JOHN 9

Our title for today’s study is Jesus heals one blind from birth. We will learn the difference between spiritual eyes and fleshly eyes today. John 9 and verse 1 reads.

John 9:1] And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
[2] And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

It was common in those days to think that someone had to have sinned to be born with a disability.

John 9:3] Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

This man was chosen, predestinated to make known the works of God. He was an Elect chosen in the first earth age to be used at this time. Without a doubt, he must have volunteered. Let’s go ahead to John 11 and verse 1 reads.

John 11:1] Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
[2] (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
[3] Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
[4] When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

Many are chosen for these reasons, that the Son of God might be glorified. Back to John 9 and verse 4 reads.

John 9:4] I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
[5] As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

In the beginning God said Let there be Light (Salvation). Let’s go to Genesis 1 and verse 3 reads.

Gen.1:3] And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
[4] And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
[5] And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

This is the first day of this second earth age, one day with the LORD is a thousand years to man. Jesus Christ is Light, Day. And Satan is darkness, that He called Night. If we are in Jesus we have that Light of Christ in us. But, without Jesus, then Darkness dwells in us. Let’s go to Micah 7 and verse 8 reads.

Mic.7:8] Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.

We need to think spiritually here because this whole chapter will be about our spiritual eyes being opened. Back to John and verse 6 reads.

John 9:6] When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,

Jesus anointed this blind man before he healed him. He is one of God’s Elect, a chosen vessel.

John 9:7] And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

Siloam is a Hebrew name that means; Sent. Apostles is Greek for Sent, or to be Sent. It is a pool where the tower of Siloam had overlooked, before it collapsed and killed 18 people. Jesus has opened this man’s eyes to see, and his spiritual eyes to understand the Word of God.

John 9:8] The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?

They knew him because he had been begging for quite some time. Remember he was born blind.

John 9:9] Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
[10] Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?
[11] He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.

This was another miracle performed by Jesus, and this man made his name known.

John 9:12] Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.
[13] They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
[14] And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
[15] Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.

Think about this, a man who was born blind and now can see. Will they rejoice with him because of this miracle?

John 9:16] Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

The last thing these Pharisees needed was others questioning whether Jesus was a sinner or from God. I know you’re getting tired of it, and so am I, nowhere does it say in God’s Word you can’t heal on the sabbath. This is the spirit of Jealousy. Let’s go to Luke 12 and verse 51 reads.

Luke 12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

Back to John 9 and verse 17 reads.

John 9:17] They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
[18] But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.

Did these Pharisees ever bother to look down at the gate to see this blind man? Or did they ever give to him when he begged? Don’t overlook these simple questions, it shows just what kind of people we are dealing with here. Before we go on, let’s go to Isaiah 65 and verse 5 reads.

Isa.65:5] Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.

Back to John 9 and verse 19 reads.

John 9:19] And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?
[20] His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
[21] But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
[22] These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

We covered this in John 7 and verse 12 reads.

John 7:12] And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
[13] Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.

We see here in John 9 that they feared being excommunicated from the synagogue. I say big deal, they were not being taught the Word of God anyhow. Back to John 9 and verse 23 reads.

John 9:23] Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.

His parents simply said, he is old enough, ask him yourself. In the next few verses, we will see how you outsmart the serpent, pay attention God’s Elect, this is written for you.

John 9:24] Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.

This man, who’s eyes the Lord has opened, will give them a good lesson now. It will absolutely drive them out of their minds.

John 9:25] He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
[26] Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?
[27] He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?

Cut them past the quick, this will hurt them and drive them crazy. Listen very closely, you can hear their teeth gnash.

John 9:28] Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses’ disciples.
[29] We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.

If they were the disciples of Moses, then they should have known that Moses spoke of his coming. Let’s go to Deuteronomy 18 and verse 15 reads.

Deu.18:15] The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

Did not this blind man call Jesus a Prophet? John 9:17.

Deu.18:16] According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.
[17] And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.
[18] I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
[19] And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

These Pharisees should have known this scripture, but their eyes are closed by the LORD so that his Word will come to pass exactly as it is written. The Messiah would come, and these Kenites will crucify him (Psa.22) and God will require it of them. Don’t overlook that the blind man called him a Prophet because his eyes were opened. Back to John 9, the blind man continues, and verse 30 reads.

John 9:30] The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.
[31] Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
[32] Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.

Verse 32 is the only place in the NT that uses these words; Since the world began. Another place in God’s Word where we get information about three world ages.

John 9:33] If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.

No one could say it better than this blind man who can now see, both physically and spiritually. A great example for those of us in these end times. But know this, when we are delivered up to Satan, it won’t be us that speak, but the Holy Spirit that speaks through us.

John 9:34] They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

Excommunicated, the best thing that ever happened to him. If your church does not teach the Word of God, then shake the dust off your feet and get out of that church.

John 9:35] Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

The Living Word of God sought out the blind man. Don’t overlook this, seek him and you will find him. Search his scriptures, and he will open your eyes to his Word. Knock and he will open both eyes and ears. Remember John 3:16, and John 6 and verse 40 reads.

John 6:40] And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Back to John 9 and verse 36 reads.

John 9:36] He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?

The man was blind when Jesus anointed him and sent him to the pool of Siloam. This is why he didn’t recognize him. But he does want to know where he is so that he might believe on him. Whomsoever believeth.

John 9:37] And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.

Catch the word; Both, both his physical and spiritual eyes have been opened.

John 9:38] And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
[39] And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.

Talking about eyes to see and ears to hear. Made blind? Yes, God can remove spiritual eyes also. Reading and studying his Word will show him that you believe, and with that comes great rewards.

John 9:40] And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?

The man was made whole, these Pharisees knew they were spiritually blind to the scriptures. This is why they said Also.

John 9:41] Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

Their sins remain because of their unbelief. They are false teachers in the synagogues, they claim to know Moses, but have never read with understanding his words. They are spiritually blind and threw out a man from the synagogue that was healed because of jealousy. These are Kenites, and will receive damnation for their judgements of others. Let’s go to his throne.
