Let’s begin this lesson with the word Dwelleth. G3306 menō pronounced men’-o. to stay in given; place, state or relation with. To be held, kept, continually. 1. to continue to be, not to perish, to last, endure. When Jesus was asked by Philip show us the Father, Jesus replied in John 14 and verse 8 reads.

John 14:8] Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
[9] Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

Simply put, Emmanuel, God with us. Knowing that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are one gives us the trinity. Don’t be surprised to find out even the most intelligent people cannot come to terms with that statement. But, in today’s lesson we will understand without a doubt, that the three are one.

John 14:10] Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

We have our first statement, dwelleth. First note that Jesus uses his Holy name, I Am. Declaring himself as Father, or YAHAVEH. God does the miracles and fulfills the prophets and law.

John 14:11] Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

Those miracles that I just spoke of, Jesus is teaching that the Father dwells in him and that he dwells in the Father. Listen closely to what is being said here.

John 14:12] Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

He said, Truly, truly. Those who believe on him will do the same and even greater works. This is very important, this statement comes with the promise of the Holy Spirit for those of us who call ourselves after his name, Christians.

John 14:13] And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
[14] If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

A wise man once said, “God will provide the bricks, but you must do the work.” If you ask for anything in the name of Jesus Christ he will give it to you. We always end our prayers “In Jesus’s precious name” for this very reason. It gives us credentials that we are his.

John 14:15] If ye love me, keep my commandments.

If you love me, keep my laws. Never let someone tell you we are not under law anymore, they are liars. Jesus just told us we must keep his laws, it’s how we show we love him.

John 14:16] And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

This word Abide is also G3306 Meno. Same as Dwelleth. Do not overlook Comforter, uppercase C meaning the Holy Spirit. What we have here is; The Father giving in place of the Son, the Holy Spirit. Jesus being God with us (Emmanuel) in the flesh, will go back to heaven to be God the Father. But, promising to leave us his Holy Spirit to dwell within us in his place. This is important to understand, he is speaking of abiding with us forever, not just here on earth.

John 14:17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
[18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

With great compassion He, Jesus, will come and dwell within us forever. There could be no greater love than a man that lay down his life for a friend. We see here in John 14 that there are no differences between the Father and the Son for they are the same. Wherever the two are, there is the Holy Spirit. This is called the Triune Godhead or the Trinity. The three are One. Let’s back up in John to chapter 6, Jesus was speaking about him being that Bread of Life and he had this to say. Verse 55 reads.

John 6:55] For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

Our sacraments are examples made from his body and his blood.

John 6:56] He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
[57] As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.

When we consume his body (unleavened bread) and his blood (wine) we make a communion with him and he dwells within us. Now, let’s go to Romans where Paul is teaching us how this comes to be. Rom.8 and verse 4 reads.

Rom.8:4] That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Uppercase S for the Holy Spirit. Walking after the Spirit fulfills the righteousness of the law. Nowhere will you find we are not under law in God’s word.

Rom.8:5] For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
[6] For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

That Comforter that was promised, dwells in us forever.

Rom.8:7] Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
[8] So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
[9] But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Here we have the Spirit of Christ, the Holy Spirit, and where two are there is the other also. The Trinity as reflected by “he is none of his.” The “his” is God the Father.

Rom.8:10] And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Because of the law of righteousness our spirit lives by his Spirit.

Rom.8:11] But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Are you seeing the Trinity here. The Holy Spirit of him (the Father) who raised up Jesus. Then we come to “by his (Jesus) Spirit (the Holy Spirit) that dwelleth in us. There is no better chapter in the bible that can explain the trinity better than here. But, let’s look closer at what was said in between. It said that Christ would quicken (make alive) your mortal bodies (souls). We have two bodies, one of flesh the other spirit, but the soul which is in your spiritual body rests also within the flesh while we are in the flesh. I want to also look at this word Dwelleth here in verse 11. It is G1774 enoikeō pronounced en-oy-keh’-o. to inhabit (figuratively). 1. to dwell in. 2. metaph. to dwell in one and influence him (for good). From the root of G3611 oikeō pronounced oy-key’-o. to occupy a house that is reside. by implication to cohabit. 1. to dwell in. Root for G1774.

Rom.8:12] Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
[13] For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
[14] For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Saying here that those of us with the Spirit of God within our spirits are now called sons of God. Notice here it said “the Spirit (Holy Spirit) of God (the Father) this time, before it was the Spirit of Christ. I hope the trinity is now within you if it wasn’t before. Ezekiel chapters 40-48 are all in the millennium, the word Dwell here is H7931 shâkan pronounced shaw-kan’. And means; to reside or permanently stay. Let’s go to Eze.43 and verse 7 reads.

Eze.43:7] And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places.

This, being in the millennium, is Jesus Christ. And the seventh trump has sounded and Christ will dwell with us.

Eze.43:8] In their setting of their threshold by my thresholds, and their post by my posts, and the wall between me and them, they have even defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have committed: wherefore I have consumed them in mine anger.

Heb.12:29] For God is a consuming fire.

Many will not repent, they and the serpent’s seed along with the seven thousand fallen angels are consumed at the beginning of the millennium. At the seventh trump.

Eze.43:9] Now let them put away their whoredom, and the carcases of their kings, far from me, and I will dwell in the midst of them for ever.

Christ and the Holy Spirit will dwell forever with us from this point on. But the Father will be absent until after the millennium, because no sin may stand before him. Let’s go to Rev.21 and finish this lesson with verse 1 and it reads.

Rev.21:1] And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

We will enter into the third heaven and earth age, the millennium is over now. No more sea, simply means no more flesh. For all flesh was done away with at the seventh trump.

Rev.21:2] And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Now the Father joins us here on earth. Why would anyone want to fly away when the Father will be joining us here on earth.

Rev.21:3] And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

This word Dwell is G4637 skēnoō pronounced skay-no’-o. And means; to tent or encamp that is (figuratively) to occupy (as a mansion) or (specifically) to reside (as God did in the Tabernacle of old as a symbol for protection and communion). Don’t overlook Communion, we’ll talk about that in a minute.

Rev.21:4] And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
[5] And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
[6] And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
[7] He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Knowing that we have three heaven and earth ages gives us an advantage over most. Combine that knowledge with the knowledge of the Trinity and we come to the understanding that God has dwelled with us from the beginning. For you see, we were with God just before he placed our spirit into the flesh at conception. And because he also became flesh, Emmanuel, he has left us his Holy Spirit to dwell with us while we are here in the flesh through communion of his body (Our Daily Bread) and of his blood (The blood of the Passover Lamb). The bread and wine that are our sacraments gives us communion with the LORD while in this earth age, in the flesh. GOD the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit will and have dwelled with us forever and ever. Let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
