In this chapter we will learn about the coming apostasy, the example of Paul, being steadfast in scriptures, and that the scriptures are the inspired Word of God. 2Tim.3 and verse 1 reads.
2Tim.3:1] This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
Jesus spoke of these times in Mark 13 and Matthew 24. But let’s go to 2Peter and read 3:2-3.
2Pet.3:2] That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
[3] Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
Back to 2Tim.3 and verse 2 reads.
2Tim.3:2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
Sounds familiar with today’s world.
2Tim.3:3] Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
This natural affection is G794 and pertains to family members without love for their own families.
2Tim.3:4] Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
These lovers of pleasures are the sick people in this world that lust one for another in the vial way.
2Tim.3:5] Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
Form of godliness because we are all made in the image of God but they deny God. From such turn away, have nothing to do with these evil people. Even if they are family, let’s go to 2Thes.3:5-6 and it reads.
2Thes.3:5] And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.
[6] Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.
And we are to certainly keep them out of the church and the home. Back to 2Tim.3 and verse 6 reads.
2Tim.3:6] For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
Hard to tell silly women from silly men today.
2Tim.3:7] Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
These false teachers will never have the truth. written in Isaiah 29:12-13 and it reads.
Isa.29:12] And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.
[13] Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
Back to 2Tim.3 and verse 8 reads.
2Tim.3:8] Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
Jannes and Jambres were magicians of Pharaoh in Exo.7:8-12, Aaron cast down his rod and it became a serpent, Jannes and Jambres cast down their rods also but Aaron’s rod ate their rods. These false teachers will be as serpents also, Kenites.
2Tim.3:9] But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
Their folly will be made known as Jannes and Jambres was, Kenites, of the Serpents seed. Rev.2:9.
2Tim.3:10] But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
[11] Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
After teaching at Antioch, they were persecuted. Acts 13 and begin with verse 14, it is a great study on how to teach boldly.
2Tim.3:12] Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Written in Psalms 34:19 and it reads.
Psa.34:19] Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
Back to 2Tim.3 and verse 13 reads.
2Tim.3:13] But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
As labor pangs they get closer and closer, this is a sign for the elect. Jesus told us in Mark 13 and Matthew 24 “Do not be deceived, for false Christ shall come”.
2Tim.3:14] But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
[15] And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Continue with scriptures, stay in them because you don’t know when the Lord opens the eyes of the elect, he will open them in due season, for his own testimony for the Lord. Remember this next verse always.
2Tim.3:16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Peter would teach this in 2Pet.1 verses 18-21 and it reads.
2Pet.1:18] And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
[19] We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
[20] Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
[21] For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Back to 2Tim.3 and verse 17 reads.
2Tim.3:17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
That a pastor or teacher may be mature in the word of God, capable with wisdom in all his good works for the Lord. Great study today, let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
