John 14, is the most powerful chapter in Gods’ word to me. it shows that God the Father and Jesus the Christ are one. Let’s get started and verse 1 reads.
John 14:1] Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
For whomsoever believes on me will have everlasting life. John 3:16. This everlasting is from the beginning of the first earth age through eternity.
John 14:2] In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
This word “mansions” is G3438 in the Strongs'(mone) and means to abode, to dwell in. But I like the 3rd. definition it gives, 3. metaph. of the God the Holy Spirit indwelling believers. “The God the Holy Spirit”. These two are also one. Add Jesus Christ and you have the Trinity. The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. All are one.
John 14:3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Upon our death and resurrection we too shall be with the Father. But if not in Christ then we are on the other side of the gulf. Luke 16. This answers John 13:37.
John:4] And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
What is this “Way”? It is his Word, his Law. And we will find that Gods’ intentions from the beginning was for all, not just Israel to come to him. Let’s go to 2 Chronicles chapter 6 beginning with verse 30 and it reads.
2Chr.6:30] Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)
[31] That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.
[32] Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;
Those outstretch saving arms of Jesus Christ.
2Chr.6:33] Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.
And just to understand exactly what Jesus was talking about let’s go to Psa.145:17 and it reads.
Psa.145:17] The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.
Back to John and verse 5 reads.
John :5] Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
[6] Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jesus is the Living Word. And by his word we come to him.
John7] If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
[8] Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
If you have seen Me you have seen the Father. Emmanuel, God with us. John 1:1 and 1:14. The Word was with God and the Word was God, and the Word became flesh and walked among us.
John 14:9] Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
This chapter in John teaches that God and Jesus are one. And whenever you have the two you have the Holy Spirit. Now, we can understand that when Jesus is in us, so is the Father. And comfort ourselves that the Holy Spirit is in us also.
John 14:10] Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
The miracles. This word dwelleth is Menos G3306 and is the primary verb to G3438.
John 14:11] Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
[12] Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Greater works than these? To those that didn’t witness the miracles and still believe on the Son, are a greater gift to the Father.
John 14:13] And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
[14] If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
We always ask “in the name of Jesus” because it gives our credentials to the Father that we “believe on Him”.
John 14:15] If ye love me, keep my commandments.
This is his “ways”.
John 14:16] And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
[17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
This is the Holy Spirit, He gave it on the Pentecost day, 50 days after his crucifixion. Acts 1.
John 14:18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
[19] Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
This is the promise of resurrection. Now, pay attention this is very important.
John 14:20] At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
[21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
What this is saying is that both the Father, and the Son dwell (G3438) within us. And if they dwell within us, then all those that have passed away that are with the Father, are also within us. Let this comfort you and those that you love with this scripture.
John 14:22] Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
[23] Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
Keeping his commandments, very important to do his word. This word “abode” is the same as dwell.
John 14:24] He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
[25] These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
[26] But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
And this is for you today. Bring to remembrance the truth of Gods word. He will open doors that nobody can shut. In other words, he will give you truth that no man can take away from you once you know them.
John 14:27] Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
[28] Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
[29] And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.
Speaking of his death and resurrection. He told his disciples that they might believe. Are you his disciple also?
John 14:30] Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
This is what Jesus was talking about in John chapter 9. Let’s go to verse 4-5 and read.
John 9:4] I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
[5] As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Remember Jesus is the Day, the Light and Satan is the Night, the darkness. Gen.1:5.
[31] But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
And he would be gone for about 2,000 years. And we “DO” his will. and we plant his seeds. And we pray for the day that he returns to come. “Come, Lord Jesus come.” Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
