Today we finish the great book of Matthew. Our titles are as follows. Verses 1-10 The resurrection of Jesus Christ. Verses 11-15 The report of the guard. Verses 16-20 The church: it’s worship and work. Before I get started, I want you to know here at The Christ Ministries we observe Passover and not Easter. Easter is a pagan holiday that was brought into the church centuries after the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. However, we do teach Christ crucified, and with that of course Christ is Risen. Matthew 28 and verse 1 reads.
Mat.28:1] In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
The other Mary we find in Luke 24:10 is the mother of James. But we still don’t know if this is Mother Mary, the mother of Jesus and his brother James, or Mary the mother of John and James the greater. My guess is it is the mother of James the greater and John because if it were the mother of Jesus, she would have received top billing.
Mat.28:2] And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
It said “The angel of the Lord”, this is Jesus himself. This chapter does not conflict with the other chapters, Luke 24:4-10 or John 20:1-18. Those chapters had two angels that sat one at the head the other at the feet where they had laid Jesus in the tomb. Those two angels did not sit on top of the stone, this is the angel of the Lord.
Mat.28:3] His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
This description of Jesus in his glory is also recorded in Eze.1:26-28, Dan.7:9, Rev.1:12-16. And the two angels in the tomb match the two angels in Acts 1:10.
Mat.28:4] And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
This fear is a paralyzing fear, they passed out.
Mat.28:5] And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
[6] He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
He is Risen! Then tells them to look inside. Matthew does not record what the women saw when they looked inside, read Luke 24 and John 20 for those details. But it is what Jesus says next that declares He is Jesus.
Mat.28:7] And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
Lo, I have told you. Jesus spoke this to them in Matthew 26 and verse 31 reads.
Mat.26:31] Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
[32] But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
Now in chapter 26 the next verse Peter was so consumed of not scattering as Jesus told them they would, he must have overlooked this. The Lord can open eyes and the Lord can close them. Some might ask is this the Father or the Son. Jesus would teach us in John 14:9-11 that if you have seen me, you have seen the Father. Back to Matthew 28 and verse 8 reads.
Mat.28:8] And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
Now this word fear is G5401 phobos pronounced fob’-os. And has two meanings; 1. fear, dread, terror. As with verse 4 with the keepers. 2. reverence for one’s husband. As with this verse 8. Don’t overlook as for one’s husband, we wait for that marriage to the Lamb.
Mat.28:9] And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
[10] Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
This is written better in John 20 and verse 11 reads.
John 20:11] But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
[12] And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
[13] And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
[14] And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
[15] Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
[16] Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
[17] Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
[18] Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
When she heard Jesus’s voice, she instantly recognized him. Now, Jesus wasn’t being rude when he said “Touch me not”, in the scriptures it says “Don’t hold me back”. Jesus hasn’t ascended to the Father yet, but afterwards he would come back and meet with all of them in Galilee. Back to Matthew 28 and verse 11 reads.
Mat.28:11] Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
Reporting to the chief priests, we have studied this chief priest and all his cohorts were indeed Kenites.
Mat.28:12] And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
Bribery, a great sin these priests are committing. But as we learned in the last few chapter’s they are liars and murderers.
Mat.28:13] Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
This lie is perpetuated until this day.
Mat.28:14] And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.
They gave them a guarantee that they would bail them out if they were found to be liars.
Mat.28:15] So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
And until this day as well. Now, we learned in this great book of Matthew that we have been dealing with the Kenites, the Serpent’s Seed. Let’s go to Revelation 2 and verse 9 reads.
Rev.2:9] I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
We also learn in the epistles of John, 2John 1 and verse 7 reads.
2John 1:7] For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
To our brothers of Judah, as I am one also, we should understand that Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament as it reads in Matthew 5:17. Back to Matthew 28 and verse 16 reads.
Mat.28:16] Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
[17] And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
We find in John 20 this is Thomas, John 20 and verse 24 reads.
John 20:24] But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
[25] The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
In the LORDS Holy Name we have in Paleo Hebrew, YHVH or Y=Hand, H=behold, V=Nail, H=behold. As it reads with the adjectives before the subject; Behold Hand, Behold the Nail. Written from the very beginning in the Word of God. That he would come for Salvation, and his hands would be pierced.
John 20:26] And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
[27] Then saith he to Thomas, reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
[28] And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
[29] Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
Blessed are you and me for believing without having to see. Back to Matthew 28 and verse 18 reads.
Mat.28:18] And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Let’s go to Acts 2 and verse 36 reads.
Acts 2:36] Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
And in Romans 14 verse 9 reads.
Rom.14:9] For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
But never forget Isaiah 7:14 and Matthew 1:23 that Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us. And also, in John 1 and verse 14 reads.
John 1:14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Back to Matthew 28 and verse 19 reads.
Mat.28:19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Here is how to baptize one another. In the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (correctly translated). We have here the Trinity or full Godhead.
Mat.28:20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
I Am being his Holy name. Observe all commandments and I the Comforter shall be with you always. It has been my pleasure teaching the book of Matthew, I will never take it for granted. In Dr. E.W. Bullinger’s Companion Bible he has an awesome appendix, appx.165, which gives you the last six days of Jesus. I strongly suggest giving it a read, there is no better scholar than him. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
