Today’s lesson is titled The Suffering of the Lord’s Servant. Isaiah 50 and verse 1 reads.

Isa.50:1] Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother’s divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.

The LORD speaking says I never sold you, you sold yourselves into captivity by your sins. But, what about this divorcement? Let’s go to Jeremiah 3 and verse 8 reads.

Jer.3:8] And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

Adultery is given here for Idolatry. Having false gods and falling away from the true God. Let’s now go to Hosea, Hos.2 and verse 2 reads.

Hos.2:2] Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;
[3] Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.
[4] And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.

In the end times many will fall away and worship the antichrist thinking he is the true Christ. But God will use his elect to bring his children back to him. Back to Isa.50 and verse 2 reads.

Isa.50:2] Wherfore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst.

God is saying here that he came to his children, by way of prophets and the law. It is written he would come in the flesh for Salvation. (Isaiah 7:14) The LORD came and redeemed the world by his blood on the cross, that through repentance all sins are forgiven and exist no more. The LORD did this with a mighty hand. Let’s go to Isaiah 65 and verse 12 reads.

Isa.65:12] Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not.

Speaking of those who refuse to hear his Word, as well as the apostacy in the end times.

Isa.65:13] Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:
[14] Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.
[15] And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name:
[16] That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes.

The LORD is very clear here that some will serve him, and others will serve the antichrist. The LORD had this conversation with the people of Israel back in the book of Joshua, let’s go to Josh.24 and verse 14 reads.

Josh.24:14] Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.
[15] And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

So we see here that many of the children of God have had the habit of worshipping other gods and falling away from the True God for many years. But, studying his Word brings us back to him. Back to Isaiah 50 and verse 3 reads.

Isa.50:3] I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering.

The LORD brings upon them shame. Their nakedness shows. Remember Isaiah 47 and verse 3 reads.

Isa.47:3] Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.
[4] As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.

And speaking to the church of Laodiceans in Revelation 3 verse 18 reads.

Rev.3:17] Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
[18] I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

The LORD God is our Redeemer, our Savior. Turning to him and consuming his Word will open your eyes to truth that no one could ever take away from you. Back to Isaiah 50 and verse 4 reads.

Isa.50:4] The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

A very interesting verse, let’s break it down. The first part of this verse tells us that it is the LORD that gives us his Word to speak at an appointed time. whether it be for teaching, preaching, or lifting up a fellow man with spiritual strength for their weakness in the world. We know that in the end times his elect will be delivered up to Satan to give our testimonies of Jesus Christ. The second part of this verse lets us know that he will open the eyes of the elect that studies his word every day, hence, morning by morning. And finishes with; opens our eyes and ears to be his elect. Opening our eyes brings shame, and shame brings repentance. Once we return back to the Father and we repent, then we can serve him knowing he dwells within us.

Isa.50:5] The Lord GOD hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.

Now Isaiah is giving us his example, we should heed his love for the LORD. Come to the LORD, he calls us to him. Let’s go to Psalms 40 and verse 6 reads.

Psa.40:6] Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
[7] Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
[8] I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

Jesus himself prayed to the Father and left all for the Father’s will. Let’s go to Mat.26 and verse 39 reads.

Mat.26:39] And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

Jesus would also tell us in John 14 the importance of doing God’s will. John 14 and verse 31 reads.

John 14:31] But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

Even Emmanuel (God with us) knows that it is for the Father’s will we do his works. He will open eyes and he will shut eyes. Be a doer of his commandments, read and learn his commandments and receive his blessings while here in the flesh as we do his works. Back to Isa.50 and verse 6 reads.

Isa.50:6] I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

This is the LORD speaking of himself when they would crucify him on the cross. Let’s go to Mat.26 and verse 67 reads.

Mat.26:67] Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,
[68] Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

Can you imagine when those who did this faced him in heaven? Back to Isa.50 and verse 7 reads.

Isa.50:7] For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit will dwell within us as we serve him. This is called the Comforter that he promised to leave with us. Christ is our example, read his word and you won’t be ashamed.

Isa.50:8] He is near that justifieth me; who will contend with me? let us stand together: who is mine adversary? let him come near to me.

Never be afraid to be one of God’s elect, let’s go to Romans 8 and verse 30 reads.

Rom.8:30] Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Talking about God’s elect here, predestinated in the first earth age. Called to be his servants in this earth age. Justified (judged) already in his glory.

Rom.8:31] What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
[32] He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
[33] Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.

Never fear for God is with us. Back to Isa.50 and verse 9 reads.

Isa.50:9] Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who is he that shall condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up.

To wax old is to grow old.

Isa.50:10] Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.

This word feareth is H3373 yârêʼ pronounced yaw-ray’. And means; reverence or love. The voice of his servant (Christ) is the Word of God. This word “stay” is rest. We rest or sabbath in the LORD. Let’s go to Psalms 23 and verse 1 reads.

Psa.23:1] The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
[2] He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
[3] He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
[4] Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
[5] Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
[6] Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

We serve the LORD with no fear of man, for the LORD is with us. Back to Isa.50 and verse 11 reads.

Isa.50:11] Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.

But for those who don’t serve the LORD, remember this. Hebrews 12 and verse 29 reads.

Heb.12:29] For our God is a consuming fire.

And Psalms 16 and verse 4 reads.

Psa.16:4] Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.

Written for those who won’t serve the LORD, they will never understand it was written for them. Jesus taught us after he healed the blind man this in John 9 and verse 39 reads.

John 9:39] And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
[40] And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
[41] Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

We find that Jesus was indeed the Servant of the LORD, as an example for us to serve also. We will serve with no fear of man, but with reverence to the LORD. Another great chapter here in Isaiah, let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
