side of the gulf. Where judgement has been given to those who did not overcome. Called prison in 1Peter 3 and verse 18 reads.

1Pet.3:18] For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
[19] By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

Back to Romans 10 and verse 8 reads.

Rom.10:8] But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
[9] That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

This is baptism. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. That he died and was raised again on the third day. Let’s go to Philippians 2 and verse 9 reads.

Phil.2:9] Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
[10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
[11] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Back to Romans 10 and verse 10 reads.

Rom.10:10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

It is repentance that gives us salvation.

Rom.10:11] For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Let’s go to Isaiah 28 and verse 15 reads.

Isa.28:15] Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
[16] Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

Haste is ashamed. Unlike those who worship the antichrist in ignorance at the sixth trump. they will pray for mountains to fall on them. Back to Romans 10 and verse 12 reads.

Rom.10:12] For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
[13] For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

All those that confess that Jesus Christ is the Son of God shall be saved. Let’s go to John 3 and verse 15 reads.

John 3:15] That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
[16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
[17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
[18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
[19] And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
[20] For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
[21] But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Our deeds (sins) are made known, and God, who forgives us, blots them out. Back to Romans 10 and verse 14 reads.

Rom.10:14] How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
[15] And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

A great privilege to serve the Lord, and to feed his sheep. Let’s go to Isaiah 52 and verse 7 reads.

Isa.52:7] How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!
[8] Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion.

Let’s go to Nahum 1 and verse 15 reads.

Neh.1:15] Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.

Back to Romans 10 and verse 16 reads.

Rom.10:16] But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

Let’s go to Isaiah 51 and verse 1 reads.

Isa.53:1] Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
[2] For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

Jesus was made the most beautiful of all.

Isa.53:3] He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
[4] Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
[5] But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

It is amazing to know that Christ was not only prophesied in the Old Testament, but his crucifixion also was foretold long ago. Back to Romans 10 and verse 17 reads.

Rom.10:17] So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

By teaching them the whole Word of God. Let’s go to Acts 15, Peter is teaching, and verse 7 reads.

Acts 15:7] And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
[8] And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;
[9] And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
[10] Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
[11] But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

By the grace of Jesus Christ all are Saved. Back to Romans 10 and verse 18 reads.

Rom.10:18] But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

His Word is sent throughout the world, even unto this day. Let’s go to Matthew 24 and verse 14 reads.

Mat.24:14] And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Back to Romans 10 and verse 19 reads.

Rom.10:19] But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.

He is speaking of Jeshurun in the song of Moses, Where Israel is short, fat and happy, they forget God when they are blessed. Let’s go to Deuteronomy 32 and verse 15 reads.

Deu.32:15] But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.
[16] They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger.
[17] They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.
[18] Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.
[19] And when the LORD saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters.
[20] And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith.
[21] They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
[22] For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.
[23] I will heap mischiefs upon them; I will spend mine arrows upon them.
[24] They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.

This will happen at the sixth trump when Satan comes claiming to be Christ, but is the antichrist. False teachers have deceived them, and God shall give them strong delusions to believe a lie. Because they refused his Word and trusted in man. Back to Romans 10 and verse 20 reads.

Rom.10:20] But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

Let’s go to Isaiah 65 and verse 1 reads.

Isa.65:1] I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name.
[2] I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;
[3] A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;
[4] Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine’s flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;
[5] Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.

We see what God thinks about swine. But finding where it is written is very important, because it gives us more information. Back to Romans 10 and verse 21 reads.

Rom.10:21] But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

Israel, Jacob, has always been a rebellious nation. We can’t seem to get it right. I say Come back to him, read his Word with understanding. Let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
