ISAIAH 1

We have a problem with critics (false teachers) that Isaiah was not written by Isaiah alone. I found Dr. E.W. Bullinger explains it better than I ever could. Appendix 79 from his Companion Bible says the following.

The hypothesis of modern critics is that Isaiah is not the sole author of the prophecy bearing his name, but that he only wrote chapters 1-39 (called by them “the former portion”), and that an unknown author or authors (for there are now alleged to have been three, or more, Isaiahs) are responsible for chapters 40 to the end (called by them “the latter portion”).  Thus, they would treat this prophecy mush as Isaiah himself is said to have been treated, who, as tradition tells us, was “sawn asunder”. This “latter portion” also modern critics would relegate to a later date :  viz., toward the close of the seventy years’ exile.  This is a very modern theory; for, the one authorship of this prophecy has been held without question by both Jews and Christians for over 2,000 years.

He would go on to explain how it is written 21 times in the New Testament that Isaiah alone wrote the prophecy. He then goes on in Appendix 80 to explain and show that Isaiah is quoted 85 times in the New Testament, with 61 direct passages from his prophecy. Take time to understand this, it is important as many false teachers who preach from the pulpit tell these lies to deceive many. check my study in Topical Teachings” entitled Appendix’s 79 and 80 of the Companion Bible.

Now, Isaiah H3470 in the Strongs’ is Yᵉshaʻyâh in Hebrew means; Yah has saved. If you continue reading the Strongs’ you will find Jehovah has saved. Bringing his Holy Name into English. But his Holy Name is still his holy name and should be pronounced in the language in which it was given. Yah-a-veh. Now verses 1-9 are telling us that Judah is a sinful nation. Verses 10 to the end is a call to repentance. With that, Isaiah 1 and verse 1 reads.

Isa.1:1] The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

It is commonly thought that Isaiah was sent to the house of Israel, not to the house of Judah. But this just said Isaiah saw this vision concerning Judah. It is obviously written for both to consider. We find Isaiah in the books of the Kings, 2Kings and 2Chronicles, often. Now, as we learned above, the whole book of Isaiah is prophecy. So, what is prophecy? It is the Word of God given to a prophet for those of his time and as examples for us in the end times. 1Cor.10:11 reads.

1Cor.10:11] Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Back to Isa.1 and verse 2 reads.

Isa.1:2] Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORD hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.

The Father is speaking to all in heaven and to all on earth as well as Isaiah here so we listen, that we may learn.

Isa.1:3] The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.
[4] Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.

The Father is angry that his children have fallen away from his Word, a type for the Apostasy in the end times.

Isa.1:5] Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

Your leaders are sick, and as the leaders go there goes the whole House of Jacob. We find that the books of the other prophets are similar in many ways. But the Lord is faithful and will always send someone to bring them back to him. And this is called Prophecy. We find in the New Testament, as well as in this book, that we have God’s Elect for the end times.

Isa.1:6] From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.

He is speaking spiritually here and they are cursed when they didn’t have to be. Check out my study in “Topical Teachings” entitled Blessings and Cursings. Now when we read the following, I want you to think of America.

Isa.1:7] Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.

When you open your borders and let all the evil of the world into your country this is what happens.

Isa.1:8] And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.
[9] Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.

I want to go to the New Testament and we will find that the LORD has left us this way out, long ago in Isaiah for an example to us in these end times. Let’s go to Rom. 9:29 and it reads.

Rom.9:29] And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.

Esaias is Greek for Isaiah. We also have Sodom and Gomorrah. Look around today and tell me you don’t see it everywhere. Back to verse 9 of Isa.1 we read that he left us a remnant, that would be his elect. Back to Isa.1 and verse 10 reads.

Isa.1:10] Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.

We find in the “Song of Moses” Due.32 and verse 31 reads.

Due.32:31] For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.
[32] For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter:

Notice that their rock is lowercase, and our Rock is uppercase. These are Kenites. Remember from verses 10 to the end is a call to repentance. Back to Isa.1 and verse 11 reads.

Isa.1:11] To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.

We find this in Hosea 6:6 but let’s pick it up with verse 5, and it reads.

Hos.6:5] Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.

He sent many prophets and we have them now to study the word of God, now the reason we came here.

Hos.6:6] For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
[7] But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.

Do not overlook that his desire was for Mercy, and that we obtained the Knowledge of God. Back to Isa.1 and verse 12 reads.

Isa.1:12] When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?

Who asked you to come here, speaking to the Kenites and homosexuals. God sees his temple as his court, meaning the judgement hall. A very dangerous place for them.

Isa.1:13] Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.

I want you to catch that the new moons are also an abomination to him. Look at your calendar, they choose the Passover and even their easter according to the new moons. Christ became our High Sabbath or Passover. 1Cor.5:7 reads.

1Cor.5:7] Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

Leaven is used for our sins here. Christ became our Passover and not our easter. Back to Isa.1 and verse 14 continues.

Isa.1:14] Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.

The Lord hates, that’s right Hates. Why? because we are to worship him and not a day. And Christ became our Passover, his sacrifice for us was for all time.

Isa.1:15] And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.

The Kenites killed all the prophets from righteous Abel to Zacharias who they killed between the porch and the altar, this includes Isaiah. But these verses are a call for repentance.

Isa.1:16] Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;

Let’s go to the last place in God’s word that repentance can be found, I find it very relevant to this study. 2Pet.3:9 and it reads.

2Pet.3:9] The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

God doesn’t want any to parish, he loves all his children. But unfortunately, many will follow Satan into that lake of fire. Back to Isa.1 and verse 17 reads.

Isa.1:17] Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

Telling us to take care of the poor, this responsibility he gave to us. We can see how good the government does, this is why God has put it on our shoulders.

Isa.1:18] Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

The blood of the Lamb of God is the only reason we can stand before God. It is through repentance his blood covers our sins, making our garments as white as snow.

Isa.1:19] If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

He has a promise here for us, IF we are willing and obedient. How can we know how to be pleasing to God if we haven’t read his word? There my brothers and sisters is the answer, read with understanding the Word of God.

Isa.1:20] But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

Here is the Sword of the LORD, he gave us a clue here. He said by his mouth. Let’s go to Rev.1 and verse 16 reads.

Rev.1:16] And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

Out of his mouth, meaning his Word, is two edged, meaning the truth cuts both ways. It is the Word of God. Back to Isa.1 and verse 21 reads.

Isa.1:21] How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.

This city is Jerusalem, we learned this in the book of Revelation, chapter 17:5 reads.

Rev.17:5] And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Now we see that Isaiah is a prophet, what was written as a warning for them in his time, becomes prophecy for us in the end times. Back to Isa.1 and verse 1 reads.

Isa.1:22] Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water:

The apostasy has come to them then, as well as for us today. Hear the emotions of the LORD as we read.

Isa.1:23] Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.

The governments will not take care of the poor, this is why he put it on our shoulders. He knew they could nor would ever care for them, notice how those in high places become corrupted with bribes.

Isa.1:24] Therefore saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies:

This day is coming for those in Isaiah’s time. Remember he is speaking to Judah here. Let’s go to Due.28 where the LORD warned them, and verse 63 reads.

Due.28:63] And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest to possess it.
[64] And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.

The Lord is good at keeping his promises. Judah would go into captivity, but the House of Israel would go into captivity 200 years earlier. Both would be our examples for these end times, so important in understanding the prophets for they are written for our admonition in the end time. 1Cor.10:11. Of course this will all come to head at the sixth trump and we will wait for the seventh trump. Back to Isa.1 and verse 25 reads.

Isa.1:25] And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:

What is good for nothing will become nothing.

Isa.1:26] And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellers as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.
[27] Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.

This is why I studied the New Testament with you before coming to the Old. As we learned in the book of Revelation the LORD is coming here, and the LORD and the Lamb are the Temple thereof. Let’s go to Rev.21 and it reads.

Rev.21:10] And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

This mountain is Zion. It is the nation of Israel. He continues in verse 22 and it reads.

Rev.21:22] And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
[23] And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

Why anyone would want to fly away is beyond me, back to Isa.1 and verse 28 reads.

Isa.1:28] And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake the LORD shall be consumed.

For our God is a consuming fire. Heb.12:29.

Isa.1:29] For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen.
[30] For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden that hath no water.
[31] And the strong shall be as tow, and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.

An awesome start for an awesome book, did you hear the emotions of God today, I hope so. Let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
