Today in Isaiah 40 we have verses 1-11 are Comfort through trust in the LORD. And 12-end is The majesty of the LORD. Isaiah 40 and verse 1 reads.
Isa.40:1] Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
[2] Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’s hand double for all her sins.
Speaking here of Mystery Babylon. The whole world whores after her, this one world order. Verse two said her iniquity is pardoned. Let’s see Rev.18 and verse 1 reads.
Rev.18:1] And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
[2] And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
[3] For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
[4] And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
Here in verse 4 is where Isa.40:2 was speaking of, God’s children, come out of her and your iniquity shall be forgiven. Remember the LORD has blinded some for their own sakes. It will be that hard during the sixth trump. But what of this double? Let’s continue.
Rev.18:5] For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
[6] Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
[7] How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
[8] Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
She will get double for her sins, and will be consumed with fire. Heb.12:29. Back to Isa.40 and verse 3 reads.
Isa.40:3] The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
You have heard this verse repeated often in God’s word, well here it is in Isaiah 40:3. This is the verse that is written in the New Testament in many places. This is the prophecy of John the Baptist preparing the way for Christ. John 1:19-26 is a very good read, also in Luke 3:3-4. But I want to go to Mat.3:1-6 and it reads.
Mat.3:1] In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
[2] And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
[3] For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
[4] And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
[5] Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
[6] And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
And Mark 1 verse 2 reads.
Mark 1:2] As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
[3] The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
[4] John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
Baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. John the Baptist prepared the way for Christ to come into our hearts. Back to Isaiah speaking for the coming of the LORD. Isa.40 and verse 4 reads.
Isa.40:4] Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
Verse 3 was for the first advent, this verse was for the future of even now, for the second advent. All valleys brought up and all mountains brought low, they shall be leveled out.
Isa.40:5] And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
We just read both advents, the first and the second. Let’s go to Zec.9 and read both of the advents. Zec.9 and verse 9 reads.
Zec.9:9] Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
That was the first advent, Salvation came into the world riding on an ass. Now the second advent.
Zec.9:10] And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from river even to the ends of the earth.
The King comes back as a man of war. Back to Isa.40 and verse 6 reads.
Isa.40:6] The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
Let’s first go to 1Pet.1:24 and it reads.
1Pet.1:24] For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
[25] But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
Now let’s go to James 1 and verse 10 reads.
James 1:10] But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
See why we study both the Old and the New Testaments, how can one understand the New without the Old. Also, remember many critics say Isaiah didn’t write the book of Isaiah from chapter 40 on, but we have already read how they were quoting him by name.
Isa.40:7] The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
[8] The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
The people are the grass being spoken of here. What this is saying is that all flesh shall be changed. Let’s go to 1Cor.15 and verse 50 reads.
1Cor.15:50] Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
[51] Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
We will have some here in the flesh when Jesus returns.
1Cor.15:52] In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
All who are here in the flesh shall be changed into our spiritual bodies. It is over, and the millennium has begun. Back to Isa.40 and verse 9 reads.
Isa.40:9] O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
[10] Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
[11] He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
Great is his compassion for his children, great is his wrath for those who won’t repent. Now we come to the majesty of the LORD.
Isa.40:12] Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
[13] Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counseller hath taught him?
The answer is Nobody. One tried, Satan, and he received the death penalty. Let’s go to Rom.11 and verse 32 reads.
Rom.11:32] For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
[33] O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
[34] For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counseller?
[35] Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
[36] For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
But know this, God has given to some only what He wants them to know. Let’s go to 1Cor.2 and verse 9 reads.
1Cor.2:9] But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
[10] But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
[11] For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
[12] Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
[13] Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
[14] But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
When the LORD opens the eyes of his elect, it is purposely given for a reason.
1Cor.2:15] But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
[16] For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
Only the Father is judge. For only he knows all things. Back to Isa.40 and verse 14 reads.
Isa.40:14] With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?
Absolutely nobody.
Isa.40:15] Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
God spoke and nothing became everything. He will speak again, and somethings will become nothing.
Isa.40:16] And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
How important is it to read the prophets with understanding? Let’s go to Hos.6 and verse 5 reads.
Hos.6:5] Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.
[6] For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
For love is all he desired from us, not burnt sacrifices, but knowledge of his Word. Back to Isa.40 and verse 17 reads.
Isa.40:17] All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
The flesh is temporal, this earth age will be as nothing and the third earth age will be spiritual and forever. Let’s go to Psalms 62 and verse 9 reads.
Psa.62:9] Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.
[10] Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.
[11] God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.
[12] Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.
Our works are the only thing we can take with us to heaven. Back to Isa.40 and verse 18 reads.
Isa.40:18] To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?
For those who think that they can whittle a god out of wood or stone beware.
Isa.40:19] The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.
[20] He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, that shall not be moved.
[21] Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
Do you not understand the foundations of the earth, do you not know we have three earth and heaven ages. This earth age shall pass, and there be but one left, and all things will be righteous that is left. Let’s go to Eph.1 and verse 4 reads.
Eph.1:4] According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
[5] Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
Let’s now go to Jer.1 and verse 4 reads.
Jer.1:4] Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
[5] Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
God knew Jeremiah before he ever formed him in the belly. He knew you also, you see we were with him before conception, and God created all of us long ago in the first earth age. But it was Satan that took a third of God’s children from him, and we have this earth age to come in the flesh to see if we are going to follow God or Satan. Back to Isa.40 and verse 22 reads.
Isa.40:22] It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
This word circle is a compass, Paul was asked “Why do you kick against the pricks”. It throws everything out of whack when you kick against the LORD’s plan.
Isa.40:23] That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
[24] Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.
I believe here he is talking to the fallen angels, they will not see flesh, they will all be burned up like kindling at the seventh trump. There will be no millennium for them.
Isa.40:25] To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
[26] Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
Let’s go to Col.1 and verse 15 reads.
Col.1:15] Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
[16] For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
[17] And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Now let’s go to Revelation 4 and verse 11 reads.
Rev.4:11] Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
And to finish let’s go to John 1 and verse 1 reads.
John 1:1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[2] The same was in the beginning with God.
[3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
All things were made for his pleasure. The question is, do you please him? Back to Isa.40 and verse 27 reads.
Isa.40:27] Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
Do not think for a minute your ways are hidden from the LORD. Remember our works are the only thing we can take with us to heaven. God will judge us for our works.
Isa.40:28] Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
As Jesus would always say, haven’t you read.
Isa.40:29] He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Let’s go to Phi.4 and verse 13 reads.
Phi.4:13] I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
The LORD is our strength, you can count on him. Put your trust in God and not man. Jer.17:5-7. Back to Isa.40 and verse 30 reads.
Isa.40:30] Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
[31] But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Notice it says Wait upon the LORD. Do not be deceived and fly away to the first one who calls himself Christ, he is the antichrist. We will wait for the seventh trump. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
