In chapter nine today we will see the similarities of the Temple to that of Christ, and so much more. Heb.9 and verse 1 reads.
Heb.9:1] Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
[2] For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.
Jesus Christ is our Daily Bread. Easier to understand the manna that fell from heaven, which was angel’s food. The candlestick represents Jesus as that Light. The Tabernacle described is written in Exodus 25 and on. This verse would be Exo.25:8. But, I will not be following Exodus because we have so much more to learn.
Heb.9:3] And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
This is the veil that Christ rent after he gave up the Spirit on the cross. Mat.27:51.
Heb.9:4] Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
One of a few places we find what is in the ark of the covenant. Manna set aside for a witness to the children of God that he fed them in the wilderness. Aaron’s rod that budded, his staff representing the Priest line. And the Ten Commandments, God’s law.
Heb.9:5] And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.
Paul was taken to the third heaven age where he said it was not lawful to speak about. 2Cor.12:4. But, we find the ark of the testament in Rev.11:19 and it reads.
Rev.11:19] And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.
This is why Indiana Jones could never find the ark of the covenant because it’s in heaven behind the throne. When did it get there? If I had to guess, it would be when God transfigured Elijah and took him. There is no mention of the Ark after that, until Rev.11:19. Back to Heb.9 and verse 6 reads.
Heb.9:6] Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
[7] But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
I hope to make this easier to understand. The first veil, with the showbread, is the body of Christ. The second veil, is the blood of Christ that was to be given for remission of all of our sins. These are our sacraments for communion with the Lord, and the reason Jesus rent the veil so that we personally can come to the Lord without a priest between us and the Lord.
Heb.9:8] The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
The Holy Spirit did not make it known, before Jesus would come in the flesh. Let’s go to John 14:6-10 and it reads.
John 14:6] Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
[7] If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
[8] Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
[9] Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
[10] Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
Knowing the trinity really helps at this moment, but don’t forget why we came here. Jesus rent the veil in two, so that we can go to the Father alone in repentance. That he, knowing our hearts, can forgive our sins because Jesus himself shed his blood for our sins. Back to Heb.9 and verse 9 reads.
Heb.9:9] Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
The Old could not be perfect. But the blood of the Lamb, Jesus, was only without blemish. Let’s go to Galatians and read 3:21-23 and find why the Old was fulfilled in the New.
Gal.3:21] Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
[22] But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
[23] But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
Spoken that it would be revealed, from the Old to the New. Our New Testament is of Jesus Christ, without his blood we cannot be forgiven. The blood ordinance was done away with when they crucified him on the cross. Remember Jesus said I came not to change the law or the prophets, but to fulfill them. Mat.5:17. Back to Heb.9 and verse 10 reads.
Heb.9:10] Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
Shedding of blood for sins until The Lamb of God was sacrificed.
Heb.9:11] But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
Written in Revelations 21:22. And it reads.
Rev.21:22] And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
Back to Heb.9 and verse 12 reads.
Heb.9:12] Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
[13] For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
[14] How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
[15] And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Don’t overlook, it said, “And it is for this cause”. What we just read is the reason. For the promise of everlasting life, our sins can be forgiven upon repentance thanks to his sacrifice of himself.
Heb.9:16] For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
The testator is the one who writes the will, let that sink in.
Heb.9:17] For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
There can be no inheritance until the testator dies.
Heb.9:18] Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.
[19] For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
Notice the book also was sprinkled with blood. This is the Old Testament.
Heb.9:20] Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.
This is the covenant promised to them that day. For the Son of God would not come for a while, and this gave them by law forgiveness of sins.
Heb.9:21] Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
[22] And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
There is no remission of sins without blood, a sacrifice. Let’s remember Hos.6:6.
Hos.6:6] For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
He wanted our love and for us to know his Word, not burnt offerings. Back to Heb.9 and verse 23 reads.
Heb.9:23] It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
[24] For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
Christ stands as mediator between God and us.
Heb.9:25] Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;
His death on the cross was for once and for all time. Now, pay close attention to what is about to be said.
Heb.9:26] For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
A lot said here that is of the utmost importance. Foundation is G2602 Katabole in Greek. And is the overthrow of Satan in the first earth age. Then brings up the end of this world, where we have this world age, giving us two of the three earth ages. Meaning length of time. So, what was written here? Him sacrificing himself gives him the right to judge all in the end times because his blood was shed for our sins.
Heb.9:27] And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
This is a very important verse of the bible. Saying right here that all are to come through the flesh one time. There is no such thing as reincarnation. But, let’s go to 1John 4:17 and it reads.
1John 4:17] Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
Back to Heb.9 and verse 28 reads.
Heb.9:28] So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
This takes us back to John 3:16, whomsoever believes. But, let’s read the whole topic of this study today beginning with verse 13.
John 3:13] And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
[14] And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
[15] That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
[16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
[17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
[18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
That was the most important chapter in God’s word that I have studied in a long time. I hope that you received what the Spirit was giving to us in this chapter. The promise God gave to Moses. The comparison of the Tabernacle to Jesus Christ. The “Like” that God gave to us for our Communion. The reason for Christ’s death on the cross, and so much more. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.

One response to “HEBREWS 9”
Excellent Bible study, I did learn a few interesting details that I hadn’t caught before in my study’s… also I didn’t know that there was more than just the 10 commandments inside the Ark… God Bless
