John 12 and verse 1 reads.

John 12:1] Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
[2] There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.

Six days before they crucify him. Martha, Mary, and Lazarus are brother and sisters.

John 12:3] Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

OK, let’s understand it’s in his name. Jesus Christ. Jesus, G2424 from H3091, Yah’s Savior. 1. Jesus, the Son of God, the Savior of mankind, God incarnate. Christ, Christos- G5547, 1. to anoint. To rub with anointing oil. Jesus Christ, Yah’s Savior, the anointed One. We are Christians, we are to anoint one another for healing.

John 12:4] Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him,
[5] Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
[6] This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.

Some would come from the disciples, some from the multitude. But the fact that he was a thief, and that he would betray him is not what it seems. Jesus would allow Satan to enter into him in order to fulfill prophecy.

John 12:7] Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
[8] For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.

Some call Jesus a socialist, this could not be further from the truth. In these days the church took care of the poor, the widow, and the fatherless. Not the government.

John 12:9] Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

Needing proof of his miracles, they came to see Lazarus. And then would believe. John 3:16, “whom soever will believe”.

John 12:10] But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
[11] Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

Now Lazarus was our example that the church would have new leaders, one’s that would teach truth and not traditions of men. For this reason, they wanted to kill Lazarus also. Remember these are Kenites among the Jews.

John 12:12] On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

This is now five days before the crucifixion. Five days before the Passover.

John 12:13] Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna, save now. from H3467 in the Hebrew. This was written a thousand years before by King David. Psalms 118:24-26 and it reads.

Psa.118:24] This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
[25] Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.
[26] Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.

Back to John and verse 14 reads.

John 12:14] And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
[15] Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.

Where is this written? Let’s go to Zech.9:9 and read.

Zec.9:9] Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

This would be for the first advent, the second is in Zec.9:10. Back to John and verse 16 reads.

John 12:16] These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.

Pertaining to eyes being opened.

John 12:17] The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.

Those that were there for the sisters and comforted them, they were witness and told them that came that it was true, he was dead and now lives.

John 12:18] For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.
[19] The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.

They know they are losing a lot of people out of their synagogues. And they know where they are going.

John 12:20] And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:

Many people came from all over the world for the Passover. All being of the twelve tribes of Israel.

John 12:21] The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
[22] Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
[23] And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
[24] Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

This is awesome that Jesus brings into a simple understanding of the corn. When you plant corn, the kernel must die (rot) in the ground. Then, and only then can it bring forth the plant. The plant therefore brings more corn, and there you have much more corn from one kernel. This is how we plant seeds, the word of God. Jesus must die for all to have salvation. Heb.2:14 reads.

Heb.2:14] Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

That was a parable of resurrection. Back to John and verse 25 reads.

John 12:25] He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

We are not of this world but must come through this world.

John 12:26] If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

Many of us have “As for me and my family we shall serve the Lord.” But, in Joshua 24:24 it reads.

Joshua 24:24] And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.

Now Joshua is Jesus in English. Not that this Joshua was Jesus but that I found it interesting. Back to John and verse 27 reads.

John 12:27] Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

Jesus is not now or ever a coward. He came into this world for this reason. That he would be sacrificed for all that he might destroy the devil. Heb.2:14. We just read it above.

John 12:28] Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
[29] The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
[30] Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.

How it must have been awesome to hear the voice of God. Notice that not all heard. Ears to hear.

John 12:31] Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

Let’s not overlook this very important statement Jesus makes here. This is the 5th. day before Passover. I’m inclined to believe that in the year that Satan comes at the 6th. trump that it will be five days before Passover. Not that we will know the day, but that the wise shall know the season. Back to verse 32 and it reads.

John 12:32] And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
[33] This he said, signifying what death he should die.

Remember that the pharisees wanted to stone him. No, he would be lifted up on the cross.

John 12:34] The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

They knew that the Christ was everlasting but, they could not comprehend that Jesus would have to be crucified. Jesus is the Son of man, but only while in the flesh. Other wise he is the Son of God.

John 12:35] Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
[36] While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

Gen.1:3, John 1:3-5 and John 9:3-5. We are to shine the Light that is within us. That’s Jesus within us.

John 12:37] But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
[38] That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

Let’s go to Isaiah 53 and read what Jesus quoted here.

Isa.53:1] Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

Always check out in Gods word what is being said. “Study to show thyself approved”.

John 12:39] Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
[40] He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
[41] These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

Again, we go to Isaiah and this time we find in chapter 6.

Isa.6:5] Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

He saw his glory.

Isa.6:6] Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
[7] And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
[8] Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

Can the Lord send you in these days for his service, will you serve the Lord?

Isa.6:9] And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
[10] Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

God only can open eyes and he can shut them. Look around today, to many people walk around and do not know the Lord. Back to John and verse 42 reads.

John 12:42] Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

Joseph of Arimathea. And Nicodemus.

John 12:43] For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
[44] Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
[45] And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.

If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father. John 14:9.

John 12:46] I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
[47] And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

First advent as Savior.

John 12:48] He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

That would be the second advent, Judgement. Coming soon!

John 12:49] For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
[50] And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

Let’s go to John 3 and read it one more time.

John 3:14] And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
[15] That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
[16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
[17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

John 3:16 is the most known verse in Gods word. But I wish that these 4 verses could be just as easily memorized. For this is the Commandment that Jesus was talking about. So much more than just “whosoever” (16). Anyhow, great chapter, hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
