It is my hope that all heads of households read this lesson with their families, and take the Communion following this Passover study. Please have your sacraments ready for Communion. A saltine cracker will suffice for the unleavened bread and a small amount of red wine or grape juice (keeping it from the vine) will do.

We will be studying in today’s lesson what is the Passover and why, as Christians do we observe the Passover. Let’s go to Exodus 12 where we find the first Passover, and how it received its name. The LORD speaking to Moses, Exo.12 and verse 1 reads.

Exo.12:1] And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
[2] This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.

This month is called Abib and it begins at the spring equinox. It should not be called Nisan, as Nisan is Babylonian, and only called Nisan after the captivity in Babylon when the children of Judah had lost their Hebrew tongue.

Exo.12:3] Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:

Separate the lamb from the flock on the tenth day. Remember the day began at sundown the night before. Some say this was done so that they wouldn’t lose the one that was marked for Passover, as a lamb could travel far in a short amount of time. Some others would say they did this to fatten the lamb. I couldn’t find in God’s Word the reason, so anything would be pure speculation. However, I found in Joshua 4:19 the people came out of the Jordan and crossed into the promised land on the tenth day of the first month.

Exo.12:4] And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.

For small families, invite another family to join your house, for the Passover lamb is too valuable to waste as it is a sacrifice to the LORD.

Exo.12:5] Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:

Let it be the best of your flock.

Exo.12:6] And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.

Very important here to remember that the day began at sundown the night before. Jesus would become our Passover, called the Lamb of God.

Exo.12:7] And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.

This is why we anoint our door post to keep out all evil from our homes. Jesus gave us power over all our enemies in Luke 10:19, make sure you use in the name of Jesus Christ as you order all evil from your house. Christ means; The Anointed One.

Exo.12:8] And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.

Leaven represents sin, keep all sin out of your houses.

Exo.12:9] Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.

Sodden is boiled. With fire because it is a sacrifice to the LORD. This word purtenance is H7130 qereb pronounced keh’-reb, and means; c. entrails (of sacrificial animals).

Exo.12:10] And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
[11] And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’s passover.

Prepare yourselves to leave in haste, this would be the tenth plague given to Egypt, they would be leaving in the morning.

Exo.12:12] For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
[13] And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

The LORD will Passover your house when he sees the blood on the door post. This is why we anoint our homes and send all evil that may be inside our homes back to the Father. Do not overlook God will smite all the firstborn of every house that has not the blood of the lamb on the door post. This will cause Pharoh to let God’s children go.

Exo.12:14] And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

Forever. This became the High Sabbath, one of three, The Passover, The Feast of Weeks (Pentecost) and The Feast of Tabernacles. These two, the Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles, were two weeks each. And Israel would come to Jerusalem from all around the world to keep this tradition that the LORD would say “Keep it a feast by ordinance forever.” And we will do the LORD’s Word as well. Let’s drop down to verse 25 and it reads.

Exo.12:25] And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.
[26] And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
[27] That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the LORD’s passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.

Being delivered out of Egypt by the hand of the LORD. Now let’s go to 1Corinthians 5 and verse 4 reads

1Cor.5:4] In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

When we come together (and our spirits are together now in this study) to celebrate the Passover, the power of his Spirit is with us.

1Cor.5:5] To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Jesus is our Savior, The Redeemer of our souls. The wine represents his blood on the cross, the unleavened bread represents his body without sin, with whose stripes we are healed. Exo.12:5 the Lamb without blemish.

1Cor.5:6] Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

This leaven is sin. A little sin corrupts a family or a whole church.

1Cor.5:7] Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

Christ is our Passover and not our easter. Easter (Ishtar) is grove worship. She is mythology, she is the Queen of heaven in Jeremiah 44 and we saw how that went for Judah. It was the reason God sent them into captivity. Passover is supposed to represent God delivering his children out of captivity, not into captivity. Purge out, repent of your sins before we partake of the Passover.

1Cor.5:8] Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Keep leaven, Sin, out of your house during the Passover. Be careful, sin can come through the television or more so the internet. This Passover Lamb was promised to Abraham. Let’s go to Genesis 22 and verse 1 reads.

Gen.22:1] And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
[2] And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
[3] And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.
[4] Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

Catch the third day.

Gen.22:5] And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you,

Don’t overlook Abraham said “I and the lad will come again to you.” This is great faith.

Gen.22:6] And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
[7] And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
[8] And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

With faith Abraham said God would provide himself a lamb. This would prove that Isaac also had faith.

Gen.22:9] And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
[10] And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
[11] And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
[12] And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

This word fearest is H3373 yârêʼ pronounced yaw-ray’ and means; morally reverent, to revere, to love. Let’s read it that way; I know that you love me, said God to Abraham.

Gen.22:13] And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
[14] And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

This Mount Moriah you might know as Golgotha. The place that Jesus Christ was crucified. The LORD promised to provide the Lamb, his only begotten Son, because Abraham had faith. Do you? Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God? That they crucified him on the cross and on the third day he rose again? Jesus is our Passover, his blood shed on the cross for once and all time, no more sacrifices. Let’s go to James (Greek for Jacob) and see about Abraham’s faith. James 2 and verse 20 reads.

James 2:20] But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
[21] Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
[22] Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
[23] And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
[24] Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

He quoted Isaiah 41:8 here when he said Friend of God. Don’t overlook it is by our works we are justified. Both Abraham and Isaac showed great faith but that they obeyed the Word of God was their works wrought. Now let’s go to Matthew 5 and verse 17 reads.

Mat.5:17] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Never let anyone say to you we are not under law anymore. Jesus came to fulfill the law and prophets. The only part of the law done away with is the blood ordinances, again because he fulfilled them. We do not sacrifice anymore, but we do honor the Passover, for he said forever.

Mat.5:18] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
[19] Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Do and teach them, the laws, shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Passover is the high sabbath, it is not the day of the week that was given for rest. Though Christ being our Passover we rest in him. And anyone that does not rest in our Lord, has no rest. When Jesus was crucified, he was crucified on the day before Passover, this would be before sunset on Wednesday. Making the Tuesday night the time of his trial, being illegal in the Hebrew law. Now, Jesus being crucified on Wednesday must have been put in the tomb by sundown. Wednesday sundown to Thursday sundown, one day. Thursday sundown to Friday sundown, two days. Friday sundown to Saturday sundown, three days. Then sometime during the night he rose from the dead. Saturday was the weekly sabbath, this is why Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came on the first day of the week, Sunday, to anoint the body of Jesus. Mat.28:1. Before we continue with our communion, take time now to repent of all of your sins.

Preparation of the Sacraments.

Now let’s prepare the sacraments for Communion. A soda cracker will do for the unleavened bread. A small amount of wine, grape juice for the children is ok, keep it of the vine. I hold both in one hand, and place my other hand over them both and speak to the LORD.

Father, bless these sacraments for the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Communion

For Communion we will let our Lord and Savior do the talking. Let’s go to Matthew 26 and verse 26 reads.

Mat.26:26] And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

We take the bread now and eat all of it.

Mat.26:27] And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
[28] For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

We take the cup and we drink all of it.

This is our Communion with the Lord, you may take this Communion whenever you feel. We here at The Christ Ministries will do this three times a year, but whenever you feel you need to, never hesitate, take of the Communion again. Let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
