In today’s study our titles are; Verses 1-8 The question of Jesus’s authority. Verses 9-18 The parable of the wicked husbandman. Verses 19-26 The question of the tribute money. Verses 27-38 The question of the resurrection. Verses 39-47 The question of David’s son. Now, the first verse takes us from where we left off in Luke 19:47, Jesus is teaching in the synagogue after cleansing the temple. Luke 20 and verse 1 reads.

Luke 20:1] And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders,

In the Greek, this; Came upon him, means with hostility. We notice that we have priests, scribes and elders. We have most of the religious oppressors of the temple. I want to remind you these are Kenites that have taken over the temple. 1Chronicles 2 and verse 55 reads.

1Chron.2:55] And the families of the scribes which dwelt at Jabez; the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and Suchathites. These are the Kenites that came of Hemath, the father of the house of Rechab.

Kenites H7014 Kayin and means; sons of Cain, the first murderer, children of the Serpent from the garden. I just wanted you to know who it is questioning our LORD. Back to Luke 20 and verse 2 reads.

Luke 20:2] And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?

They asked who gave you this authority? Jesus Christ, that is Yahoveh’s Savior, the anointed One, Messiah, the Son of God. The Word of God, that’s who. Funny, Peter was asked this very question by these same people after he healed an impotent man in Acts 4 and verse 6 reads.

Acts 4:6] And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.
[7] And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?
[8] Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
[9] If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;
[10] Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

Always teach Christ crucified, it represents his resurrection. Back to Luke 20 and verse 3 reads.

Luke 20:3] And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:

I love when Jesus answers a question with a question. This question will show the cowardness of the priest and scribes.

Luke 20:4] The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?

John gave this answer himself in John 1 and verse 24 reads.

John 1:24] And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
[25] And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
[26] John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
[27] He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

Now let’s see how they answer the Lord. Luke 20 and verse 5 reads.

Luke 20:5] And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?
[6] But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.

Remember when we studied this in-depth, Luke 7 and verse 26 reads.

Luke 7:26] But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
[27] This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
[28] For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
[29] And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
[30] But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.

They refused the counsel of God by their own words. Back to Luke 20 and verse 7 reads.

Luke 20:7] And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was.

Afraid of the people from their own congregation, who Jesus has been teaching these last few days. They had learned the truth and had received it gladly.

Luke 20:8] And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

They knew he had authority, after all he just cleansed the temple of their wickedness. Now Jesus tells another parable, ears to hear, God’s Elect this is for you to know and understand.

Luke 20:9] Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.

This parable is showing us what God’s children are to be doing from the crucifixion until the second advent. Do not overlook in this parable it says what the Kenites will be doing also.

Luke 20:10] And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.

The first servants he sent are his prophets for the first advent. These servants the LORD will send for the second advent are his Elect. Let’s go to 2Kings 17 and verse 12 reads.

2Kings 17:12] For they served idols, whereof the LORD had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.
[13] Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.

The LORD has warned his children from long ago. In these end times there will be an apostacy, a great falling away from the LORD when his children are deceived and worship the antichrist. Back to Luke 20 and verse 11 reads.

Luke 20:11] And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
[12] And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.

These would be the remnant for the end times. A remnant is a person who brings forth the Truth from generation to generation. Basically, one who dies before the second advent and we’ll see riding behind Jesus when he returns.

Luke 20:13] Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him.
[14] But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
[15] So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?

Remember the Kenites are hearing this parable also. They know they are already planning to kill Jesus. Notice that the heir is taken out of the vineyard and killed. Jesus will be taken out of Jerusalem and killed.

Luke 20:16] He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.

God forbid what? That they will be destroyed, and lose their vineyard that they have been planning on taking from the righteous Heir. Paul spoke of this in Romans 11 and verse 11 reads.

Rom.11:11] I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

These are the ones some call Jews, I do not, they are of the tribe of Judah and they have a stumbling block. Some do not accept that Jesus is the Son of God. Back to Luke 20 and verse 17 reads.

Luke 20:17] And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
[18] Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

Jesus is quoting scripture and we will see exactly what is meant. Psalms 118 and verse 21 reads.

Psa.118:21] I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.

The first advent is for Salvation.

Psa.118:22] The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

Here is where Jesus was quoting from. Pay attention, Christ has become the headstone of the church. We are the many membered body that make up the church.

Psa.118:23] This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
[24] This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
[25] Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.

Hosanna in the highest, save now.

Psa.118:26] Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.

Those in the synagogue where Jesus was teaching received the Word and praised the LORD.

Psa.118:27] God is the LORD, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.
[28] Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee.

Jesus became our Passover Lamb sacrificed for our sins. The horns (power) of the altar which Christ rent at his crucifixion. That gives us the first advent. Now let’s go to Psalms 110 and verse 1 reads.

Psa.110:1] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
[2] The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

This would be the second advent. Jesus comes with the rod of iron for correction. And Isaiah 8 and verse 14 reads.

Isa.8:14] And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
[15] And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
[16] Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

For his Elect’s sake, seal up the Word of God in your foreheads. But why did Jesus say it shall grind them to powder? When the children came out of captivity from Egypt the first thing they did was to make a false god. Let’s go to Exodus 32 and verse 20 reads.

Exo.32:20] And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

Here is how we read for both advents. The Pharisees denied the baptism of John, the generation of the end times deny the Living Water which is Jesus Christ. Moses crushed to powder the golden calf that they worshipped and Christ will crush those who worship the antichrist in the end times. Now these Kenites that ruled in the synagogue knew this testimony was against them. That’s why they said God forbid. Back to Luke 20 and verse 19 reads.

Luke 20:19] And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.

They were right to perceive that he spoke it against them. But coward about the people who heard (ears to hear) the Word of God in the synagogue and believed.

Luke 20:20] And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.

Here is our example for these end times. They watched and sent spies. Pretending to be just men, righteous. To deliver up to Roman rule, because they had no power to put to death anyone. They will deliver you up in these end times to Satan. Our destiny, so that the Holy Spirit will speak through us as a testimony against them, speaking of the Kenites in these end times.

Luke 20:21] And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:

See how righteous they sound. Knowing he taught the Word of God truly, then why are they trying to set Jesus up with this next question.

Luke 20:22] Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no?

Is it lawful to pay taxes? I wish the answer was no, but seriously, nowhere in God’s Word does it say we are not to pay taxes. On the contrary, it says to obey the civil laws so we are not thrown in prison. If you are in prison, then how can the LORD use you in this world for his good.

Luke 20:23] But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?

Tempting the LORD is against his law. Deut.6:16. Notice that Jesus knew their craftiness. Jesus will make this about the flesh and the spirit.

Luke 20:24] Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar’s.
[25] And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar’s, and unto God the things which be God’s.

What is of flesh, is of the flesh. But what is of the Spirit is of Spirit. Let’s go to Romans 13 and verse 7 reads.

Rom.13:7] Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
[8] Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

Back to Luke 20 and verse 26 reads.

Luke 20:26] And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.

What Jesus said was true, so now they will have to find someone to lie about him at the trial.

Luke 20:27] Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,

It is important to know the difference between a Pharisee and a Sadducees. A Sadducees G4523 Saddoukaios pronounced sad-doo-kah’-yos. And means; The righteous. This sect of the Israelites came to be only after the captivity of Babylon. 1. a religious party at the time of Christ among the Jews, who denied that the oral law was a revelation of God to the Israelites, and who deemed the written law alone to be obligatory on the nation, as the divine authority. They denied the following doctrines: a. resurrection of the body. b. immortality of the soul. c. existence of spirits and angels. d. divine predestination, affirmed free will. So, they don’t believe in everlasting life, or of God who wrote the scriptures that they vehemently disagree with. How then can the Pharisees which do believe in life after death ever align with them, but they do. We see this today in a certain political party here in the United States as well as in our churches today. Be wiser than the serpent. Back to Luke 20 and verse 28 reads.

Luke 20:28] Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man’s brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

This law of Moses is written in Deuteronomy 25 and verse 5 reads.

Deu.25:5] If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her.
[6] And it shall be, that the firstborn which she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not put out of Israel.

There are some specifics that are mentioned here that the Sadducees left out. The brothers must dwell together. The other is kinsman redeemer, that the name of the first be not forgotten in Israel. Now, the Sadducees will bring up a nonfactual circumstance. Back to Luke 20 and verse 29 reads.

Luke 20:29] There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
[30] And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.
[31] And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
[32] Last of all the woman died also.
[33] Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.

Remember they don’t believe in the resurrection and they are being deceitful. Let’s go to 1Timothy 1 and verse 4 reads.

1Tim.1:4] Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

Now let’s go to 1Timothy 4 and verse 7 reads.

1Tim.4:7] But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

Do not let trickery in these end times take you away from the Word of God. They will try to deceive if it were possible even God’s Elect. Back to Luke 20 and verse 34 reads.

Luke 20:34] And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:

These children are children of this world age, Ion in the Greek, and is a length of time. Meaning; of this second earth age, where all are to come in the flesh to choose between God and Satan. It is only of the flesh in this world age where we are given in marriage one to another.

Luke 20:35] But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:

Let’s go to Philippians 3 and verse 9 reads.

Phil.3:9] And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Remember what Sadducees means in the Greek, The righteous. Trickery.

Phil.3:10] That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
[11] If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

Back to Luke 20 and verse 36 reads.

Luke 20:36] Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

Remember they that are accounted worthy, receive life everlasting.

Luke 20:37] Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

Jesus quoted Exodus 3:6. Let’s go to Ecclesiastes 12 and verse 6 reads.

Ecc.12:6] Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
[7] Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

When the flesh dies it goes back to dust, but the spirit returns to the Father who gave it at the conception. Unfortunately, some false teachers teach there are bodies left in the ground. No one is left in a hole in the ground. Back to Luke 20 and verse 38 reads.

Luke 20:38] For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.
[39] Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.
[40] And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.

Seems to me that the scribes came and saved the Sadducees from further embarrassment.

Luke 20:41] And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David’s son?
[42] And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
[43] Till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
[44] David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?

The scribes would not answer Jesus on this simple question. This is a Psalm of David, let’s go to Psalms 110 and verse 1 reads.

Psa.110:1] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Here is where Jesus is quoting from. Jesus is on the right hand of the LORD after his resurrection until the second advent, the seventh trump.

Psa.110:2] The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

He then gives us the second advent, when Jesus will return with that rod of Iron for vengeance.

Psa.110:3] Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.

We the Elect will serve the LORD in that great Day of the LORD.

Psa.110:4] The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Melchizedek; Melchi is King and Zedek is Holy Priest. KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. This is how Jesus could say Abraham wanted to see his day. Gen.14:18.

Psa.110:5] The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.
[6] He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries.
[7] He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.

Lift up the head fulfills the first prophecy in God’s Word. Let’s go to Genesis 3 and verse 15 reads.

Gen.3:15] And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

We see here that it is written from the beginning that there are two seeds. The woman’s seed and the Serpent’s seed. The children of God and the Kenites, of that wicked one. The Serpent’s seed bruised his heels when they nailed them to the cross. But at the second advent, the LORD’s Day, he will bruise his head, lift it up. This is the answer to Jesus’s question. There are two advents and God’s Word will come to pass exactly as it is written. Back to Luke 20 and verse 45 reads.

Luke 20:45] Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples,
[46] Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
[47] Which devour widows’ houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

This is why Jesus didn’t wait for an answer from those Kenites. Let’s go to 1Peter 4 and verse 17 reads.

1Pet.4:17] For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?

Judgement begins at the house of the LORD. The LORD only knows the hearts of his children, that’s why only He is the Judge. Those that play church will receive everything according to their works. Let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
