No one should come between you and God

MATTHEW 22

Matthew gets pretty deep today. I will try my best to keep it simple, but when Jesus goes deep, we need to be there to catch the ball. I’ll do my best as we go. Let’s get started. And it reads.

Matthew 22

[1] And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,

I love when Jesus speaks in parables. First let’s hear the parable then we’ll cover it in depth because it really gets deep here. And we continue with verse 2 and it reads.

[2] The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
[3] And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.

His servants called those that were bidden.

[4] Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
[5] But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
[6] And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
[7] But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

These remnants are the Kenites, and we are talking about the end times. The servants are those that have overcome in the first earth age. They are Gods Elect today, and can already be called “wife”. Let ‘s go to Rev.19: we begin at verse 7 and it reads.

Rev.19:7] Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

His wife has already made herself ready, but has also brought others to the wedding. Note the fine linen is her righteous acts, her works.

Rev.19:8] And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
[9] And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

What this is saying that the elect has brought some back from a spiritual death. Being the servants of the Lord. And doing His works, maybe we can hear “Job well done, my good and faithful servant”. Back to Matthew 22 and verse 8 reads.

Mat.22:8] Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
[9] Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
[10] So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
[11] And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
[12] And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

This man thought he worshipped the Christ but was deceived, and worshipped the antichrist. He didn’t read Gods word, but trusted in man and was deceived. Maybe he was told that he would fly away(rapture out of here) and did not have to read Gods word.

[13] Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
[14] For many are called, but few are chosen.

We just studied in Matthew 20:16 remember?

Mat.20:16] So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

Cast into utter darkness, Jesus would say in another place” I never knew you”. Back to Matthew 22and verse 15 reads.

Mat.22:15] Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.
[16] And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.

Can’t imagine why or how they thought they could trip up the “Living Word”. But here they go. These disciples were of the pharisees, and these Herodians were governmental officials. Let’s see how they do.

Mat.22:17] Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

Tribute is taxes.

Mat.22:18] But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?
[19] Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.
[20] And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?
[21] They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.
[22] When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.

Give to God what is his and to government what is his. There is no law in Gods word that says we don’t have to pay taxes. On the contrary, there is no one or the other. Many people think that it is illegal for our government to tax us. but it is written into law, and you can’t serve God if you are in jail.

Mat.22:23] The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,

So, the Sadducees don’t believe in life after death. And they sit in the judgement seat of Moses? Listen how Jesus answers them. And remember we just learned of the marriage to the Lamb.

[24] Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
[25] Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
[26] Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
[27] And last of all the woman died also.
[28] Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
[29] Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
[30] For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

We are all the children of God.

Mat.22:31] But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
[32] I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

Knowing we will be up against those that will try to trick us in these end times, and they will do it publicly. We must learn Gods word to understand all trickery. We do this with the doctrine of Christ.

Mat.22:33] And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.
[34] But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.

The Pharisees and the Sadducees team up.

Mat.22:35] Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
[36] Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

Know this is a scripture lawyer. And he also will try to trick the Lord.

Mat.22:37] Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
[38] This is the first and great commandment.

These would be the first 5 commandments. Exodus 20:3-12. They are spiritual, a personal relationship with God.

Mat.22:39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
[40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

These would be the last 5 commandments. Exodus 20:13-17. These are civil. How you should treat a neighbor and try to get along. All ten commandments were given in an easy lesson by Jesus here. let’s go to Rom.13:10 and read.

Rom.13:10] Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

And 1Tim.1:5 reads.

[5] Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

How the Lord loves us to give his word freely. back to Matthew 22 and verse 41 reads.

Mat.22:41] While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

Now Jesus goes on offense with the Pharisees. Let’s see how they do.

Mat.22:42] Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.
[43] He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
[44] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
[45] If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
[46] And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

They did not know that the Christ was Emmanuel, God with us. Isaiah 7:14. Or Psalms 110. So, let’s read it and see the depth of Jesus’s question.

Pss.110

[1] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

The Lord will make them his footstool. He will use his elect in the end times.

[2] The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.
[3] Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
[4] The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Melchizedek is Melchi for King, and Zedek for holy priest. King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Christ is Melchizedek. That s why He could say Abraham wanted to see his day. And that will be a good study for another day.

[5] The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.
[6] He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries.
[7] He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.

I understand that was deep, but we needed to know what Jesus was talking about. The Pharisees did not know, but we should know. I hope I made it a little easier. If you still have trouble understanding this, please contact me. let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word. Bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
