Today in Hebrews we will learn more about Melchisedec, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ. Heb.7 and verse 1 reads.

Heb.7:1] For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

This is written in Gen.14:18-20 and it reads.

Gen.14:18] And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
[19] And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
[20] And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

Back to Heb.7 and verse 2 reads.

Heb.7:2] To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

Let’s break this down a little more. King of righteousness, Sedek is righteousness, Melchi is King. Salem is peace, all this is another way of saying King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Heb.7:3] Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

Here we go, who is this man, that had no mother or father (lower case f), without descent? G35 Agenealogētos in the Greek. You can hear our word genealogy in the name, and it means; unregistered as to birth. And one whose descent there is no record of, without genealogy. No beginning or end of life? Like unto the Son of God? Because he is God, this is where the Trinity, or Triune Godhead helps us understand that the three are one. Isa.7:14, Mat.1:23, John 1:1-2 and 14. Back to Heb.7 and verse 4 reads.

Heb.7:4] Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

He was so great that he delivered multiple kings into his hands. Remember Abraham had only 318 servants that took up the sword and fought against five kingdoms. Gen.14:14. Back to Heb.7 and verse 5 reads.

Heb.7:5] And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

Jacob had 12 sons, 12 tribes of Israel. The Levi’s would be of the priesthood, and those that were priests had to be of the seed of Aaron, Moses’s brother. We studied this in Luke 3.

Heb.7:6] But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.

Descent is G35, without genealogy. How? Because it was before God placed the Holy Spirit into Mary.

Heb.7:7] And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.

I will take my blessings from God, and not man. This should not be conflicting to anyone. What this is saying is that Abraham was less than Christ.

Heb.7:8] And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.

He that never dies is Emmanuel, God with us.

Heb.7:9] And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
[10] For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

Levi, being of the priest line, was in the loins of Abraham, who was the grandfather of Jacob, who was the father of all patriarchs.

Heb.7:11] If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

Mary’s mother was of the line of Aaron. Mary’s father was of the line of Judah, keep this in mind or you’ll never understand the order of Melchisedek.

Heb.7:12] For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
[13] For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.

This being the tribe of Judah. Leah conceived her fourth and final son Judah. Gen.29:35. But her third son was called Levi. Gen.29:34.

Heb.7:14] For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

Moses being of the tribe of Levi. But Jesus being of Judah and Levi. Melchisedec.

Heb.7:15] And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

This goes back to that word descent, G35. Without genealogy, without mother or father. There would be one that was born Son of God.

Heb.7:16] Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

Who was, and is, and is to come, Jesus our Christ. For this is the reason we worship him as the Father.

Heb.7:17] For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

This was written in Psa. 110:1-4 and it reads.

Psa.110:1] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
[2] The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.
[3] Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
[4] The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek

Back to Heb.7 and verse 18 reads.

Heb.7:18] For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
[19] For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

It is unto Jesus Christ that we ask for forgiveness from. He is our hope, our Savior.

Heb.7:20] And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:
[21] (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

This priest is Truly the Christ.

Heb.7:22] By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

This word surety is a legal term. Testament is surety, our down payment for our salvation.

Heb.7:23] And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

Jesus died and was resurrected. He alone is able to forgive sins on repentance. Even the Father which is in heaven will not forgive sins. This is the power of Jesus Christ. that on repentance we have salvation.

Heb.7:24] But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

Because he is ever living, can he only be the high priest of the LORD, for he is the LORD.

Heb.7:25] Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

For he is our Savior, he intercedes for our sins.

Heb.7:26] For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

That he came for us, without sin. The Lamb of God, without blemish.

Heb.7:27] Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

Doesn’t need to offer up a sacrifice for us or himself because he himself was the sacrifice.

Heb.7:28] For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

This brings us to him being Melchisedec, the only one begotten of God who would or could be the Lamb of God promised to Abraham. That Lamb, or Ram, promised in Gen.22:13. But as always read the whole chapter to get the entire meaning of the promise that the Lord made to Abraham. But what a study today in Hebrews, let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
