Mark 14:32-72
Mark 14 and verse 32 reads.
Mar.14:32] And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
He took 3 witnesses, an example for us in these end times. Showing us when we are delivered up before the antichrist, how, and who to put our trust in and that, would be in our Father.
Mar.14:33] And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
[34] And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
“And watch” intended for the watchmen of these end times.
Mar.14:35] And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
[36] And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
Jesus was not showing a moment of weakness here, and to say so is shameful. Jesus endured the cross knowing it was to be. And he did that for you and me. what Jesus was talking about was the cup of wrath, and we go to Isaiah 51:17-23 and read.
Isa.51:17] Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, which hast drunk at the hand of the LORD the cup of his fury; thou hast drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.
[18] There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand of all the sons that she hath brought up.
[19] These two things are come unto thee; who shall be sorry for thee? desolation, and destruction, and the famine, and the sword: by whom shall I comfort thee?
These two things, but he gives four. Famine is desolation, and the sword is destruction. Famine in the end times is for hearing the word of the Lord”. Amos.8:11. The “Sword of the Lord” is the Word of God. back to Isa.51:20.
Isa.51:20] Thy sons have fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, as a wild bull in a net: they are full of the fury of the LORD, the rebuke of thy God.
[21] Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine:
[22] Thus saith thy Lord the LORD, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of my fury; thou shalt no more drink it again:
[23] But I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee; which have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laid thy body as the ground, and as the street, to them that went over.
The cup is his fury and it will be poured out. Don’t overlook a couple of things here. First, the Father took the cup out of Christ hands, no matter how much compassion Jesus has, the LORD will pour it out. Second notice the “Went over”, that would be Passover, and this was the Passover Lamb. Back to Mark and verse 37 reads.
Mar.14:37] And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
Talking to you about that “Hour of Temptation”. Don’t fall asleep on watch.
Mar.14:38] Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
[39] And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
[40] And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
If you fall asleep, what could you say to Christ, you will have to answer him.
Mar.14:41] And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
[42] Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.
[43] And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
These were not the army of the Romans, but of the high priest, a rag-tag people that had just sticks mostly. Peter knew that they could take them, if only Jesus would have let them. He doesn’t, and here’s why. The pharisees were going to wait until after the Passover because they feared the people. But Judas talked them into doing it at night. though it was illegal, it was safer for them. But to keep the law of the Passover Lamb, and what was written, this had to happen.
Mar.14:44] And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
[45] And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
[46] And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
[47] And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
This would be Peter that drew the sword, and he cut off the ear of Malchus. John 18:10.
Mar.14:48] And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?
[49] I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
[50] And they all forsook him, and fled.
Strike the shepherd and the sheep shall scatter.
Mar.14:51] And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
[52] And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
I think this is Mark himself, he always followed Jesus. And he only would know this account because all others fled.
Mar.14:53] And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
Remember these high priest and scribes and elders are Kenites that have worked their way into the temple. John 8:40-44.
Mar.14:54] And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
[55] And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
[56] For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
[57] And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
[58] We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
[59] But neither so did their witness agree together.
Let’s go to John 2:19-22 and read exactly what Jesus did say.
John2:19] Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
Did he say He would destroy it? No, if you destroy it.
John2:20] Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
[21] But he spake of the temple of his body.
[22] When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
So again, they found only liars. Back to Mark and verse 60 reads.
Mar.14:60] And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
Now we go back to Isaiah and find in 53:7.
Isa.53:7] He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
Back to Mark and verse 61 reads.
Mar.14:61] But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
[62] And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
I Am, is His Holy name and why is the high priest so angry. Look at it this way. Jesus used reverse psychology on them. What they accused him of, they made happen.
Mar.14:63] Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
[64] Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
On a lie, they condemned themselves to death. Father will have them stand before him soon, wouldn’t you like to have seen their faces when they stood before God.
Mar.14:65] And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
This angers me so much I want a piece of them. How hard it is to be a Christian sometimes. So, let’s break down what it is to say “Jesus Christ”, you would be saying “Yah’s Savior, His Anointed One.” Let’s go to Psa.105.15 and it reads.
Psa.105:15] Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
[16] Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread.
The crucifixion of Jesus is very emotional for me, I’ll try to do my best not to show it, but seriously, it will show sometimes. Back to Mark and verse 66 reads.
Mar.14:66] And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:
[67] And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
[68] But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.
[69] And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.
[70] And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.
His speech gave him away. This third man that accused Peter was the same one that Peter cut the ear off of. John18:26-27.
Mar.14:71] But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.
[72] And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
How painful this must have been for Peter. Jesus chose Peter to build his church on. He knows his heart, and maybe sometimes we all need to remember that Jesus can open eyes and he can close eyes. Whatever it takes for his will to be done. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word, and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
