Todays’ lesson in Matthew 13 is going to be awesome in many ways, so let’s get started. Matthew 13 and verse 1 reads.
Mathew 13
[1] The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.
[2] And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
What Jesus did here is, he took a boat out a little way from the shore and turned to speak to them on the shore. What this makes is an amphitheater.
[3] And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
To sow is to broadcast, the seed is the Word of God.
[4] And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
This way side is “this world”. Jesus is our way, yet we are in him and not of this world, we are here to teach the word of God to them in this world.
[5] Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
[6] And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
They had no depth of God’s word. And at the first sign of trouble, they had no backbone.
[7] And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
These thorns are Satan and his minions.
[8] But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
Now these are places that can produce a harvest.
[9] Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Whenever you hear ears to hear, this is talking to God’s Elect. Did you understand what was said? Then chances are you are one of Gods elect.
[10] And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
[11] He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
By speaking in parables, he separates them that should know, from them that should not know. Let’s go to Isaiah 29:10 and see what is said there.
Isa.29:10] For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.
[11] And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
Remember these are those without ears to hear. God’s word is not sealed. As a matter of fact, he tells them that they cannot harm them with the seal of God in their foreheads.
Mat.13:12] And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.
[13] Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
These false teachers in the churches today are like the teachers they had when Jesus was there. They are Kenites. Now back to Matthew 13 and verse 12 reads.
Mat.13:12] For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
[13] Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
[14] And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
Here we go to Isaiah again. Isaiah 6:9 and it reads.
Isa.6:9] And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
[10] Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
Jesus is quoting a lot of Isaiah. If he is not fulfilling prophesy then he is teaching prophesy. Thinking back to the parable of the Sower we remember that it is talking about the word of God and more importantly, it is our job to spread the word of God. Back to Matthew and it reads.
Mat.13:15] For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
Some people around Jesus at the time of teaching the parable were not meant to understand. Nor would they want to understand, because they were of that wicked one.
Mat.13:16] But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
[17] For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
As for with Jesus it is the same as now, these end times. The prophets wanted to see his day and these last days. Jesus explains the parable now.
Mat.13:18] Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.
[19] When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
[20] But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
[21] Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
[22] He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
[23] But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
Did not want to interrupt Jesus explaining the parable himself. But as for verse 22 let’s go to Jeremiah 4:3 and it reads.
Jer.4:3] For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.
These would be among Satan and his seed. And verse 23, we that planted the seed and those that received the seed are Gods elect. We will continue this study tomorrow. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
