This being the Faith chapter, and I having done a study on Faith, (find it in Topical Teachings), today we will teach it verse by verse like we always do. Heb.11 and verse 1 reads.
Heb.11:1] Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
As promised to us by the LORD through the prophets.
Heb.11:2] For by it the elders obtained a good report.
Belief is a personal relationship with God. Don’t tell me you believe a little bit, because belief is from the whole of the heart (mind). These elders are the prophets from righteous Abel to John the Baptist, then through these apostles that witnessed the Lord and all his miracles.
Heb.11:3] Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
A very important verse of the bible, right here lets us know that we have more than one world age. Worlds is ION in the Greek, a length of time.
Heb.11:4] By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
What was it that made Abel righteous? That he gave the best of his flock, he held nothing back from the LORD, but that he gave his best. But how did he speak to the LORD? His blood spoke from the ground, meaning him and all that would have come after him, his prodigy.
Heb.11:5] By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
Enoch, the seventh from Adam, was a prophet (A teacher). And he walked with God and God loved him. Gen.5:21-24.
Heb.11:6] But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Did not God create all for his pleasure. Rev.4:11. But don’t overlook that he rewards us that seek him. Study to show thyself approved.
Heb.11:7] By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
Noah moved with reverence of the LORD, built an Ark. Showing faith, for it was far from any water. Think this is a small thing? Now, what condemnation did Noah give to the people? Noah and his wife, his children and their wives never mixed with the fallen angels. They were the last ones that did not corrupt themselves with them and had the perfect pedigree. They were the only ones left that Christ could come through. We are speaking of Genesis chapter 6.
Heb.11:8] By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
When Abraham left the land of his fathers, and crossed the river Euphrates, being called Hebrew for the first time (those that crossed the river). Not saying Abraham was from middle eastern descent, but being the 14th from Adam, from the Garden. “Eth-Ha-Adam”, from the Hebrew, meaning The Man Adam, that Christ would come through.
Heb.11:9] By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
Did not we learn recently that the heirs can only inherit when the one that wrote the “will” passes away. Not taking away from what was said, but reminding you that all these things happen to them for an example to those of the end times. 1Cor.10:11.
Heb.11:10] For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
This city that comes down from heaven and God will establish his eternal kingdom. And the temple of the LORD is God and the lamb. New Jerusalem. Rev.21:10 and Rev.21:22.
Heb.11:11] Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
Sarah and Abraham both laughed at the thought of having a child in their old age. Hence the name Isaac, which means laughter. Also, Saxon means; sons of Isaac or sons of laughter.
Heb.11:12] Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
[13] These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
[14] For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
[15] And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
[16] But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
This was for Israel, when all tribes of Jacob were together before they separated. This in my opinion became a “like” for America today. 1Cor.10:11 and Isa.18. On our money it says “In God We Trust”. Tell me of another country that declares that so boldly.
Heb.11:17] By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
[18] Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
[19] Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
Right here we see Abraham’s heart, he knew that God would raise him up again. This is why he told his servants “Wait here and we, plural, will return again”. Gen.22:5.
Heb.10:20] By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.
Both received a blessing from Isaac, but God only blessed Jacob.
Heb.11:21] By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.
[22] By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.
Joseph’s sons Ephraim and Manasah received the first fruit’s blessings. This takes away the first fruit’s blessings from Ruben the oldest and gave twice the blessings (twice the inheritance to Joseph’s children). Why? His brothers sold him into bondage, God’s will, and saved them all. This example was for Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Heb.11:23] By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.
This shows that his parents had faith also. Because he was a proper child, he was an Elect, he was chosen. Are your eyes opened to the truth? Can you see, then maybe you also are chosen or an Elect.
Heb.11:24] By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;
[25] Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
We are in the flesh for a little while, but the LORD’s love is for eternity.
Heb.11:26] Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
Don’t think that Moses didn’t know Christ, Emmanuel, God with us. You better believe that he knew him better than most.
Heb.11:27] By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
Moses saw God face to face and lived. Who then could fear any man knowing the LORD sent you.
Heb.11:28] Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
Moses trusted and believed God’s word, and posted the blood on the door post and the death angel passed over. Our first Passover.
Heb.11:29] By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.
With faith Moses knew God had his hands on them and the soldiers that chased them.
Heb.11:30] By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
This faith gives us comfort for these end times, they not only compassed around seven times but also blew the trumpets seven times. This example is the best example for these end times. 1Cor.10:11 from Joshua chapter 6.
Heb.11:31] By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.
[32] And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
I want you to catch that we just went from Genesis through the books of the Kings at this point. How much faith was prepared for us in the Old Testament and brings them into the New Testament.
Heb.11:33] Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
[34] Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
Notice we come into the prophets now, more faith to be learned. I hope you can catch which prophets we are talking about. Take notice of the “Turned to fight the armies of the aliens”. This example is definitely for us today, because we have that gospel armor on to fight for the LORD.
Heb.11:35] Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
Elisha and Elijah both raised children from the dead and gave them back to their mothers. Many being tortured, made Martyrs. For they knew the Lord and knew that this world was of nothing, but the life to come was for eternity.
Heb.11:36] And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
[37] They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
It is written in historical places and not in scripture that Isaiah the prophet was sawn asunder, or did this just say that. Still moving fast through the prophets that Jesus told the Pharisees, “you killed all the prophets from righteous Abel to Zachariah, whom you killed between the porch and the alter”.
Heb.11:38] (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
[39] And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
What we have found in caves, the writings or pictures on the walls. Though they had faith, they did not receive the promise that we have received. This promise is given to the house of Jacob, that through umbilical cord to umbilical cord that Christ would come.
Heb.11:40] God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
Showing us here that only God can arrange the things that contribute to faith. Believing in something unseen yet having faith to know it is True. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
