After the last chapter, this chapter will specify in more detail, the plan of God from the beginning. Heb.10 and verse 1 reads.
Heb.10:1] For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
[2] For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
Their sacrifices could not do what the blood of Jesus did. “He will remember our sins no more”.
Heb.10:3] But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
[4] For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
If they did this only once a year, and yes, it took this to remind them, then how can sins be forgiven? It simply can’t be done.
Heb.10:5] Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
[6] In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
Let’s go back to Hos.6:6 and it reads.
Hos.6:6] For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
Our love and our knowledge of God’s word is all he wanted. Back to Heb.10 and verse 7 reads.
Heb.10:7] Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
[8] Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
Let’s go to Psalms 40:4-8 and it reads.
Psa.40:4] Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
[5] Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
[6] Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
[7] Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
[8] I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
Sometimes the New helps with the Old. His law written in our heart (minds) is the circumcision of our hearts. For both male and female, this is the New Testament that is Jesus Christ. Back to Heb.10 and verse 9 reads.
Heb.10:9] Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
He takes away the Old and has established the New Testament, Jesus Christ.
Heb.10:10] By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
No more sacrifices, it is sacrilege to do so now.
Heb.10:11] And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
[12] But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
[13] From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
Quoting Psa.110:1, and it reads.
Psa.110:1] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Back to Heb.10:14 and it reads.
Heb.10:14] For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
[15] Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
[16] This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
[17] And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
One sacrifice for all times, Jesus Christ, planned long ago. The Holy Spirit is our witness, only he knows our hearts. Notice he makes a new covenant with us after they crucify our Christ. And his laws are put by him in our hearts, our minds, for those that believe on him. This is the office of Savior.
Heb.10:18] Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
On repentance of sin, we are forgiven and he will remember them no more.
Heb.10:19] Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
[20] By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
His flesh became that veil that was before the Holy of Holies. That veil that he rent, is now him. This is how we can go boldly to the Father and repent of our sins.
Heb.10:21] And having an high priest over the house of God;
Written in Psa.110:4, Christ is Melchizedek. We know Jesus is King, but this is referring to the High Priest, so what we can gather here is that by his death on the cross he became High Priest, completing King of Kings and Lord of Lords. This is why it is written in Rev.21:22 and it reads.
Rev.21:22] And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
Back to Heb.10 and verse 22 reads.
Heb.10:22] Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
[23] Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
Keep your faith in him. Remember the wilderness, they had no faith and they saw the miracles, yet the LORD was long suffering with them. But we will not falter, we will stand with that gospel armor on.
Heb.10:24] And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
[25] Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Our good works show our faith. Teach one another the Word of God, for the Lord’s Day shall come.
Heb.10:26] For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
First, you cannot repent of sins of the future, only the past. No more sacrifices because Jesus was once and for all time. There is however a sin that is unpardonable. Let’s go to Luke 12:10-12 and it reads.
Luke 12:10] And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
[11] And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
[12] For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
This sin only one of God’s Elect could commit. It happens only at the sixth trump when Satan is here, and we are delivered up to him. What this means is; don’t premeditate what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will speak through you. To prevent the Holy Spirit from speaking through you is the unpardonable sin. Back to Heb.10 and verse 27 reads.
Heb.10:27] But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
The unbelievers and wicked will certainly die.
Heb.10:28] He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
This is the law.
Heb.10:29] Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
This brings us back to the unpardonable sin, knowing that we have the Holy Spirit in us, then denying him is unforgivable.
Heb.10:30] For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
[31] It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Let’s first go to Due.32:35-36, this is only a couple of verses of the song of Moses, and it reads.
Due.32:35] To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.
[36] For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he seeth that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left.
How important is the Song of Moses? Rev.15:2-3 reads.
Rev.15:2] And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
[3] And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
It is by the Song of Moses we overcome Satan in the end times. Find time to read all of Due.32. Back to Heb.10 and verse 32 reads.
Heb.10:32] But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;
Once we come to full knowledge and our eyes are opened, they will hate us for his namesake, Christians.
Heb.10:33] Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.
Even those that are family will hate you for his namesake. Sad, but at least you know you are doing it right if they hate you for his namesake, for being Christian.
Heb.10:34] For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.
[35] Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
What Paul is saying here is for us to keep our confidence, keep our faith. For our reward is not of this world, but the world to come.
Heb.10:36] For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
[37] For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
Have patience, He will come, watchmen watch.
Heb.10:38] Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
[39] But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
We will never draw back, we will have the gospel armor on and stand (not fly) against the fiery darts of Satan. For the LORD our God is with us, and will never leave us. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
