We continue in chapter 2:31 today. Remember we are listening to Peter give the people a lesson with the Holy Spirit speaking through him. He had just said that king David was a prophet, and he was because he wrote many of the Psalms. Let’s continue and verse 31 reads.
Acts 2:31] He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
Jesus was resurrected on the third day. His body did not see corruption, meaning that it didn’t rot, there are no bones, God took Enoch, God took Moses, and Elijah, and now Jesus. Let’s go to Psa.16:10 and read.
Psa.16:10] For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Back to Acts and verse 32 reads.
Acts 2:32] This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
[33] Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
We saw and spoke with him, and now you hear his voice through us now.
Acts 2:34] For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
[35] Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
This is why God asked who can build me a house? He uses the earth as his footstool.
Acts 2:36] Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
This will hurt, but know that it wasn’t them, though some might have agreed.
Acts 2:37] Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
[38] Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Repentance and baptism, then receive the Holy Spirit, is that all. No, in the name of Jesus Christ, that’s how you receive repentance, then and only then may you receive the Holy Spirit.
Act 2:39] For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Are you called? Do you feel the Holy Spirit within you when you read his word?
Acts 2:40] And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
[41] Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
3,000 souls in one day were added to the church. That was a big crowd that they were speaking to. Just testing you, “that the Holy Spirit was speaking to”.
Acts 2:42] And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
[43] And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
They taught the doctrine of Jesus, and stayed many days teaching and healing. Many miracles were done, because the Holy Spirit was with them.
Acts 2:44] And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
[45] And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
They gave to the poor and were preparing to go and spread the Gospels to the world.
Acts 2:46] And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
[47] Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
And the church grew mightily.
Acts 3
Acts 3:1] Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
It was 3pm. And time for the daily oblation.
Acts 3:2] And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;
[3] Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.
[4] And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.
[5] And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
[6] Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
[7] And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones received strength.
Now, who healed him? Jesus Christ healed him by the Holy Spirit that was in Peter and John.
Acts 3:8] And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
[9] And all the people saw him walking and praising God:
[10] And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.
[11] And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.
Peter and John will be offended here, but will straiten them out.
Acts 3:12] And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?
[13] The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.
These that cried crucify him and give us Barabbas.
Acts 3:14] But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;
[15] And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.
[16] And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.
Some names of Jesus are given here. Holy One, Just, Prince of Life. But that they boldly stood up and spoke this truth is our example for these end times to do so boldly also.
Acts 3:17] And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.
Letting them down softly and said with “ignorance” you did this. Remember the LORD can harden the heart, that is your mind.
Acts 3:18] But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.
Psalms 22, Isa.53. just to name a couple.
Acts 3:19] Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
Don’t overlook that. When your sins are forgiven, they are blotted out. They never exist again. As it they never happened, this is the love of the Lord.
Acts 3:20] And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
There will be a second Advent.
[21] Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
[22] For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.
Let’s go to Deuteronomy 18:15 and read.
Deu.18:15] The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;
God will open eyes and ears to those that love him, but with that comes a warning to those that hate him.
Acts 3:23] And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.
[24] Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.
Talking about Davids kingdom, meaning that Christ would come through him. Let’s go to 2nd.Sam.7:14 and read.
2nd.Sam.7:12] And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
Back to Acts and verse 25 reads.
Acts 3:25] Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
Here they comfort them and tell them they are of the seed of Abraham, and this promise was given to them a long time ago. That all the world shall be blessed through them, that Jesus would come though the seed of David.
Acts 3:26] Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.
The promise of God that Salvation was to come through Judah. Great study today, let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
