Today in Isaiah we will see a lot in the New Testament of his prophecies being fulfilled by Jesus Christ. I want you to know what has happened will happen again, this is the Spirit of prophecy. Isaiah 53 and verse 1 reads.
Isa.53:1] Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
First, report is doctrine. Now, to whom is it revealed, to his Elect, that’s who it is revealed to. You and me, as well as to those in the days that Jesus walked among them. Let’s go to John 12 and pick it up with verse 37, and it reads.
John 12:37] But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
[38] That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
[39] Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
[40] He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
This was written in Isa.6:10.
John 12:41] These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
[42] Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
[43] For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
[44] Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
[45] And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
We also read in Romans 10 and verse 16 reads.
Rom.10:16] But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
[17] So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
[18] But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
[19] But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
[20] But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.
[21] But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
Even when Christ was with them, they could not see that it was the Son of God with them, Emmanuel, God with us. But those who could see, even they would not admit it for fear of man. This is the perfect example for us in these end times to put our trust in God and not man. Jer.17:5-7. Back to Isa.53 and verse 2 reads.
Isa.53:2] For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
Many people have mistranslated this verse to mean that Jesus was not a handsome man. That could not be further from the truth. This is saying that he was indeed very beautiful, a handsome man. Let’s first look at Form, H8389 tôʼar pronounced to’-ar. And means; figure or appearance. 1. shape, form, outline, figure, appearance, + {beautiful}. Then we have Comeliness, H1926 hâdâr pronounced haw-dawr’. And means; {magnificence} that {is} ornament or splendor. 1. ornament, splendour, honour. a. ornament. b. splendour, majesty. c. honour, glory.
{beauty} comeliness} excellency} glorious} glory} {goodly} {honour} majesty. What I have just given you comes directly from the Strongs’ Concordance. What is said in verse 2 is Jesus is beautiful and full of the Shechinah Glory that is the very presence of Yah-o-veh. Back to Isa.53 and verse 3 reads.
Isa.53:3] He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
First let’s go to Psalms 22, The Psalm of the crucifixion, and verse 6 reads.
Psa.22:6] But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
Now let’s go to Matthew 27 and see this prophecy come to pass. Mat.27 and verse 30 reads.
Mat.27:30] And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
[31] And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
Now this prophecy being said in many places in the Old Testament was spoken of Jesus in Mat.26 and verse 31 reads.
Mat.26:31] Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
So where was that written? Let’s go to Zec.13 and verse 7 reads.
Zec.13:7] Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.
O sword, the sword of the LORD is his tongue, the Word of God. Rev.1:16. This is why Jesus would say “It is written”. The question is have you read? This is why we here at thechristministries.org will teach the whole Word of God. For understanding the New, you must know the Old. Back to Isa.53 and verse 4 reads.
Isa.53:4] Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
First it was allowed, not smitten of God. It was written and what is written will happen exactly as written, because it is the Word of God. Let’s go to Mat.8 and verse 17 reads.
Mat.8:16] When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
[17] That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
This is why we study the whole Word of God. Back to Isa.53 and verse 5 reads.
Isa.53:5] But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Here we have the first prophecy in God’s word. Gen.3 and verse 15 reads.
Gen.3:15] And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Very important to understand the two seeds, the woman and the serpents. They bruised his heel when they nailed them to the cross. Let’s go to 1Pet.1 and verse 24 reads.
1Pet.1:24] Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
[25] For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
Back to Isa.53 and verse 6 reads.
Isa.53:6] All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Our sins were laid on him, the Passover Lamb, that through repentance all may be forgiven. God did this for us, his plan from the beginning. Let’s go to Psalms 119 and verse 174 reads.
Psa.119:174] I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.
[175] Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me.
[176] I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.
Never let anyone tell you we are not under law anymore. Here in Isaiah we are learning that prophecy and law go hand in hand. Let’s never forget what Jesus told us in Mat.5 and verse 17 reads.
Mat.5:17] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
[18] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
[19] Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus fulfilled the law and the prophets and we are reading them now here in Isaiah as well in other books. Back to Isa.53 and verse 7 reads.
Isa.53:7] He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
You can find Jesus fulfilling this in the gospels. Mat.26:63, Mat.27:12-13, Luke 23:9, John 19:9, Mark 15:3. But I want to go to Acts 8 and pick it up with Philip and the eunuch. Acts 8 and verse 27 reads.
Acts 8:27] And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
[28] Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
[29] Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
[30] And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
[31] And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
[32] The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
[33] In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
[34] And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
[35] Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
Now this is why we went there, the very scriptures that we are reading now is what a gentile was reading when the LORD sent Philip to show him it is Jesus who is being spoken about. Keep this in mind as we finish Isaiah. Back to Isa.53 and verse 8 reads.
Isa.53:8] He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
This is Jesus Christ, written here in the Old Testament, teach this. For our sins, he was crucified. That on repentance we should have Salvation. Prophesied about 600 years before it ever happened. It is you and me that shall declare his generation, God’s elect will stand and be delivered up to Satan.
Isa.53:9] And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
Because he did no violence, and never lied but spoke only the truth could he be buried in a rich man’s tomb. This tomb would be from his great uncle Joseph of Arimathea. With the wicked, between two malefactors on either side of his cross. Prophesied here in Isaiah again about 600 years before it ever happened. Let’s go to the 1John 3 and verse 4 reads.
1John 3:4] Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
[5] And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
Jesus did not die on the cross full of our sins, but rather because of our sins. Remember 1Pet.2, let’s back up to verse 21 and read it again.
1Pet.2:21] For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
[22] Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
[23] Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
[24] Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
[25] For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
Back to Isa.53 and verse 10 reads.
Isa.53:10] Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
God’s plan from the beginning of this earth age, when all had to come through the flesh, was strictly for Salvation to all his children. And this pleases the LORD that he had done this. God’s Word is amazing when we can put it together from the beginning to the end. Back to Isa.53 and verse 11 reads.
Isa.53:11] He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
The Lamb of God shed his blood for all to come to repentance. Jesus Christ is his righteous servant, and because he bared our sins, we are justified. Let’s go to Acts 13 and verse 38 reads.
Acts 13:38] Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
[39] And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
Blood was needed for the sin sacrifice. Jesus became that once and for all time. The blood ordinances are the only law done away with. Let’s go to 2Pet.3 and verse 9 reads.
2Pet.3:9] The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Back to Isa.53 and verse 12 reads.
Isa.53:12] Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Even that malefactor on the cross beside him believed, and was promised by Jesus that that day he would see him in heaven. Let’s go to Mark 15 and verse 28 reads.
Mark 15:28] And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.
I hope by today’s study you can understand Jesus fulfilled prophecy, and that Jesus is the Living Word. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
