The apostle Luke is unique in that he was a physician and highly educated. He would not only write this gospel but also right most of Acts. And as Paul’s scribe (not because Paul wasn’t educated but because Paul, as you may know, had a little trouble with his eyesight) he would write most of Paul’s epistles. He gives us a perspective like none other. Luke 1 and verse 1 reads.
Luke 1:1] Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
Is he speaking of the others who also wrote Gospels or of another? Let’s go to Zechariah 6 and verse 12 reads.
Zec.6:12] And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:
This BRANCH is Jesus Christ. Rev.21:22 says that the LORD God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple thereof.
Zec.6:13] Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
King of kings and Lord of lords, Melchizedek. Back to Luke 1 and verse 2 reads.
Luke 1:2] Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;
Luke said we witnessed these things. Also being written in Acts 10 and verse 39 reads.
Acts 10:39] And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
[40] Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
After his resurrection he was with them for 40 days teaching. Back to Luke 1 and verse 3 reads.
Luke 1:3] It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
This word Theophilus should have been translated instead of being transliterated. It means; beloved of God, and should be read in that way. Luke is saying with perfect understanding it was given to him to write this gospel. We know, or should know, that all of God’s Word is written by men, but only because God has given the inspiration of it. Let’s go to Job 32 and verse 8 reads.
Job 32:8] But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.
And also, in 2Tim. 3 and verse 16 reads.
2Tim.3:16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Now we can understand Acts 1 and verse 1 reads.
Acts 1:1] The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
O Theophilus should read O beloved of God. I hope you can see how it is Luke that is doing the writing here.
Acts 1:2] Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
Given to the Apostles to write the New Testament. Back to Luke 1 and verse 4 reads.
Luke 1:4] That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.
Let’s go to John 20 and verse 30 reads.
John 20:30] And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
[31] But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
The reason the gospels are written for us today. Now we come to the birth of John the Baptist foretold. Luke 1 and verse 5 reads.
Luke 1:5] There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
Let’s take some time here. First, the course of Abia. There are 24 courses throughout the year. Each course is repeated but once more. Giving us 48 courses throughout the year. That is 48 weeks covered in a year. Passover and the feast of Tabernacles required all priests to be there for much was needed from them because the sacrifices were so great. This gives us 52 weeks for the year. Now, this course of Abia was the eighth course giving us a date. June 13-19. Keeping in mind there was a second date, that would be Dec.6-12, but as we will see it could be only the first in June. Why? Because with this knowledge we see that Jesus will be born on September 29th. Making Dec.25 the day of his conception. We will keep track of the timeline so there is no misunderstanding. Let’s not overlook that Zacharias and his wife Elisabeth are Levites and much more of the daughters of Aaron. This is very important in having the Key of David. Verse 6 continues.
Luke 1:6] And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Both righteous before God and blameless. Because they kept the commandments and ordinances.
Luke 1:7] And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.
[8] And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his course,
[9] According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
His job was to burn the incense. Let’s go to Exodus 30 and verse 7 reads.
Exo.30:7] And Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it.
[8] And when Aaron lighteth the lamps at even, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations.
Zacharias doing the job of Aaron, the high priest. Back to Luke 1 and verse 10 reads.
Luke 1:10] And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.
The people outside were sending their prayers up with the smoke of the incense, no doubt a tradition of men. But there is reason they are outside and not inside. Let’s go to Leviticus 16 and verse 17 reads.
Lev.16:17] And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made an atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel.
Back to Luke 1 and verse 11 reads.
Luke 1:11] And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
[12] And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
[13] But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
The people outside were not the only ones sending up prayers with the smoke of the incense, apparently Zacharias was also. He prayed for a son. Now, Elisabeth would be considered too old and Mary will be considered too young, the LORD is in charge.
Luke 1:14] And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
This will be confirmed in verse 58.
Luke 1:15] For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.
He will be under the vow of a Nazarene. Not only in the womb with his own spirit, but filled with the Holy Spirit when Mary walks into their home. Because she has the Holy Spirit within her womb. Luke 1:41.
Luke 1:16] And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
They will find him in the wilderness, with clothes of the prophets and eating the food of prophets.
Luke 1:17] And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
John the Baptist will come in the spirit of Elijah, he will return the children’s hearts to their fathers, plural. Both to God the Father and to the serpent, father of the Kenites. This is prophesied in Malachi 4 and verse 5 reads.
Mal.4:5] Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
[6] And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
Now, this both speaks of the first advent and also the second advent. being said here in Luke 1:17 for the first, and we know that before the second advent God sends his two witnesses. Back to Luke 1 and verse 18 reads.
Luke 1:18] And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
This shows Gabriel doubt, and it will anger him. Gabriel means; man of God. It is a Hebrew name. But Zacharias wasn’t the only to doubt this kind of situation, let’s go to Genesis 17 and verse 17 reads.
Gen.17:17] Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?
Because he and Sarah laughed, God named his son Isaac, which means; laughter. Back to Luke 1 and verse 19 reads.
Luke 1:19] And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
[20] And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
Gabriel didn’t have the sense of humor that God allowed for Abraham. This shows me God and Abraham had a unique and loving relationship. Zacharias would not be able to speak because he did not believe. What is a priest to do if he cannot speak?
Luke 1:21] And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.
[22] And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless.
This word beckoned means he was giving them sign language, they probably didn’t understand what he was trying to say. Now, keep in mind the timeline, it is very important, I will do my best to explain as we go along.
Luke 1:23] And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.
His days would be accomplished on June 19, the next day would be a sabbath where no one could travel more than a mile. So, he would be leaving on June 20 and having 60 miles to travel, being old, would take him to June 24 to get home.
Luke 1:24] And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
[25] Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.
This would bring us to Nov.24. We now come to the Virgin Birth of Jesus.
Luke 1:26] And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
In the sixth month of Elisabeth’s pregnancy would take us to Dec.24 and at sundown would be Dec.25.
Luke 1:27] To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
Espoused means; engaged to be married. Now, Joseph being of the house of David means a great deal. Not only was he of the tribe of Judah, but he was of the king line. This is important that we know he was of this lineage, it gives him credentials as we will see that Jesus’s lineage is given in Luke 3, but Joseph’s lineage is given in Mat.1. Two different lineages, but one can see he too is of the house of David.
Luke 1:28] And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
If you would like an in-depth study of these times and courses, you will find App.179 in the Appendix’s of the Companion Bible from Dr. E. W. Bullinger a must read.
Luke 1:29] And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
Mary knows that the blessings for women is child birth, this would make her question the salutation, being she is a virgin.
Luke 1:30] And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
[31] And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
Jesus means; Yahaveh’s Savior. Let’s go to Isaiah 7 and verse 14 reads.
Isa.7:14] Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Immanuel means; God with us. Prophecy coming to fulfillment. Back to Luke 1 and verse 32 reads.
Luke 1:32] He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
This is why David is so important. Let’s go to Psalms 132 and verse 10 reads.
Psa.132:10] For thy servant David’s sake turn not away the face of thine anointed.
[11] The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.
Speaking of Jesus here in the Old Testament. Now, let’s go to the promise made to David by the prophet Nathan. 2Sam.7 and verse 12 reads.
2Sam.7:12] And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
[13] He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
[14] I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
[15] But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
[16] And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
[17] According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.
The promise given to David would be that through his seed would the Christ come, the Messiah, the anointed one. Back to Luke 1 and verse 33 reads.
Luke 1:33] And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
[34] Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
Mary is not doubting Gabriel, she is simply making a good point, she is a virgin.
Luke 1:35] And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
The Holy Spirit will come over her and she will conceive. Jesus is the Son of God.
Luke 1:36] And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
Don’t lose track, this is Dec.25. Also, note that Elisabeth and Mary are cousins, their mothers are sisters. Meaning Mary’s mother is also of the house of Aaron, the Levitical priest line. Why is this so important? We will see in Luke 3 that Mary’s father was Heli, of the tribe of Judah. And of Nathan, brother to Solomon both sons of David, the king line. With Mary’s father of the king line and Mary’s mother of the priest line (specifically of Aaron), we have Melchizedek; KING of KINGS and LORD of LORDS.
Luke 1:37] For with God nothing shall be impossible.
One of the most important verses of the bible, never forget that verse, it should bring great comfort to all.
Luke 1:38] And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
Now with Elisabeth she was old and considered barren, but Mary is quite young and is betrothed to Joseph. If a young woman was found to be pregnant it could mean the death penalty for her, she could be stoned.
Luke 1:39] And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;
Gabriel told her to go and see Elisabeth. She left immediately. Now, this Hill country is important. It was given to the Levitical priest line in Joshua 21 and verse 8 reads.
Joshua 21:8] And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.
[9] And they gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are here mentioned by name,
[10] Which the children of Aaron, being of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi, had: for theirs was the first lot.
Adding to the importance of Jesus’s genealogy. He was of the tribe of Judah and of the priest line through the tribe of Levi. King of Kings and LORD of Lords. after the order of Melchizedek. Back to Luke 1 and verse 40 reads.
Luke 1:40] And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
Mary would see this trip was not just for her, but for Elisabeth also.
Luke 1:41] And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
This is when the Holy Spirit enters into John the Baptist also as prophesied in verse 15 above. This also tells us that life begins at conception. When the LORD places the soul of the child into the mother’s womb.
Luke 1:42] And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
[43] And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
Elisabeth knew that Mary was carrying the LORD in her womb. Because Gabriel gave her the news that her child would be the one crying in the wilderness.
Luke 1:44] For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
Elisabeth is giving Mary confirmation of what Gabriel had told her.
Luke 1:45] And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
She that believed, without doubt as her husband Zacharias had doubted and was since dumb and could not speak.
Luke 1:46] And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
Even Mary was prophesied of what she would say in the Old Testament, let’s go to Psalms 34 and verse 2 reads.
Psa.34:2] My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
[3] O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
Did you notice it said “Her”, Mary being of the daughters of Aaron and knowing the Word. Back to Luke 1 and verse 47 reads.
Luke 1:47] And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
God my Savior is mentioned in 37 verses in the Bible, 16 times in the Old Testament and 21 times in the New Testament. One cannot understand the Trinity if you cannot understand that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are One. But don’t overlook Mary knew the Spirit. Let’s go to Psalms 35 and verse 9 reads.
Psa.35:9] And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation.
And in Habakkuk 3 and verse 18 reads.
Hab.3:18] Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
Back to Luke 1 and verse 48 reads.
Luke 1:48] For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
Yes, blessed is Mary we say even now. But what is this that is said before? Let’s go to Psa.138 and verse 6 reads.
Psa.138:6] Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.
I went there to show Mary knew the Word of God very well. Back to Luke 1 and verse 49 reads.
Luke 1:49] For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.
Mary is still speaking, she again quotes Psa.71:19, 111:9. Let’s take a look, Psa.71 and verse 19 reads.
Psa.71:19] Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!
Now, Psalms 111 and verse 9 reads.
Psa.111:9] He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.
And reverend is his name is the true translation for “Fear”. it is H3372 yârêʼ pronounced yaw-ray’. To fear, reverence, honor, respect. To stand in awe of or be awed. Psa.111:9 is the only place in the Bible where we find it correctly translated Reverend. Back to Luke 1 and verse 50 reads.
Luke 1:50] And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
That love and revere him, “fear”. This promise was made to Abraham in Genesis 17 and verse 7 reads.
Gen.17:7] And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
Back to Luke 1 and Mary continues in verse 51 and it reads.
Luke 1:51] He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
Has anyone ever known what a great teacher Mary was, or knew she was even a teacher until now? Let’s go to Psalms 98 and verse 1 reads.
Psa.98:1] O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.
[2] The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.
And also Psalms 118:15 reads.
Psa.118:15] The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.
And in Isaiah 40 and verse 10 reads.
Isa.40:10] Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
[11] He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
Peter would also teach this in 1Pet.5 and verse 5 reads.
1Pet.5:5] Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
[6] Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Mary was an exceptional teacher, being a daughter of Aaron, and chosen by God to be the mother of our LORD Jesus Christ. Back to Luke 1 and verse 52 reads.
Luke 1:52] He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
Mary is still teaching here, one of the mighty ones was Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon.
Luke 1:53] He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
Mary sure loves the Psalms, let’s go to Psa.107 and verse 8 reads.
Psa.107:8] Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
[9] For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
Also, Jesus would teach us in Mat.5 and verse 6 reads.
Mat.5:6] Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Back to Luke 1 and verse 54 reads.
Luke 1:54] He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;
Let’s go back to Psa.98 and verse 3 reads.
Psa.98:3] He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
Much is written in the Psalms about the coming of our LORD Jesus Christ. Back to Luke 1 and verse 55 reads.
Luke 1:55] As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
Let’s go back to Genesis 17 and verse 5 reads.
Gen.17:5] Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
The LORD added the H, which is for grace. A father of many nations. 12 tribes with Jacob (Israel), 12 tribes with Ishmael and 12 tribes with Esau. We have today Esau being Russia, Ishmael being the nations of Arabia, and all twelve tribes of Israel being in America today with the tribe of Judah being Israel of today.
Gen.17:6] And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
[7] And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
[8] And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.
[9] And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.
He established his seed through Isaac. Mary leaves off speaking here. Back to Luke 1 and verse 56 reads.
Luke 1:56] And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
Mary stayed until John the Baptist was born. This would bring us to the time of the Passover.
Luke 1:57] Now Elisabeth’s full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
Bringing Gabriel’s words to come to pass.
Luke 1:58] And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
Telling me Mary stayed until she gave birth to John by the words; her cousins.
Luke 1:59] And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
[60] And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
John G2491 means; Yah is a gracious giver.
Luke 1:61] And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
Customary to call a child after his father, but here we have Gabriel (speaking for the LORD) naming the child John. This would be the sixth man in the flesh that the LORD has named, Jesus would be the seventh.
Luke 1:62] And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
[63] And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.
[64] And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.
Notice the first words Zacharias would speak would be to praise the LORD.
Luke 1:65] And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea.
Fear should have been translated love. Notice in the hill country, these being the land that was lotted for Aaron and the Levites. For these would be given for the cities of the prophets and priests. Josh.21:9.
Luke 1:66] And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.
The hand of the Lord is enough for great things. Let’s go to Acts 11 and verse 21 reads.
Acts 11:21] And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.
John the Baptist would turn the hearts of the children back to their fathers, in the spirit of Elijah. Back to Luke 1 and verse 67 reads.
Luke 1:67] And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
Zacharias called a prophet being filled with the Holy Spirit. Remember they live in the land lotted for the prophets and the priest.
Luke 1:68] Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
Let’s go to Exodus 3 and verse 16 reads.
Exo.3:16] Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:
Back to Luke, more prophecies come forth out of Zacharias, and verse 69 reads.
Luke 1:69] And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
Let’s go to 2 Samuel 22 and verse 2 reads.
2Sam.22:2] And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
[3] The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
And in Psalms 132 and verse 16 reads.
Psa.132:16] I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.
[17] There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.
Back to Luke 1 and verse 70 reads.
Luke 1:70] As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
From the first earth age, before the foundations of this second earth age.
Luke 1:71] That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
Those who hate them in that time, and for those of us in these end times. 1Cor.10:11.
Luke 1:72] To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
Let’s go to Micah 7 and verse 20 reads.
Mic.7:20] Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old.
These promises were for both advents, for both times Christ would come. Meaning also for the end times. Back to Luke 1 and verse 73 reads.
Luke 1:73] The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
Promised to Abrams in Genesis 12 and verse 3 reads.
Gen.12:3] And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
From his seed would Christ be born. Now let’s go to Hebrews 6 and verse 13 reads.
Heb.6:13] For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
[14] Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
[15] And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
Back to Luke 1 and verse 74 reads.
Luke 1:74] That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
We are to stay in the field working today, without fear of our enemies. Without fear because our sins are forgiven. For of that righteous blessing from God, Jesus Christ. Let’s go to Romans 6 and verse 18 reads.
Rom.6:18] Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
Because with our sins forgiven, we can then be servants of God. Back to Luke 1 and verse 75 reads.
Luke 1:75] In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
The covenant promised was for God the Father to dwell with us, and we will be his children. The Father didn’t break the covenant, man broke it. And because of Jesus being our Savior, we have forgiveness on repentance.
Luke 1:76] And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
Speaking to his son John the Baptist now. As prophesied by the prophet Isaiah in Isa.40 and verse 3 reads.
Isa.40:3] The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
And Jesus spoke of John the Baptist in Matthew 11 and verse 9 reads.
Mat.11:9] But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
[10] For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
Back to Luke 1 and verse 77 reads.
Luke 1:77] To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
This is what John the Baptist would preach to the people before they were baptized by him.
Luke 1:78] Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
Jesus Christ is that Living Water, dayspring. From on high is God himself, let’s go to John 1 and verse 1 reads.
John 1:1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[2] The same was in the beginning with God.
[3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Jesus is the Word of God, and why we came here, verse 14 reads.
John 1:14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
The LORD came in the flesh and dwelt among us. Emmanuel, God with us. Back to Luke 1 and verse 79 reads.
Luke 1:79] To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Back to John 1 and verse 4 reads.
John 1:4] In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
[5] And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
[6] There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
[7] The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
[8] He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
Jesus is that Light. Back to Luke 1 and verse 80 reads.
Luke 1:80] And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.
Until Jesus came and showed himself to Israel, for Salvation for the world had come. Great study today. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
