Luke 23, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. And verse 1 reads.

Luke 23:1] And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.
[2] And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

Accused with lies, he didn’t forbid tribute (taxes) to Caesar. Neither did he call himself King, though he is King of kings and Lord of lords.

Luke 23:3] And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.

“I didn’t say that, you said that” Jesus would say. He was not King of the Jews, but King of all Israel.

Luke 23:4] Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
[5] And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.

Stirred them up with truth. Pilate finds out he is a Galilean, so he sends him to Harod.

Luke 23:6] When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean.
[7] And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.
[8] And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.
[9] Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.

Prophesy fulfilled. Isa.53:7 and it reads.

Isa.53:7] He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

Now if you want a good study give all of Isaiah 53 a read. Back to Luke and verse 10 reads.

Luke 23:10] And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.
[11] And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.

They mocked and beat him, Father reward them according to their works.

Luke 23:12] And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.
[13] And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
[14] Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:
[15] No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.
[16] I will therefore chastise him, and release him.

Pilate thought that if they saw him beaten, they might have more sympathy for him. But these being the Kenites, there will be no sympathy.

Luke 23:17] (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)

Customary to release one from the prison at Passover.

Luke 23:18] And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:

Now Barabbas means “son of my father”, Jesus is the Son of God. what we have here is a decision, which son of which father will these people want. Being Kenites, offspring of Cain, the first murderer. It won’t be a surprise.

Luke 23:19] (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)
[20] Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.
[21] But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.
[22] And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.
[23] And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.

They prevailed because they threatened Pilate that Jesus said he was king, and there is only one king at this time, that is Caesar. If this got back to Caesar then Pilate would be in big trouble even though it is a lie.

Luke 23:24] And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
[25] And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
[26] And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.

First Simon is a Hebrew name, it means “a hearing”. Second it was Passover, they came from all over the world to Jerusalem at this time to give homage.

Luke 23:27] And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.

It was morning now as they led him away to be crucified. The trial took all night.

Luke 23:28] But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
[29] For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.

Jesus is not talking about being pregnant, he is talking about prophesy, and the end of the world. When he returns at the second advent. First let’s look at Isa.54, and it reads.

Isa.54:1] Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.
[2] Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;
[3] For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.
[4] Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.
[5] For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
[6] For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.
[7] For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee.
[8] In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.
[9] For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.
[10] For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.

Now we know that we are waiting for that marriage to the Lamb. And Jesus has been gone for two thousand years, if he returns and you are with child, then you were not faithful to him. We must think spiritually, He looks at it this way, you slept with the Devil and are with child. That’s his emotions that he is sharing with you right now. And when the true Christ comes at the 7th. trump and finds you deceived and worshipping the antichrist you will pray for mountains to fall on you out of shame. Let’s go to Rev.6:13-17 and it reads.

Rev.6:13] And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
[14] And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
[15] And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
[16] And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
[17] For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

They want the mountains to fall on them out of shame. Back to Luke 23 and verse 30 reads.

Luke 23:30] Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
[31] For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

If they crucified Jesus in the flesh, what will they do to us in the absence of him.

Luke 23:32] And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.
[33] And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
[34] Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Psa.22:22 fulfilled.

Luke 23:35] And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.
[36] And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,

This vinegar is poor man’s wine. Read all of Psa.22 when you find time, it was written 1,000 years before by king David.

Luke 22:37] And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.
[38] And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
[39] And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
[40] But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
[41] And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
[42] And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
[43] And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Nobody is out there in a hole in the ground. Instantly we go to the Father. Ecc.12:7.

Luke 23:44] And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

From 12pm.-3pm.

Luke 23:45] And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.
[46] And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

He would cry out “my god, my god why has thou forsaken me”. he was quoting the first verse of Psa.22.

Luke 23:47] Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

This centurion became a believer and was converted.

Luke 23:48] And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned.
[49] And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.
[50] And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counseller; and he was a good man, and a just:
[51] (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.
[52] This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.

Joseph of Arimathea was Jesus’s uncle, and a disciple of Jesus. He was a rich man, and kinsman redeemer. He and only he could receive the body of Jesus.

Luke 23:53] And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.

It was his sepulchre.

Luke 23:54] And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.

At evening was the 15th. the Passover.

Luke 23:55] And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
[56] And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

And our Christ was crucified. We teach “Christ crucified” because with out it there is no resurrection. Let’s finish today with the reason. Let’s go to Heb.2:14 and it reads.

Heb.2:14] Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

Let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
