Getting back to Chapter 27, we begin at 46 and it reads.
Matthew 27 part 2
Mat.27:46] And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Psa.22. as we read in the last study. Even on the cross, Christ was always teaching.
Mat.27:47] Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.
They thought he was calling for Elijah.
Mat.27:48] And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
[49] The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
This vinegar is poor man’s wine. Christ would not drink of the vine again.
Mat.27:50] Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
Jesus died on the cross at about 3pm. This would be the time that the high priest would go into the holy of holies. The only time and day of the year for the sacrifice.
Mat.27:51] And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
The first thing Jesus did after passing was to rent the veil of the temple. Now the veil of the temple was about 60 feet tall, and about 2 inches thick. And I would have given anything to see the look on Caiaphas’s face. He also rent the rocks of the alter. Christ is our Passover Lamb, and we don’t need a priest to come to the Lord. That means you can go to the Father anytime you want without a priest, or a sacrifice.
Mat.27:52] And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
[53] And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
This was a onetime deal to show that Christ had defeated death. Let’s go to Hebrews and read 2:14.
Heb.2:14] Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Also let’s go to Hosea and read 6:6.
Hos.6:6] For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
So the Father never wanted burnt offerings but our love. Back to Matthew and it reads.
Mat.27:54] Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
Even the Gentiles saw and were converted. But the high priest could not. Amazing to me.
Mat.27:55] And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
[56] Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s children.
Funny how the men scattered, but the women stayed.
Mat.27:57] When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:
This man, Joseph of Arimathea, was Jesus’s great uncle. He was Mother Mary’s uncle, meaning he was a Levite. And also, a Pharisee, and a rich man. He owned tin mines in Great Britain of today. Check out the book “Traditions of Glastonbury” by E. Raymond Capp. And learn more about him.
Mat.27:58] He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
Meaning he was kinsman redeemer, and only he could have asked for the body of Christ.
Mat.27:59] And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
[60] And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
He was buried in a rich man’s tomb. Let’s read Isaiah 53.9.
Isa.53:9] And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
Notice he also was crucified between the two malefactors. Back to Matthew and it reads.
Mat.27:61] And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.
[62] Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
[63] Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
[64] Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
This is still believed to this day by them that claim to be Jews and are not, but of the synagogue of Satan. Rev.2:9 and Rev.3:9.
Mat.27:65] Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
[66] So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
They will watch and will not stop the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word, and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
