Hebrews 4 continues from chapter 3 and are both written for us to have rest and peace of mind. Heb.4 and verse 1 reads.

Heb.4:1] Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

“To come short of it” means into unbelief. Don’t miss out on the promise of rest.

Heb.4:2] For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

The Gospel will not be profitable unless there is faith, faith justifies.

Heb.4:3] For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Belief or faith in the Word gives us rest or peace of mind knowing the three heaven and earth ages. Why? because this word “foundation” it is G2602 Katabolē in the Greek, and means the overthrow of the first earth age. Bringing in this second earth age, Salvation. In other words, we who study receive knowledge of deeper meanings (eyes are opened) to his word and through that we receive rest.

Heb.4:4] For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

This means what did happen was for an example to us today in these end times. 1Cor.10:11 reads.

1Cor.10:11] Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

What happened on the seventh day, the LORD rested. Back to Heb.4 and verse 5 reads.

Heb.4:5] And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

Let’s see our example a little more clearly in the Old Testament. first in Due.1:35 and it reads.

Due.1:35] Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers,

And now in Psa.95:7-11 and it reads.

Psa.95:7] For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,

We hear his voice in his Word.

Psa.95:8] Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
[9] When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.

They saw his work, the waters parted for them, the cloud by day and fire by night as well as many other miracles.

Psa.95:10] Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways:
[11] Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

There is no rest for the wicked, or unbelievers. Back to Heb.4 and verse 6 reads.

Heb.4:6] Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

We have been speaking of rest and peace of mind. Rest is Sabbath, which gives us peace of mind. Let’s go to 1Cor.5:6-8 and it reads.

1Cor.5:6] Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

Leaven is sin, think of this whole lump as the church, or as your body.

1Cor.5:7] Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

Clean yourself from sin, repent. But never overlook this verse, Christ is our Passover, not our Easter. Passover is the highest sabbath, our rest. Jesus is our rest.

1Cor.5:8] Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Keep the feast of “Our Daily Bread” sincerity and truth is The Word of God. Back to Heb.4 and verse 7 reads.

Heb.4:7] Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

We just read in Psa.95:7. But notice he limited a certain day. This is the Lords Day, the seventh day of rest. Coming soon, come Lord Jesus come.

Heb.4:8] For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
[9] There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

This Jesus in not the Christ, but rather Joshua. Jesus is Greek for Joshua. With that let’s go to Joshua chapter 6 and read about rest, which is sabbatical. Keep in mind 1Cor.10:11 all these things happen as example for us in these end times.

Josh.6:4] And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams’ horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.

The seven trumps shall sound. Skip down to verse 15 and it reads.

Josh.6:15] And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.                                                       [16] And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.

There were 4,000 yrs. before Christ and 2,000 yrs. since Christ making it the morning of the seventh day today. Watchmen watch. Back to Heb.4 and verse 10 reads.

Heb.4:10] For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

As God rested on the seventh day so did Jesus Christ until the next, which is very close, sitting on the right hand of God until his enemies be made his footstool.

Heb.4:11] Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

That example of unbelief given in the wilderness. Labor is our works, and with our works we receive rest (sabbath) in Jesus Christ.

Heb.4:12] For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Nowhere else is it said any better than here, and so much said also. Let’s begin with Rev.19:13 and it reads.

Rev.19:13] And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

Jesus is the Word of God, he is our gospel armor that we put on. Now let’s go to Rev.1:14-18 and it reads.

Rev.1:14] His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
[15] And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
[16] And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
[17] And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
[18] I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

These stars are the seven angels of the seven churches. Knowing this two-edged sword comes out of his mouth, meaning it is the Word of God. This is why the word of God is so powerful it is Jesus Christ the Living Word. Now about verse 12 it also read;” and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Only the Father can read our hearts, our minds. This proving the Father and the Son are One. Back to Heb.4 and verse 13 reads.

Heb.4:13] Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Simply meaning he gives knowledge.

Heb.4:14] Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

Jesus sits on the mercy seat.

Heb.4:15] For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
[16] Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Jesus (God with us) partook of the flesh also but did so without sin that as our Passover Lamb was without blemish. Now sits on the mercy seat and forgives our sins upon repentance. This is why it was said that he knows our hearts and intents. Only he knows if our repentance is pure, thus we have rest and peace of mind here on earth. Let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
