Great chapter today so let’s get started and Luke 22 and verse 1 reads.
Luke 22:1] Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.
This will be the last Passover that Jesus has with his disciples. This is The Passover that Christ would become. Our Passover Lamb.
Luke 22:2] And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
Proving these chief priest and scribes are Kenites. They have murder in their hearts. Their father Cain was the first murderer.
Luke 22:3] Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
[4] And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
[5] And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
They purchased the Christ for 30 pieces of silver as prophesied about 400 yrs. before in Zac.11:12-13 let’s go there and read.
Zac.11:12] And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.
[13] And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.
We’ll get back to the potter’s field later, but just so you know that it was prophesied long before in the Old Testament is enough for now. Back to Luke and verse 6 reads.
Luke 22:6] And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.
To afraid to do it by day, they must do it by night. Kind of like Antifa, BLM, and all the other monsters in our streets today. But I digress, back to Luke and verse 7 reads.
Luke 22:7] Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
Keep in mind that the new day began at sundown. Making this the 13th. day, but at sundown the 14th. they killed the Passover lamb on the 14th. day. So, we will go to Exodus 12 and read about the first Passover.
Exo.12:1] And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
[2] This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
This beginning of months is the spring equinox.
Exo.12:3] Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
[4] And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
Some families were small and the lamb was not to go to waste, so it was ok for families to share a lamb.
Exo.12:5] Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
[6] And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
[7] And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
[8] And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
[9] Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
[10] And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
[11] And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’s passover.
Eat it with the readiness of leaving, prepared to leave at first light.
Exo.12:12] For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
[13] And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
[14] And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
Forever, until even this day, sayeth the LORD. This is why we are to observe Passover today and not Easter. One more place to go and that is 1Cor.5:7 and it reads.
1Cor.5:7] Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
Christ became our Passover for this reason we should observe the Passover. Back to Luke 22 and verse 8 reads.
Luke 22:8] And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.
[9] And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
[10] And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
This is strange, men didn’t carry pitchers back then, women carried pitchers. Given to them as a sign. But notice that Jesus has everything planned out as usual.
Luke 22:11] And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
[12] And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
[13] And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
[14] And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
[15] And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
[16] For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
And now comes our communion in which we continue taking the Passover with our Lord.” Do this in remembrance of me.” if at any time you wish to take communion read from here as you take it.
Luke 22:17] And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
[18] For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
[19] And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
[20] Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
Jesus is talking about the cup of wine, His blood is the New Testament, the new covenant which is His sacrifice for all sin. That on repentance all sins are forgiven. Meaning his blood on the cross replaces all blood ordinances, like sacrifices and circumcision. For circumcision is of the heart and is for both man and woman now. But the law itself is still in effect.
Luke 22:21] But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
[22] And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!
This too is prophesy, let’s go to Psa.41:9 and read.
Psa.41:9] Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
Now, his disciples could not think any of the others could do such a thing so they started to doubt themselves.
Luke 22:23] And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
In other gospels they would ask “is it me?” but notice how quickly they turn to arguing among themselves?
Luke 22:24] And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
[25] And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
[26] But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
[27] For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
You wonder who will be greater, Jesus wants to know who will serve.
Luke 22:28] Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.
[29] And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;
[30] That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
I want to go to that kingdom and see what Jesus is talking about. For that we need to go to Matthew 19:28 and read.
Mat.19:28] And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Now in Revelations we find that there are 24 thrones around Gods throne. These are the twelve Apostles and the twelve patriarchs of Israel. We’re looking for that kingdom that Jesus was talking about. Rev.21:10-14 and it reads.
Rev.21:10] And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
[11] Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
[12] And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
[13] On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
[14] And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
So, we have the twelve children of the tribes (fathers of the tribes), and the twelve Apostles of the Lamb. That’s 24, let’s now go to Rev.4:4 and read.
Rev.4:4] And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.
To make a long story short, these twelve apostles and the twelve children of Jacob sit around the throne on their own thrones judging the children of Israel. Now let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
