Today we finish the book of Philippians. Let’s get started, Phi.4 and verse 1 reads.
Phi.4:1] Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.
Put that gospel armor on and stand for the Lord.
Phi.4:2] I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.
Two women mentioned here, I say this to point out women can teach also and will, especially in these end times. Let’s go to Joel 2:28-29 and it reads.
Joel 2:28] And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
[29] And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
What a wonderful time it will be, and is now, watchmen watch. Back to Phi.4 and verse 3 reads.
Phi.4:3] And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.
Doing the works of the Lord and putting our faith of Jesus Christ, has put our names in the book of Life. Keeping the commandments of God, that’s his law, and having faith in Jesus.
Rev.14:12] Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
[13] And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
Remember our last lesson in chapter 3:10 we talked about the three resurrections. This one is talking about the second, from flesh to spirit. Do not overlook that our works do follow us. Back to Phi.4 and verse 4 reads.
Phi.4:4] Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
Rejoice for the Lord has forgiven our sins on repentance. They are blotted out and exist no more.
Phi.4:5] Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
Letting our speech be careful as we, watchmen, tell of the coming of the Lord.
Phi.4:6] Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
The Lord is our God, he shall never leave us or forsake us. Let’s go to Psalms 55 and verse 22 reads.
Psa.55:22] Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
Put your trust in God. Back to Phi.4 and verse 7 reads.
Phi.4:7] And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Let this comfort you in this world as you do God’s will, and teach his children the truth of his Word. Boldly and without apology.
Phi.4:8] Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
In Jeremiah 43:26 God says “Remind me of my promises”, not that he may forget but he wants to know if you have read his word.
Phi.4:9] Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Paul is saying, let me be your example by the letters I have wrote. Not only this letter to Philippi, but all of his letters. And God himself will be with you.
Phi.4:10] But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.
Paul being in prison is saying you too might one day be in prison. Let’s go to Revelations 2:10 and read.
Rev.2:10] Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
This is specifically written to the elect. Note that we will have no more than ten days. Back to Phi.4 and verse 11 reads.
Phi.4:11] Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
[12] I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
The Lord wants a cheerful giver. If you are chosen then expect to carry your cross. Let’s go to 2Cor.9:7-8 and read how the Lord loves you.
2Cor.9:7] Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
[8] And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
If you will do the work then God will provide the bricks. Back to Phi.4 and verse 13 reads.
Phi.4:13] I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Jesus told us in John 15:4-5 how we are strengthened, and it reads.
John 15:4] Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
He, Jesus, is the Word.
John 15:5] I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Back to Phi.4 and verse 14 reads.
Phi.4:14] Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction.
Because Paul was in prison for teaching the word of God, Phi.1:7.
Phi.4:15] Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.
Written in 2Cor.11:8.
2Cor.11:8] I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service.
Back to Phi.4 and verse 16 reads.
Phi.4:16] For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.
When you sent Epaphroditus to me in Thessalonica.
Phi.4:17] Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.
Knowing that their fruit would be accounted for their own good works.
Phi.4:18] But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
We find this in Romans 12:1-2 and it reads.
Rom.12:1] I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
[2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Paul is always compassionate for the people he serves. Back to Phi.4 and verse 19 reads.
Phi.4:19] But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
For the sake of Jesus, God will supply all things that you need to further the works of Jesus Christ, that is his Word. 2Cor.9:8 reads.
2 Cor. 9:8] And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
Back to Phi.4 and verse 20 reads.
Phi.4:20] Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Always in the name of the Lord do we these things.
Phi.4:21] Salute every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet you.
[22] All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Caesar’s household.
Catch that? Even Caesar’s household came to Jesus and believed.
Phi.4:23] The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
Paul is an extraordinary teacher of God’s word. He ends this letter to Philippians with a simple salutation that he gives often. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
