The Holy Spirit

Spirit H7307 rûwach in the Hebrew, pronounced; roo’-akh in English. Wind, breath, mind, spirit. spirit (of the living, breathing being in man and animals). as gift, preserved by God, God’s spirit, this being of God’s possession (ownership), departing at death, disembodied being. Spirit of God, the third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit, coequal, coeternal with the Father and the Son. as manifest in the Shekinah glory.

Holy Ghost (Spirit).

Spirit G4151 pneuma, in Greek, pronounced; pnyoo’-mah in English. The third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit, coequal, coeternal with the Father and the Son. But for spirit (lower case); a current of air that is breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively a spirit that is (human) the rational soul (by implication) vital principle mental disposition etc. or (superhuman) an angel demon. The spirit, i.e. the vital principal by which the body is animated. the rational spirit, the power by which the human being feels, thinks, decides. The soul.

Always be careful to see if the “S” is uppercase or lower case. Upper case only implies God’s Spirit, lower case implies all other spirits. About this word “Ghost”, God is not a spook, there are no Caspers or paranormal activities going on in this world, this is only invented to take you away from God’s Word, from such flee. Now, for this lesson let’s get started in the Old Testament, in the beginning, Genesis 1 and verse 1 reads.

Gen.1:1] In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

This didn’t give a date or time this is millions of years ago.

Gen.1:2] And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

This word “was” should have been translated “became”, (H1961 from H1933). But for this study we will focus on the words Spirit and “And”. And is a polysyndeton, meaning more is said than you read. In this case “the Spirit of” is replaced with “And”. So, when we read “And” it is in place of “The Spirit of”, let’s continue.

Gen.1:3] And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

And the Spirit of God said, Let there be light, Jesus is that Light. Salvation for this earth age was created at this time.

Gen.1:4] And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
[5] And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

And the Spirit of God did much creating in six days before resting on the seventh. Our example is that there would be seven thousand years before the next Lord’s Day. Now let’s go to Ezekiel, here Ezekiel has just witnessed the landing of the Father and his angels. And he described them very well, but let’s pick it up when he see’s the Father.

Eze.1:27] And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.
[28] As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

This is the Shekinah Glory that surrounds our LORD, so bright that even the sun doesn’t give her light. Let’s continue in Chapter 2 and verse 1 reads.

Eze.2:1] And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.

The Lord will not speak to you when you’re are on your knees. As with Job, he will stand us up to speak to us as men.

Eze.2:2] And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.

An angel with the Lord did this, notice the lower case.

Eze.2:3] And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day.
[4] For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD.
[5] And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.

A prophet is one sent by God, and speaks what God has given to him.

Eze.2:6] And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.
[7] And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious.
[8] But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.
[9] And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein;
[10] And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.

This roll is The Word of God. We take of it every day. He continues in chapter 3 and it reads.

Eze.3:1] Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel.
[2] So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll.
[3] And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

Eat his Word, study his word, then take it to those he sends you to. We find this in Rev.10 and verse 1 reads.

Rev.10:1] And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:
[2] And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,

Let’s skip down to verse 7 and it reads.

Rev.10:7] But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.

This is why we must study the prophets, they are a like for us in these end times.

Rev.10:8] And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.

Showing dominion of the world.

Rev.10:9] And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.
[10] And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.
[11] And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

Jesus would tell us “Take and eat ye all of it” speaking of the bread that was his body, Our Daily Bread, Now, let’s go to Luke chapter 1 and verse 26 reads.

Luke 1:26] And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

Gabriel means Man of God.

Luke 1:27] To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
[28] And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

Favored for she was of the house of Judah and a daughter of Aaron. But also, a daughter of God in all senses.

Luke 1:29] And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
[30] And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
[31] And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

Jesus means Yah’s Savior.

Luke 1:32] He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
[33] And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Luke 1:34] Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
[35] And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

We just read the Trinity in one verse, The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Luke 1:36] And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
[37] For with God nothing shall be impossible.
[38] And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
[39] And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;

Proving here that Mary conceived on Dec.25, Elisabeth would give birth to John the Baptist on Passover, three months later.

Luke 1:40] And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
[41] And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

Here is where John and Elisabeth are both filled with the Holy Spirit, John being with his mother Elisabeth in her womb.

Luke 1:42] And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
[43] And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

Elisabeth knew that Messiah, The Christ, was coming because the Lord had spoken to both Zacharias and Elisabeth. They both knew that their son would be the last prophet, and that he would be the voice crying in the wilderness saying, Make way for the Lord.

Luke 1:44] For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

John leaped for joy in her womb. All this proves that life begins at conception.

Luke 1:45] And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
[46] And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
[47] And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

God is Father, Savior is God in the flesh, both the Father and the Son have and are the Holy Spirit, for the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of both.

Luke 1:48] For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
[49] For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.
[50] And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.

Mary is speaking, a prophetess no doubt.

Luke 1:51] He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
[52] He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.

He can put one in leadership and can take him down. Pay attention, this is why we went to Ezekiel.

Luke 1:53] He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.

He will feed the sheep and lambs when they come to him, for he is the Word.

Luke 1:54] He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;
[55] As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.

The promise made to Abraham. Gen.22:1-14.

Luke 1:56] And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.

Now let’s go to 1Cor.6:9-20 and it reads.

1Cor.6:9] Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

Look up this word effeminate, they are an abomination unto the Lord.

1Cor.6:10] Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
[11] And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Justified, Repentance through Jesus by the Holy Spirit that is the Father. Another place, the Triune Godhead, the Trinity, is mentioned in one verse.

1Cor.6:12] All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
[13] Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.

Telling us here our bodies belong to the Lord, Jesus. Immanuel God with us in the flesh.

1Cor.6:14] And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.
[15] Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
[16] What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
[17] But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

We become one flesh with the Lord, Jesus, one in the Spirit, this alone should want us to repent of all sins and humble ourselves to the Lord.

1Cor.6:18] Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that commiteth fornication sinneth against his own body.

Without the body, without his Spirit. You have just separated yourself from the Lord.

1Cor.6:19] What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
[20] For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Which are God’s, meaning ownership. Some people mislead others thinking you become a god, no, you belong to God. This study shows us that there is but one God, He is the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. One God who is three, they make up one Godhead, Triune or Trinity. The Holy Spirit is in us if we “Eat his Word” accept Jesus Christ as our LORD and Savior, the Word of God. Jesus would say in John 14:9 “He that hath seen me, hath seen the Father.” We know that Jesus is the Word of God, we also know that it was prophesied (Isa.7:14) that he would be born of a virgin. The promise to Abraham would come, and would be called Immanuel, God with us. What a beautiful thing, that the LORD loves us so much he himself would come in the flesh to be crucified for our sins, that on repentance we are justified and forgiven because we believe his Word. Let’s go to his throne.
