In today’s study our titles are; Verses 1-2 The abundant life is a separated life. Verses 3-7 The humanity of Jesus Christ. Verses 8-15 Paul’s affection for the Roman Christians. Verse 16 The power of the gospel. Verses 17-32 The guilt of mankind.
I will not apologize for God’s Word, instead I will teach the Word of God boldly, truthfully and accurately from the scriptures and the manuscripts. I do not teach hate, but God’s love for all. Romans was written about 60 A.D. You might remember that Felix was replaced by Festus at this time. Acts 24:27. I have found through much investigation Paul wrote this book to the Romans, and not from Rome. I believe this was written while Paul was in Puteoli. Acts 28:13. Romans 1 and verse 1 reads.
Rom.1:1] Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
Yes, called to be an apostle. Some would tell you Paul was not an Apostle, but would you believe Peter? Let’s go to 2Peter 3 and verse 15 reads.
2Pet.3:15] And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
[16] As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
Saying that Paul not only a brother in Christ, but wrote many of the books of the New Testament. That he wrote many of the complicated scriptures as well, making them easy to understand. Back to Romans 1 and verse 2 reads.
Rom.1:2] (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
Paul was an awesome scholar of both the law and the prophets. He would convert many of the Jews by the scriptures in which Christ was mentioned.
Rom.1:3] Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
Let’s go to Isaiah 7 and verse 14 reads.
Isa.7:14] Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Now let’s go to Isaiah 9 and verse 6 reads.
Isa.9:6] For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
[7] Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Let’s go to Jeremiah 23 and verse 5 reads.
Jer.23:5] Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
[6] In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Now let’s go to Matthew 1, the angel of the LORD is speaking to Joseph, and verse 21 reads.
Mat.1:21] And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
[22] Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
[23] Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Now let’s go to John 1 and read both verses 1 and 14.
John 1:1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
This Word is Logos in the Greek, Jesus Christ.
John 1:14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Prophesied in the Old Testament that God, Jesus, would come in the flesh. Remember it said in Genesis 1:26 let us make man in OUR image, he included himself. Back to Romans 1 and verse 4 reads.
Rom.1:4] And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
He is speaking of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Let’s go to Hebrews 2 and verse 14 reads.
Heb.2:14] Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Back to Romans 1 and verse 5 reads.
Rom.1:5] By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
This word nations is plural, and means all the Gentile nations. Paul received grace on the road to Damascus. Let’s go to Ephesians 3 and verse 7 reads.
Eph.3:7] Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.
[8] Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
For the Jews received him not, he went to the Gentiles. His threefold ministry was given to him by God. To the Jews first, then the Gentiles and finally to the kings.
Eph.3:9] And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
[10] To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
[11] According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
Paul has started off pretty strong with his wisdom. Not many churches today can understand these first three chapters of Ephesians simply because they don’t understand the first six chapters of Genesis. We have three earth ages, Ion in the Greek and means a length of time. Back to Romans 1 and verse 6 reads.
Rom.1:6] Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:
[7] To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Saints are set aside ones or his Elect. Are you called? Notice that it says; To all that be in Rome. This was not written while he was in Rome.
Rom.1:8] First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
When Paul finally comes to Rome, it says in Acts 28 and verse 21 reads.
Acts 28:21] And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of Judaea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee.
[22] But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.
This sect is Christianity. Spoken against by the Jews who did come out of Judaea. Back to Romans 1 and verse 9 reads.
Rom.1:9] For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;
Don’t overlook serve with my spirit. It is the spirit and not the flesh that we serve him with.
Rom.1:10] Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.
His journey will be with great anxiety, they will be shipwrecked on Malta for three months. Here is why I think Paul is writing from Puteoli, let’s go to Acts 28 and verse 12 reads.
Acts 28:12] And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days.
[13] And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli:
[14] Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome.
After Puteoli they were going directly to Rome. Back to Romans 1 and verse 11 reads.
Rom.1:11] For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;
That he might establish a sureness in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Rom.1:12] That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
[13] Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.
One can strengthen another in Christ. When you see the word Ignorant, think unlearned. Paul will have much to teach when he joins them.
Rom.1:14] I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.
Greeks being plural means; To all the ethnos or to all races other than Israelites. To those educated and uneducated.
Rom.1:15] So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.
This is the promise given to Abrams, let’s go to Genesis 12 and verse 3 reads.
Gen.12:3] And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Because from his seed would come the Messiah, The Christ. Let’s go to Revelation 14 and verse 6 reads.
Rev.14:6] And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
[7] Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Back to Romans 1 and verse 16 reads.
Rom.1:16] For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
[17] For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
This is written in the prophet Habakkuk 2 and verse 3 reads.
Hab.2:3] For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
[4] Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
Showing to us this is written for the end times and will be explained in a moment. Back to Romans 1 and verse 18 reads.
Rom.1:18] For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
God’s wrath is poured out on those who are evil and unrighteous in the end times.
Rom.1:19] Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
It is written in his Word. Manifest means; to make known, he will open the eyes of his Elect when you read his Word.
Rom.1:20] For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
First notice that it said Godhead, this is the Trinity. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Even nature knows what is right and what is wrong. What he is saying is; if you don’t know what is right or wrong, then look at nature. Nature will never be perverted in the ways of men. Let’s go to Psalms 19 and verse 1 reads.
Psa.19:1] The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
[2] Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
[3] There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
[4] Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
[5] Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
[6] His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
Let’s go to Jeremiah 5 and verse 21 reads.
Jer.5:21] Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:
[22] Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
[23] But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.
Back to Romans 1 and verse 21 reads.
Rom.1:21] Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Because they mock God, God hardened their hearts. The evil of today was prophesied in many places, let’s go to 2Kings 17 and verse 14 reads.
2K.17:14] Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.
[15] And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them.
[16] And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.
Now let’s go to Jeremiah 2 and verse 5 reads.
Jer.2:5] Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?
[6] Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?
[7] And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.
[8] The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.
There will be many antichrist in the world today. Check your teachers, are they teaching from the Word of God or out of their own hearts. Back to Romans 1 and verse 22 reads.
Rom.1:22] Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Wisdom comes from God and they mock God. John 9 and verse 39 reads.
John 9:39] And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
The LORD can open eyes and he can close them.
John 9:40] And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
[41] Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
How the wise become foolish. Back to Romans 1 and verse 23 reads.
Rom.1:23] And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
God is not flesh he is Spirit. But man cannot understand unless God gives it to him. It said above that man makes an image of God out of the creation. Let’s go to Psalms 106 and verse 18 reads.
Psa.106:18] And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.
[19] They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.
[20] Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.
[21] They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;
Don’t overlook God their Savior. Back to Romans 1 and verse 24 reads.
Rom.1:24] Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Do not stop reading if you are a homosexual, this could be your only chance to hear the Word of God. Let’s go to Leviticus 18 and verse 22 reads.
Lev.18:22] Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
And Leviticus 20 and verse 13 reads.
Lev.20:13] If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
Now some preachers will tell you we are not under law anymore. That is a lie, let’s listen to Jesus in Matthew 5 and verse 17 reads.
Mat.5:17] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
[18] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
[19] Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Verse 19 is for the false teachers that say we are not under the law anymore. Now let’s go to 1Corinthians 6 and verse 8 reads.
1Cor.6:8] Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.
[9] Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
[10] Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
But on repentance we are given the gift of Salvation. The beauty of Christianity.
1Cor.6:11] And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Repent, be forgiven and return back to the LORD. Back to Romans 1 and verse 25 reads.
Rom.1:25] Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
The Creator being the One blessed forever.
Rom.1:26] For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
[27] And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Burned means; Desired. Let’s go to Deuteronomy 23 and verse 17 reads.
Deu.23:17] There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.
Neither lesbian or gay.
Deu.23:18] Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God.
Dog is given for the position in which they lay. Keep them out of the churches, out of the house of God. Let’s go to Isaiah 44 and verse 20 reads.
Isa.44:20] He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?
One cannot blame another for the deceit in which he wholly believes. Back to Romans 1 and verse 28 reads.
Rom.1:28] And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
When they are doing these things which are detestable to our Father, here is what the Father will do to them. Here is what is happening in the world today.
Rom.1:29] Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
[30] Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
[31] Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
Let’s go back to Habakkuk 2 and verse 3 reads.
Hab.2:3] For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
[4] Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
Has not this prophecy come to pass in our world today. We see that these children who do not know whether they are boys or girls, have been turned over to that reprobate mind. Do they not hate us for our Fathers namesake? Back to Romans 1 and verse 32 reads.
Rom.1:32] Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Those that know God’s Word know the judgement is death. But some churches today teach falsely that it is OK to be homosexual, they have pleasure in perverting children to everlasting hell. We must embrace these young men and women with God’s Word and bring as many as we can back to the Father, back to Salvation of Jesus Christ.
To those that are homosexual and never heard this truth from God’s word, repent. That’s all, just repent, for we all have sinned. Repentance is a change of heart (mind). Meaning we don’t want to do them again, having heard the truth. It is not the unpardonable sin. Meaning it is pardonable upon repentance. Think not that God hates you, but read his Word and find solace. Let’s go to Psalms 51 and verse 1 reads.
Psa.51:1] Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
[2] Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
[3] For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
[4] Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
[5] Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
[6] Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
[7] Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
[8] Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
[9] Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
[10] Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
[11] Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
[12] Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
[13] Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Think God hates sinners? He was hung on a cross, his arms ripped from socket. They spit on his face and they crammed a crown of thorns on his head. He did this for you and me, that on repentance, he would blot out our sins and give Salvation to us. God is love, he gave himself for you and me. But truth is truth, homosexuality is a sin, simply repent and be forgiven. Let’s go to his throne.
