Let us get started, Mark 11 and verse 1 reads.
Mark 11
Mar.11:1] And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples,
Bethphage means house of figs, and Bethany means house of dates. Your ears should open whenever you hear figs.
Mar.11:2] And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.
[3] And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither.
The Lord has already planned for this moment, and this was the time. We have an example for us in these times. Let ‘s go to Zechariah 9:9 and read.
Zec.9:9] Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
This is the first advent, and the second advent is verse 10 and it reads.
Zec.9:10] And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from river even to the ends of the earth.
We continue with Mark and verse 4 reads.
Mar.11:4] And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.
[5] And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt?
[6] And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.
[7] And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.
Let us go to Psalms 118:23-26 and read.
Psa.118:23] This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
[24] This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
[25] Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.
[26] Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.
What is written will happen exactly as it is written. Back to Mark and it reads.
Mar.11:8] And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way.
[9] And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:
[10] Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.
Hosanna means “save us now”, Jesus in Hebrew is Yah’s Savior. Our savior has arrived.
Mar.11:11] And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.
He looked around, I don’t think he was happy with what he saw.
Mar.11:12] And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:
[13] And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
Jesus knew whether or not it was time for the fig harvest. He is teaching the parable of the fig tree here, very important to us now because, we are living in the fig tree generation. So, let’s pay attention. Know that prophesies are for them then, and for our example now. Let us go to Jeremiah 24:2-7 and read.
Jer.24:2] One basket had very good figs, even like the figs that are first ripe: and the other basket had very naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.
[3] Then said the LORD unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.
[4] Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
[5] Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge them that are carried away captive of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for their good.
[6] For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.
[7] And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.
Their hearts shall return to their fathers, plural. These bad figs are the Kenites, the Serpents seed. The good figs are of our Fathers seed. Now we look around today and see much evil in the world, this is the fig tree generation. Back to Mark and it reads.
Mar.11:14] And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
[15] And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;
[16] And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.
He chased out those that would sell cheap sacrifices instead of the best from their flocks. The house of God had been perverted. And I will tell you today, it is again. Those selling a false salvation (fly away doctrine) instead of true salvation which is Jesus Christ. But make no mistake they know the lie and sell it.
Mar.11:17] And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.
When Jesus quotes scripture we need to go back to read it. He quoted Isa.56:7 so let’s read.
Isa.56:7] Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
Let’s back up a second, after he cleansed the house, he filled it (he taught). And when he taught, he quoted scripture. I can imagine it was something that wasn’t done in a long time.
Mar.11:18] And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.
Wait a minute, because the people were astonished at his doctrine? How is it that Jesus’s doctrine was different from the priest doctrine? Because they were teaching a false doctrine. Isn’t that simple. What we have is two figs here.
Mar.11:19] And when even was come, he went out of the city.
[20] And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
[21] And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
[22] And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
[23] For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
Mountain is nation. If you ask God, he will give you the measure in which you will need to move your nation back to him. It is called prayer. James talked about this in 1:5-6 let’s read.
Jam.1:5] If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
[6] But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
Back to Mark.
Mar.11:24] Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
[25] And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
[26] But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
Forgive their trespasses as he forgives yours. Upon repentance, don’t forget it takes repentance.
Mar.11:27] And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,
[28] And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?
[29] And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
[30] The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.
[31] And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?
[32] But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.
[33] And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
They knew, and could not tell Jesus. Jesus, being the Authority, did not need to argue with these Kenites. They polluted His temple they taught false doctrine. No need to argue with them that could not hear the word of the Lord. Our example today in this lesson is don’t argue, just leave them to their own demise. Let us go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
