HEBREWS 2

The most important chapter of this book in my opinion because we find the reason for the crucifixion. Let’s get started, Heb.2 and verse 1 reads.

Heb.2:1] Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

Give more attention to the Word of God so we don’t fall short when we are called by the Holy Spirit.

Heb.2:2] For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

Why we receive our just rewards is written in Numbers 15:28-31, now think for a moment, this is before Christ was crucified for our sins. This matters because he became our Passover lamb.

Num.15:28] And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth by ignorance before the LORD, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him.

Even before Christ was sacrificed for our sins, they had forgiveness of sins by atonement by the priest if they sinned ignorantly.

Num.15:29] Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them.
[30] But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

Because he did it knowingly, his sins are not forgiven.

Num.15:31] Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.

Knowing you are sinning and continuing to sin is not covered by the blood of the lamb. But now with the sacrifice of Jesus Christ we have repentance, this means after we sin knowingly, we can repent (have a change of heart) and show we are truly sorry for our sins, then we are forgiven. This was not the case under the law of blood ordinance. Back to Heb.2 and verse 3 reads.

Heb.2:3] How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

Spoken by the Lord, his Word. The Word became flesh (John 1:14) and his apostles ministered these words to us.

Heb.2:4] God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

At the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit spoke through Peter and said in Acts 2:22-24 and it reads.

Acts 2:22] Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
[23] Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
[24] Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

Their knowledge from past scriptures that they themselves should have known, and most likely did know, told them of the Messiah that would come. Isa.7:14. Back to Heb.2 and verse 5 reads.

Heb.2:5] For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.

Known in heaven that Christ would be the Lamb of God, meaning that he would be sacrificed.

Heb.2:6] But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?

We find this in Psalms 8:4-6 and it reads.

Psa.8:4] What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
[5] For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
[6] Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

Back to Hebrews 2 and verse 7 reads.

Heb.2:7] Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:

Lower than the angels, he became flesh. There is none higher than God and Jesus was God with us. Immanuel, Mat.1:23.

Heb.2:8] Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

But yet, there is one more advent to come. let’s go to 1Cor.15:24-25 and it reads.

1Cor.15:24] Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
[25] For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

All enemies have not yet been put under his feet. This won’t happen until we are delivered up to Satan at the sixth trump. Back to Heb.2 and verse 9 reads.

Heb.2:9] But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Showing us here the reason for him being in the flesh was for the “Suffering of death”. This matters as we’ll see soon. Don’t overlook that his death was for everyone.

Heb.2:10] For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Salvation for repentance is made perfect through his suffering on the cross.

Heb.2:11] For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
[12] Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.

Hallelujah, praise the Lord. Declare him and never be ashamed to say “Jesus is King” for we know Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. And if any deny him then he is an antichrist. 1John 4:2-3 and it reads.

1John 4:2] Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
[3] And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Back to Heb.2 and verse 13 reads.

Heb.2:13] And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.

Jesus spoke this very well in John 10:27-30 and it reads.

John 10:27] My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
[28] And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
[29] My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
[30] I and my Father are one.

Immanuel, God with us, we understand the Trinity. Now comes the reason Jesus came in the flesh, pay close attention because it is not said anyplace better than here. Back to Heb.2 and verse 14 reads.

Heb.2:14] Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

Death is the devil, Satan, that old Serpent, the Dragon, and Antichrist. Whichever name you wish to call him, here he is called the devil. Jesus came in the flesh to destroy Satan and as the sacrifice that was promised to Abraham (Gen.22:12-13), He came as the Lamb of God, being God, to die for our sins. Now that Satan had him killed, he can destroy Satan and all that follow him without any remorse. All this was planned from the beginning and being well executed by the Lord, keeping the seed line pure from Adam through Mary that there should be no blemish on the Lamb. This is the whole reason of this earth age, that salvation would come through Christ and that on repentance we are all forgiven of our sins and that we come to the LORD. Back to Heb.2 and verse 15 reads.

Heb.2:15] And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
[16] For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

The LORD said to Abraham, “Through Isaac shall thy seed be called” Gen.21:12. God and Abraham had a very special relationship, God is saying to him here in Genesis that the Christ would come through his seed.

Heb.2:17] Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

This shows us that God is merciful to all his children. You see, even if a Kenite comes to repentance he is saved. John 3:16-18 reads.

John 3:16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
[17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
[18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Condemned already pertains to the first earth age. Back to Heb.2 and verse 18 reads.

Heb.2:18] For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

The devil tempted Jesus in the wilderness and did so with scriptures, Jesus being the Word of God could not be tempted, this temptation was futile. But, because he himself partook of the flesh he is able to forgive sins of the flesh. Any that did not partake of the flesh, Satan and his fallen angels, shall not have repentance, therefore are condemned. Let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
