We are going to finish Mark today. So, let’s get started, Mark 16 and verse 1 reads.
Mark 16
Mar.16:1] And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
To anoint him after the second sabbath of the week. The first sabbath of the week was the high sabbath, the Passover. The Passover was on a Wednesday. Let’s go thru this day by day. Christ was crucified on a Wednesday. Wednesday evening at sundown to Thursday evening at sundown was one day. Thursday evening to Friday evening, was the second day. Friday even to Saturday even, was the third day. And sometime after that during the night he was resurrected. Making him 3days in the tomb, and the day after the 2nd. Sabbath being the following day, a Sunday.
Mar.16:2] And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
This is early in the morning, on a Sunday.
Mar.16:3] And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?
[4] And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
How the Lord works. Knowing they would need the help the Lord rolled the stone for them.
Mar.16:5] And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
Angels are always seen as young. In the spirit body none can be corrupt. We are all the same age, if I can use the word “age”. We were created in the first earth age, and are going back to the spiritual body when we go back to the Father.
Mar.16:6] And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
[7] But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.
Remember he said in Mark 14:28, let’s go back and read it again.
Mar.14:28] But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.
The last 12 verses of Mark are said to not be in the manuscripts. However, if you go to the manuscripts, you will find them. Dr. Bullinger has a wonderful work on this in his companion bible. You will find it in Appx.168. Back to Mark 16 and verse 8 reads.
Mar.16:8] And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.
[9] Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute, and to say so is a lie. She was possessed by 7 demons. Beware of men that lie and teach false doctrine.
Mar.16:10] And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
[11] And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.
This is very upsetting to me did not they walk with Him? Again, let’s go back to Mark 10:32-34, and it reads.
Mar.10:32] And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,
[33] Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
[34] And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
How could they not remember this. The only conclusion I can come up with, is it was for our understanding and not theirs. If they had seen with their eyes and heard with their ears, then maybe they would have sinned and try to stop it from happening. Back to Mark 16 and verse 12 reads.
Mar.16:12] After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.
This is beautifully laid out in Luke 24:25-31. We are going to go there, and it reads.
Luke24:25] Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
[26] Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
[27] And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
What a lesson that must have been, coming from the mouth of the Lord.
Luke24:28] And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
[29] But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
[30] And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
[31] And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
And poof he was gone. Back to Mark 16 and it reads.
Mar.16:13] And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.
[14] Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
I think this means Jesus meant for them to remember. Though they didn’t even believe the two men, hard of hearts is what Jesus said unto them. And also, John, James, and Peter saw Moses and Elijah on the mount of transfiguration. Could they remember that, or did they forget that as well. Back to Mark and verse 15 reads.
Mar.16:15] And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
[16] He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
What is baptism? That you believe that Jesus died (going under the water) and that he rose again from the dead (coming out of the water).
Mar.16:17] And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Luke 10:19. He gives us power over all our enemies in His name.
Mar.16:18] They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Heads up, this is talking about the Serpents seed. Not talking about picking up rattlesnakes, they haven’t read the bible. And deadly things are poisonious. Meaning your character cannot be tarnished, for the word of God.
Mar.16:19] So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
[20] And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
That was my favorite gospel, short and to the point. Full of the Spirit of God. Don’t miss the next lesson, Luke. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
