Hebrews 13

We will finish the book of Hebrews today. Heb.13 and verse 1 reads.

Heb.13:1] Let brotherly love continue.

Brotherly love is Philadelphia, this will be very important because of what is about to be said.

Heb.13:2] Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

As Christians we are to witness for Jesus Christ, some that seem interested in learning are not as they appear. Let’s go to the church of Philadelphia, Rev.3 and beginning with verse 6 and it reads.

Rev.3:6] He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
[7] And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;

Only our God is holy and true, only he can open eyes and ears (open and shut), so the LORD is speaking. Check out this key of David, it is the knowledge and understanding of the two seed lines. That of the woman’s seed, and that of the Serpent’s seed. Gen.3:14-15.

Rev.3:8] I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

Because of our works he has opened the door for us, this door is knowledge. Meaning he has opened our eyes to his word. We have kept his word, his commandments. But most important, we have never denied his name.

Rev.3:9] Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

Those that say they are Jews but do lie, are the Serpent’s seed, they are Kenites (offspring of Cain). But why are they worshipping at our feet? Because all will bow and worship at the coming of Jesus Christ, they are behind us worshipping Jesus.

Rev.3:10] Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

Studying God’s word gives us an advantage, this is why he said “You have kept my word”. This hour of temptation is the sixth trump, Satan is here claiming to be Jesus, and the whole world is deceived. But not us, we study to show ourselves approved.

Rev.3:11] Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
[12] Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

We are as royalty to our Lord. What do you think about being pillars in the temple of God, the pillars hold up the Temple. Verse 1 let us know that he was speaking of Philadelphia. Back to Heb.13 and verse 3 reads.

Heb.13:3] Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.

Imprisoned for teaching the word of God, as we are all the body of Christ, the church.

Heb.13:4] Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Adulterers are Idolaters, they worshipped the antichrist thinking he was the True Christ. Jesus said in Mark 13:17 “But woe unto them with child and give suck to them in those days”. He is speaking about the Christians that worship the antichrist, thinking he was the Christ. But did not have the patience of the saints, and did not wait for the marriage of the Lamb.

Heb.13:5] Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Do not covet (The tenth commandment), and be happy with what you have. Stay in his word, and he will never leave you or forsake you, for his Spirit is within us.

Heb.13:6] So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Psalms 23, the LORD is my Shepherd.

Heb.13:7] Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

Remember we are running a race, Heb.12:1. The path is narrow, follow God.

Heb.13:8] Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

The first earth age, this earth age, and the one to come. Three heaven and earth ages repeated here.

Heb.13:9] Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

Beware of false teachers and false churches. Jesus warned us about this in Matthew 24:3-5, and it reads.

Mat.24:3] And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
[4] And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
[5] For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

Back to Heb.13 and verse 10 reads.

Heb.13:10] We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

What was then is now spiritual.

Heb.13:11] For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.
[12] Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

Put out of the city or village gates for sacrifices, Jesus was also taken out of the camp to Golgotha, Calvary, and there they crucified him.

Heb.13:13] Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

Jesus was sacrificed for our sins, he himself was without blemish.

Heb.13:14] For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

Jesus is our true government that we seek.

Heb.13:15] By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Always giving thanks to the Lord, praise the Lord. Hallelujah.

Heb.13:16] But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Communicate with family and friends, this is pleasing to God.

Heb.13:17] Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Obey God, submit to Christ who was sacrificed for us and always do it with joy in your hearts.

Heb.13:18] Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.
[19] But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

Paul is asking not only prayer for himself, but all those imprisoned for teaching the word of God.

Heb.13:20] Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
[21] Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

How great a reward awaits us when our Lord sees our works are for him and not ourselves. All glory is for the Lord.

Heb.13:22] And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.
[23] Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you.

Some scholars think that this means that Timothy is the scribe of this letter, I disagree. It says, Timothy was just released, and when he comes to me I will see you soon. Meaning that Timothy is still enroute.

Heb.13:24] Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you.
Heb.13:25] Grace be with you all. Amen.

All who are with Paul imprisoned for teaching the word of God, they of Italy (Rome) give salutations to you also. A great letter from Paul, in need of all Christians to understand, especially in today’s world. Let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
