In today’s study our titles are; Verses 1-5 Results of justification. Verses 6-11 It is a fact that Christ died for you. Verses 12-21 How sin entered into the world. Continuing after the understanding we are under the law of Faith, not that law is done away with. Romans 5 and verse 1 reads.
Rom.5:1] Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
This verse just summed up Chapter 4. Let’s go to John 16, Jesus is speaking, and verse 33 reads.
John 16:33] These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Now, to understand that for the Gentiles sake, the blood ordinances have been done away with and not the law, let’s go to Ephesians 2 and verse 11 reads.
Eph.2:11] Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
[12] That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
[13] But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
[14] For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
[15] Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
[16] And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
[17] And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
[18] For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
[19] Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
[20] And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
I hope this settles any arguments of being under law. It is the blood ordinances only that were done away with, and for the Gentiles sake alone. Jesus, the Lamb of God, became our Passover Lamb, his blood on the cross was for once and all time the final Passover. It is the most Holy day of the year for all Christians, not Easter. Easter is a pagan holiday. To bring all of God’s children into the family with repentance and salvation for all. Back to Romans 5 and verse 2 reads.
Rom.5:2] By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
When Jesus was crucified on the cross, the first thing he did was rent the veil allowing us to come directly to God. Never again would we need a high priest to come to the Father. Jesus spoke of this in John 10 and verse 17 reads.
John 10:17] Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
[18] No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
[19] There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings.
The division is between those of the tribe of Judah and the Kenites who have mixed in among them. We see this in our churches today. Back to Romans 5 and verse 3 reads.
Rom.5:3] And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
We endure the tribulations with Christ and we pray for the patience of the saints. Let’s go to 2Corinthians 12 and verse 9 reads.
2Cor.12:9] And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Let’s go to the wisdom of James, James 1 and verse 2 reads.
James 1:2] My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
[3] Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
[4] But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
Back to Romans 5 and verse 4 reads.
Rom.5:4] And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
Patience, experience or hope, endurance or character which is confidence. Let’s go back to James 1 and verse 12 reads.
James 1:12] Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
[13] Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
[14] But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
[15] Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
[16] Do not err, my beloved brethren.
Back to Romans 5 and verse 5 reads.
Rom.5:5] And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
This would be the Comforter within us. Let’s go to Psalms 119 and verse 114 reads.
Psa.119:114] Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.
[115] Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God.
[116] Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope.
[117] Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto thy statutes continually.
[118] Thou hast trodden down all them that err from thy statutes: for their deceit is falsehood.
[119] Thou puttest away all the wicked of the earth like dross: therefore I love thy testimonies.
Now let’s go to Revelation 19 and verse 10 reads.
Rev.19:10] And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
I hope now we can understand what Jesus said in Matthew 5 and verse 17 reads.
Mat.5:17] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
[18] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Back to Romans 5 and verse 6 reads.
Rom.5:6] For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Let’s go to Isaiah 53 and verse 4 reads.
Isa.53:4] Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
[5] But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Back to Romans 5 and verse 7 reads.
Rom.5:7] For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
Would you die for someone that didn’t love you, Jesus did.
Rom.5:8] But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Christ died for all of us. John 3 and verse 16 reads.
John 3:16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
[17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
And in 1John 3 and verse 16 reads.
1John 3:16] Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
[17] But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
[18] My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
Back to Romans and verse 9 reads.
Rom.5:9] Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Saved through Christ on the cross, saved from his wrath. That cup will be poured out. Let’s go back to 1John 1 and verse 7 reads.
1John 1:7] But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Back to Romans 5 and verse 10 reads.
Rom.5:10] For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
By his death and resurrection. Let’s go to John 14 and verse 18 reads.
John 14:18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
The Comforter, the Holy Spirit, will come to us.
John 14:19] Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
By his death and resurrection, we will live also.
John 14:20] At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
The Comforter, Holy Spirit, is God the Father and the Son dwelling within us.
John 14:21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Manifest is to make known. Keep his laws and do them, then the Father and the Son dwell within us by the Holy Spirit. Back to Romans 5 and verse 11 reads.
Rom.5:11] And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
Let’s first look at this word Atonement. G2643 katallagē pronounced kat-al-lag-ay’ and means; 2. adjustment of a difference, reconciliation, restoration to favour. a. in the NT of the restoration of the favour of God to sinners that repent and put their trust in the expiatory death of Christ. Atonement means; reconciliation.
Atonement is our sins being covered by his blood on the cross, but through his resurrection, our sins are forgiven on repentance. An awesome example of love. Back to Romans 5 and verse 12 reads.
Rom.5:12] Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Sin came into the world through Adam and Eve while they were in the garden. Let’s go to Genesis 2 and verse 16 reads.
Gen.2:16] And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
[17] But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
God told Adam, do not touch the tree of knowledge of good and evil, this was that old Serpent called Satan. Check my study in Genesis 2 and learn what that sin in the garden truly was. Do not overlook that we are still under law, and the law says we are all sinners. Back to Romans 5 and verse 13 reads.
Rom.5:13] (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
Let’s go to 1John 3 and verse 4 reads.
1John 3:4] Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
Back to Romans 5 and verse 14 reads.
Rom.5:14] Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
Adam H121 is ʼÂdâm pronounced aw-dawm’. Comes from H120 and H119. This man Adam is given the article and the particle, Eth-haw-Adam, The Man Adam, that through his loins the Christ would come. Adam means; to show blood in the face, or the ability to blush. This race was created on the eighth day as opposed to all other races being created on the sixth day. Back to Romans 5 and verse 15 reads.
Rom.5:15] But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
Understand that grace is; Unmerited favor, meaning we didn’t earn it, it was given. Let’s go to Isaiah 53 and verse 10 reads.
Isa.53:10] Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
It pleased the LORD because he fulfilled the first prophecy of Genesis 3:15, when they bruised his heels on the cross.
Isa.53:11] He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
[12] Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Prophecies fulfilled. Back to Romans 5 and verse 16 reads.
Rom.5:16] And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
Whether by fullness or completeness, judged by our faith in our offences. Let’s go to 1Corinthians 11 and verse 32 reads.
1Cor.11:32] But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
Chastened is disciplined, God only disciplines those he loves. Back to Romans 5 and verse 17 reads.
Rom.5:17] For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
Speaking of the sins of Adam providing the reign of death, but through the death of the second Adam, being Jesus Christ by grace, comes Righteousness.
Rom.5:18] Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
Now we can understand the plan of Salvation from the beginning was through Jesus Christ. Let’s go to John 1 and verse 1 reads.
John 1:1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[2] The same was in the beginning with God.
[3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
[4] In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
[5] And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
Skip down to verse 14 with me and it reads.
John 1:14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Immanuel, God with us. Back to Romans 5 and verse 19 reads.
Rom.5:19] For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
By one came into the world by sin, and the other, through grace, came forgiveness. Do not overlook it said, many, meaning not all would be made righteous.
Rom.5:20] Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
Let’s go to John 15 and verse 20 reads.
John 15:20] Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
[21] But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.
His namesake is Christian. Christ men.
John 15:22] If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.
Immanuel came into the world to be crucified for our sins and not for his, because he had no sin.
John 15:23] He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
[24] If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
[25] But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
[26] But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
The Holy Spirit is our Comforter.
John 15:27] And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
Those who overcome by law and repentance, will receive Salvation from this world. Back to Romans 5 and verse 21 reads.
Rom.5:21] That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
Law lets you know when you sin, it convicts you. Repentance by faith through his grace saves you, Christ saves you. Let’s go to John 1 and verse 16 reads.
John 1:16] And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
[17] For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
Through Jesus Christ only can you be saved. Let’s go to his throne.
