In today’s study we come to the crucifixion, it is very important to remember we teach Christ crucified. We left off with Jesus being taken from Gethsemane with the high priest and all his council having tried him at night. And after the unlawful trial they found him to be guilty of death. Here is the problem, they don’t have the power to put anyone to death, they are under Roman rule. Verses 1-2 are titled The chief priest takes Jesus to Pilate. Matthew 27 and verse 1 reads.
Mat.27:1] When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
This word morning comes from G4253 pro pronounced the same and means; “fore” or before. So, what we have here is just after midnight. I bring this up so that we understand the timing, it is unlawful for the Hebrews to hold court at night. We must remember that they found him guilty of death on false witnesses. Let’s go to Psalms 2 and verse 1 reads.
Psa.2:1] Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
[2] The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
[3] Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
[4] He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
Notice also his anointed are included. That would be his Elect of the end times. Pay attention, we will have many examples for us in these end times. 1Cor.10:11 reads.
1Cor.10:11] Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
Back to Mat.27 and verse 2 reads.
Mat.27:2] And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
Let’s go to Acts 3 and verse 13 reads.
Acts 3:13] The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.
Peter was speaking to the Kenites and would go on to say that they were the guilty ones. Now, don’t judge Judas, but let’s read it carefully. Mat.27 and verse 3 reads.
Mat.27:3] Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
Judas was fulfilling prophecy and we’ll go there in a minute, but don’t overlook that he repented. Repentance equals salvation, or my teachings of God’s Word is in vain.
Mat.27:4] Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
They knew what he said was true, proving they were Kenites. Let’s go to Luke 11 and verse 50 reads.
Luke 11:50] That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;
[51] From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
We can add on the blood of John the Baptist and Jesus, the heir to the vineyard to this list. The word generation here is offspring, making them the Kenites or offspring of Cain the first murderer. Back to Mat.27 and verse 5 reads.
Mat.27:5] And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
He threw the pieces of silver on the marble floor and I can hear that ring. Now, this just said he hanged himself, I don’t think it means that literally. He had a lot of help, let’s go to Acts 1 and verse 16 reads.
Acts 1:16] Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.
Let’s see where this is in Psalms, let’s go to Psa.41 and verse 9 reads.
Psa.41:9] Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
Back to Acts 1 and verse 17 reads.
Acts 1:17] For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.
[18] Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
In Mat.26 we went to Zechariah 11 and verse 12 reads.
Zec.11:12] And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.
This prophecy was fulfilled with Judas.
Zec.11:13] And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.
The second being fulfilled by those Kenites in the house of the LORD. Back to Acts 1 and verse 19 reads.
Acts 1:19] And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.
[20] For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.
Written in Psalms 69 and verse 25 reads.
Psa.69:25] Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.
[26] For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.
[27] Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness.
[28] Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.
Written for the Kenites, they will not have salvation. But Judas does, he repented and it is written in Psa.109 and verse 8 reads.
Psa.109:8] Let his days be few; and let another take his office..
Now we went through all this for you to understand we do not judge another, that is for the LORD only. Back to Mat.27 and verse 6 reads.
Mat.27:6] And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.
Showing himself to be a Kenite, he also fulfills prophecy.
Mat.27:7] And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.
[8] Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.
[9] Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
[10] And gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.
Fulfilling the prophecy spoken by Jeremiah, not written in Jeremiah. We just read it in Zechariah 11:12-13. Now we go back to Jesus’s trial.
Mat.27:11] And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.
Jesus said I didn’t say it, you said it. We know that Jesus is king of all of Israel, not only Judah.
Mat.27:12] And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
Fulfilling Isa.53:7 and it reads.
Isa.53:7] He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
I keep bringing up prophecies because of 1Cor.10:11. They are for our examples in the end times. And also, because of Rev.19:10 “The testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy”. Back to Mat.27 and verse 13 reads.
Mat.27:13] Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?
[14] And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.
Pilate knew they were lying and that they did this out of jealousy. Before we go on, let’s get the whole of the prophecies in Isaiah 53 picking it up with verse 7 again it reads.
Isa.53:7] He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
[8] He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
[9] And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
Here we have Jesus being between two malefactors on the cross and also being buried in Joseph’s tomb.
Isa.53:10] Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
Here we have the first prophecy from Gen.3:15, they would bruise his heels on the cross, coming to fulfillment. And also, Salvation coming into the world.
Isa.53:11] He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
[12] Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
The reason for Christ being crucified, for whosoever believes. Now we come to Barabbas, listen closely, Mat.27 and verse 15 reads.
Mat.27:15] Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.
We see here we are at the Passover, not easter. 1Cor.5 and verse 7 reads.
1Cor.5:7] Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
Christ became our Passover, leaven is said for sin, repent and know that Jesus is the Son of God and be saved. Back to Mat.27 and verse 16 reads.
Mat.27:16] And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
Barabbas is said by the historian Josephus to have killed over 200 people. Now, Barabbas means; son of his father. We have Jesus, Son of God and Barabbas a Kenite, son of his father, the devil. Who will they choose?
Mat.27:17] Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
Called Christ, Messiah by the people. Pilate knew that many called him Christ, though he didn’t believe in any religion because he thought that to be superstition.
Mat.27:18] For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
[19] When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
The LORD works in mysterious ways, no doubt that an angel had come unto her in a dream.
Mat.27:20] But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
Remember we are past midnight, and we know what kind of people would be out at that time of night. These are Kenites, like we would see in our streets today.
Mat.27:21] The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
[22] Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
[23] And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
They could not give an answer to Pilate for why or for a reason.
Mat.27:24] When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
This multitude can be easily seen today in our streets, being Kenites these would have burned the city down to the ground. So, Pilate trying to keep the piece allows them to crucify Christ. But notice he washes his hands of the evil, Jesus would console him later by telling him it is their sin.
Mat.27:25] Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
From the blood of righteous Abel to Zacharias between the porch and the altar. Now, add the Son of God, the heir. Their blood and now the blood of the Savior can be on their children, offspring of vipers, of that serpent’s seed. This is how I can call them Kenites. Peter would have this conversation with those in Jerusalem at the time they were teaching Jesus Christ to the peoples of Jerusalem. Acts 5 and verse 28 reads.
Acts 5:28] Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.
Did they not say let his blood be on us and our children.
Acts 5:29] Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
[30] The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
[31] Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
Told them straight to their faces with boldness who they were. Back to Mat.27 and verse 26 reads.
Mat.27:26] Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
[27] Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
[28] And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
[29] And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
This is also prophesied in Isaiah 53, verse 3 reads.
Isa.53:3] He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
[4] Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
[5] But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
And in Psalms 69 verse 19 reads.
Psa.69:19] Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee.
Back to Mat.27 and verse 30 reads.
Mat.27:30] And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
Prophesied in Micah 5 and verse 1 reads.
Mic.5:1] Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
Back to Mat.27 and verse 31 reads.
Mat.27:31] And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
They now bring the Lamb of God for the slaughter, Isa.53:7.
Mat.27:32] And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.
This man’s name is Simon, Greek for; a hearing. Do you have ears to hear? Because the people came from all over the world for the Passover, this man is obviously a Hebrew.
Mat.27:33] And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
Because it looks like a skull. It is also called Moriah, the place where Abraham and Isaac brought their sacrifice to the LORD. Let’s go to Genesis 22 and verse 11 reads.
Gen.22:11] And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
[12] And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
[13] And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
The promise given to us that God would offer his only Son, that he would be the Lamb to be sacrificed for all. Back to Mat.27 and verse 34 reads.
Mat.27:34] They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
Also prophesied in Psalms 69 and verse 21 reads.
Psa.69:21] They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
[22] Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.
This vinegar is a poor man’s wine. It becomes a trap, a stumbling block. Back to Mat.27 and verse 35 reads.
Mat.27:35] And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
Prophesied in Psalms 22 and verse 18 reads.
Psa.22:18] They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
We will be going back to Psalms 22 in a minute. Back to Mat.27 and verse 36 reads.
Mat.27:36] And sitting down they watched him there;
[37] And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Written in Greek, Hebrew and Latin. They had argued with Pilate about this, saying that he said he was king, not that he was king. You see, they had lied about him being king, so that Pilate would have to crucify him because there cannot be any king but Caesar.
Mat.27:38] Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
As prophesied in Isa.53:9 and 12 above.
Mat.27:39] And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,
This is also prophesied in Psalms 22:7 but we will get there in a minute.
Mat.27:40] And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
IF thou be the Son of God, they knew he was, and it was the heir to the kingdom that they intended to kill. Don’t overlook who said they could destroy the temple, let’s go to John 2 and verse 19 reads.
John 2:19] Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
If you destroy it, then he would raise it up in three days. He was speaking of himself and not the temple, but this was what they lied about at his trial. Back to Mat.27 and verse 41 reads.
Mat.27:41] Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,
[42] He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
A lot is said and admitted here. First, they admit he saved others. The reason Pilate knew they were jealous of him. And second, they finally said it right, that he was King of Israel and not just Judah. Being Kenites, they knew this.
Mat.27:43] He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
Here the chief priest fulfills prophecy himself, Psa.22 and verse 8 reads.
Psa.22:8] He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
Back to Mat.27 and verse 44 reads.
Mat.27:44] The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.
Both thieves that were hanging on their crosses next to him cast their doubts at him too, but this will change in a minute.
Mat.27:45] Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
From noon until 3pm. Let’s go to Amos 8 and verse 9 reads.
Amos 8:9] And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:
The Old Testament and the New Testament, how can anyone understand the Word of God without both? Back to Mat.27 and verse 46 reads.
Mat.27:46] And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Too many pastors teach that Jesus had a weak moment, that cannot be further from the truth. Jesus, even hanging on the cross, is a great teacher. He is quoting Psalms 22 verse 1. Telling them and us to go back and read his Word, and we are. Let’s go to Psalms 22 and verse 1 reads.
Psa.22:1] My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
This prophecy was written by King David a thousand years before Christ was crucified. It is the Psalms of crucifixion. Jesus quoted this verse in Mat.27:46.
Psa.22:2] O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.
[3] But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
[4] Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
[5] They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.
Let’s go to Isaiah 49 and verse 23 reads.
Isa.49:23] And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.
Back to Psalms 22 and verse 6 reads.
Psa.22:6] But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
Remember Isa.53 and verse 3 reads.
Isa.53:3] He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquaintMatthew 27 is an emotional chapter for me. I’ll do my best to keep myself from showing it. So, let’s get started, Matthew 27 and verse 1 reads.
Mat.27:1] When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
[2] And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
This would be about midnight, or shortly after. Very important to understand who they are, they are Kenites. The Serpents seed, sons of Cain.
Mat.27:3] Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
Do not overlook that he repented. Many people judged Judas, and condemn him to hell. Be very careful not to judge anybody, that is Gods job, and he doesn’t need any help. But that he hung himself, he had a lot of help. Let’s go to Acts 1;17-19 and read.
Acts1:17] For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.
[18] Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
[19] And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.
It is said by Josephas (the historian) that he was cut from his Adams apple down below his naval and his bowels fell out. So, he had a lot of help. There was no way the Kenites could afford him to hang around. So, they killed him. Back to Matthew and it reads.
Mat.27:4] Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
[5] And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
[6] And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.
They knew, and fulfilled prophesy, buying the field.
Mat.27:7] And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.
This potters field is where they would throw away broken pottery. It is to be where they can bury the poor. And like a broken vessel, Christ can put the broken person back together again.
Mat.27:8] Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.
[9] Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
[10] And gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.
Not that he wrote it, but that he spoke it. And we find it in Zechariah 11:12-13 and it reads.
Zec.11:12] And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.
[13] And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.
Notice that it was cast to the potter in the house of the LORD. Judas fulfilled prophesy in so many ways, and that he repented tells me he did the Lords will. If I didn’t believe Judas was forgiven of his sins, then how can God ever forgive mine. Back to Matthew and it reads.
Mat.27:11] And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.
[12] And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
[13] Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?
[14] And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.
First, Jesus was King of Israel, not Judah only. Second let’s go to Isaiah and read many of these prophesies. Isa.53 and read.
Isa.53:4] Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
[5] But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
[6] All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
[7] He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
[10] Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
[11] He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
[12] Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
We can come back to these scriptures as the crucifixion goes on. Back to Mat.27 and it reads.
Mat.27:15] Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.
[16] And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
Barabbas was accused of killing more than 200 people. His name means “son of my father”. So, we have Jesus who is the Son of God, and we have Barabbas, son of his father. What we have is a Kenite and the Christ. Who will they choose?
Mat.27:17] Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
[18] For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
Jesus could heal the sick, they could not.
Mat.27:19] When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
Certainly, the Lord had caused her to dream, and guided her to explain it to husband.
Mat.27:20] But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
[21] The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
[22] Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
Imagine a crowd at night with violence in their hearts. Its easy, we have seen them in our streets, burning down cities. These are Kenites.
Mat.27:23] And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
[24] When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
In another gospel they told Pilate he claimed to be king, and this is what forced Pilate to have them crucify Jesus. For Pilate could not have anyone claiming to be king or Ceasar would have Pilates head, though Pilate knew it was a lie.
Mat.27:25] Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
Remember when Jesus would tell them that their fathers killed all the prophets from righteous Able to Zecharias between the porch and the alter. And now they would kill the Heir to the vineyard.
[30] And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
[31] And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
[32] And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.
His name was Simon, “hearing”, let your eyes and ears be opened. It was the time of Passover, and the Hebrews came from all over the world to worship at Jerusalem in those days. This man was definitely an Hebrew.
Mat.27:33] And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
[34] They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
This prophesy we find in Psalms. And Psa.69:21 reads.
Psa.69:21] They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
[22] Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.
[23] Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake.
[24] Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.
Hate to be in their shoes. Back to Matthew.
Mat.27:35] And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
This and many more prophesies coming up will be in Psalms 22 which we will cover after the crucifixion.
Mat.27:36] And sitting down they watched him there;
[37] And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
[38] Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
Isaiah 53:9
[39] And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,
[40] And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
[41] Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,
[42] He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
[43] He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
[44] The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.
[45] Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
That would be from noon until 3pm.
Mat.27:46] And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Jesus didn’t have a weak moment, as some would teach, but was quoting Psalms 22:1 Jesus was telling us to go to Psalms and read this prophesy and we will. So, let’s go to Psalms 22 and remember it is a psalm of David that was written 1,000 years before Jesus was crucified. And it reads.
Psa.22:1] My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
[2] O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.
[3] But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
[4] Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
[5] They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.
[6] But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
[7] All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head saying,
[8] He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
Matthew 27:41-43.
Psa.22:9] But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother’s breasts.
[10] I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly.
[11] Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.
[12] Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
[13] They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
[14] I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
My bones are pulled from socket as I hang on this cross.
[15] My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
[16] For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
Pierced hands and feet, nailed to the cross.
[17] I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
[18] They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
They gambled for my clothes.
[19] But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.
[20] Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.
[21] Save me from the lion’s mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.
[22] I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.
[23] Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.
[24] For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.
The LORD heard.
[25] My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.
[26] The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.
[27] All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.
[28] For the kingdom is the LORD’s: and he is the governor among the nations.
[29] All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.
[30] A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.
[31] They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.
“That he hath done this” is equivalent to “it is finished”. This prophesy by king David was prophesied 1,000 years before it happened. Think of that, and we’ll finish this later. For now, let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
KJV along with The New Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance Of The Bibleed with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Back to Psalms 22 and verse 7 reads.
Psa.22:7] All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head saying,
From Mat.27 and verse 39 read.
Mat.27:39] And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,
Back to Psa.22 and verse 8 reads.
Psa.22:8] He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
The high priest himself quoted this unknowingly. Mat.27:41-43.
Psa.22:9] But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother’s breasts.
[10] I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly.
Let’s go back to Isaiah, Isa.46 and verse 3 reads.
Isa.46:3] Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb:
And in Isa.49 and verse 1 reads.
Isa.49:1] Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.
Back to Psalms 22 and verse 11 reads.
Psa.22:11] Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.
[12] Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
[13] They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
The Kenites surround me, they shouted crucify him!
Psa.22:14] I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
My arms are pulled out of socket as I hang on this cross. Let’s go to Isa.53 and verse 5 reads.
Isa.53:5] But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Back to Psa.22 and verse 15 reads.
Psa.22:15] My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
[16] For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
This is the amazing part to me that they pierced my hands and my feet. They did not crucify people a thousand years before they crucified Jesus. And that they would use nails in his hands and feet could only be true prophecy.
Psa.22:17] I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
[18] They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
Let’s back up to Mat.27 and verse 35 read.
Mat.27:35] And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
We just read that King David was also a prophet here, many never knew because they were never taught the truth. Remember, this was written a thousand years before it ever happened. Back to Psa.22 and verse 19 reads.
Psa.22:19] But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.
[20] Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.
This word Darling should have also been translated Soul.
Psa.22:21] Save me from the lion’s mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.
No such thing as unicorns, a bad translation of course. It was translated above in Psa.22:12 correctly, strong bulls of Bashan. H7214.
Psa.22:22] I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.
Do not overlook “He heard”. Jesus, though hanging on the cross, was still teaching and you better believe the Father heard.
Psa.22:25] My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.
[26] The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.
[27] All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.
Did you catch that! This part of the prophecy from King David was not for the crucifixion, but rather for the end times. All knees will bow to the LORD at the seventh trump, the second advent.
Psa.28] For the kingdom is the LORD’s: and he is the governor among the nations.
We can see here that this part of the prophecy is spoken for the end times as well. The Elect are that generation, offspring. Notice the end of this prophecy says That he hath done this, it is equivalent to John 19:30 it is finished. This is why I believe Jesus taught the whole Psalms 22 before giving up the Spirit and passing on the cross. Now, back to Matthew 27 and verse 47 reads.
Mat.27:47] Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.
They thought he had called for Elijah. When he said Eli, Eli. But he was saying the first verse of Psalms 22.
Mat.27:48] And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
Another prophecy being fulfilled. Let’s go to Psalms 69 and verse 21 reads.
Psa.69:21] They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
[22] Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.
His body was meant for their welfare (salvation) but became a trap (a stumbling block). Back to Mat.27 and verse 49 reads.
Mat.27:49] The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
[50] Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
It is 3pm. The time of the evening oblation. It is at this time, once a year on the Passover, that the high priest went into the Holy of Holies to present the sacrifice for the people.
Mat.27:51] And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
Wouldn’t you like to see the look on the face of Caiaphas, I know he looked up and saw the two hands of God grab the veil and rent it in two, from top (heaven) to bottom (earth). This veil, curtain, was 60 feet tall and two inches thick. This was the first thing Jesus did after his crucifixion. He took away everyone from between you and God. No more will there be any sacrifices or priests needed for the people, we can come right in and speak directly to the LORD.
Let’s go to Hebrews 10 and verse 20 reads.
Heb.10:20] By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
[21] And having an high priest over the house of God;
Christ became the High Priest, he is KING of Kings and LORD of Lords. Back to Mat.27 and verse 52 reads.
Mat.27:52] And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
This was a one time event, to show the people Jesus Christ conquered death. Heb.2:14.
Mat.27:53] And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
[54] Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
Even the Roman soldiers became believers. Notice they said Truly this is the Son of God. That is the declaration needed for Baptism.
Mat.27:55] And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
The men scattered like sheep, but the women never left him.
Mat.27:56] Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s children.
All three women were named Mary. The mother of James and Joses is Mary, mother of Jesus. The children of Zebedee’s are John and James the fishermen.
Mat.27:57] When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:
Don’t overlook that Joseph, Jesus’s uncle, was also a disciple of Jesus. This was prophesied in Isa.53:9 that Jesus would be buried in a rich man’s tomb.
Mat.27:58] He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
This would be the Kinsman Redeemer of Jesus Christ (Ruth 3:8-18). An example that Christ redeems us through his self-sacrifice for our sins.
Mat.27:59] And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
[60] And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
Isa.53 and verse 9 reads.
Isa.53:9] And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
We went there for a unique reason. It is said that only the noble and the rich could be buried with this kind of tomb. Joseph of Arimathaea was not only rich because of the tin mines he owned in Glastonbury England, (check out the book by E. Raymond Capp “The Traditions of Glastonbury”) but was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin. Back to Mat.27 and verse 61 reads.
Mat.27:61] And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.
[62] Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
[63] Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
Recorded here in Matthew as early as chapter 16, Mat.16 and verse 21 reads.
Mat.16:21] From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
I’m sure this had Pilates attention, didn’t they say in their reason for his death sentence that he said he was the Son of God. Now they are afraid that it might be true. Back to Mat.27 and verse 64 reads.
Mat.27:64] Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
This is written in the history books of Josiah that this is exactly what the Jews (pharisee’s) did say.
Mat.27:65] Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
See to it yourselves, Pilate had washed his hands because he knew they did this out of envy.
Mat.27:66] So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
They did set watchmen and they did seal the tomb so that they would know if any man did move the stone. This would not be enough, for the Word of God will happen exactly as it is written. Awesome study, let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
