Acts 2 will cover the Pentecost, the fiftieth day after Passover. Many misteach this as an unknown tongue or language. But we will find it means the opposite of that, actually meaning in a tongue that all that heard it understood it in the language that they were born in. So, let’s get started and verse 1 reads.
Acts 2:1] And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
They were told to wait for the Holy Spirit at Jerusalem.
Acts 2:2] And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
This wind in the Hebrew is Ruwach H7307 in the Strongs’, and in the Greek is Pneuma G4151, and is the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:3] And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
This word “cloven” is G1266 in the Strongs’ and means to distribute. To distribute at one time and in all languages. Only the Spirit of God can do this.
Acts 2:4] And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
This reminds me when we are delivered up to the antichrist that He will give to us in that hour what to say. And it will be in this tongue that the Holy Spirit will speak to all the world and the whole world will understand at the same time. this would be the unpardonable sin that we were warned about in Luke 12.10-12, and it reads.
Luke 12:10] And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
[11] And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:
[12] For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
Back to Acts and verse 5 reads.
Acts 2:5] And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
There are three times a year that all Israelites from all over the world came to Jerusalem to worship. Passover, Feast of Weeks (Pentecost), and Feast of Tabernacles. This is why I can say that Simon that carried the cross for Jesus was not a gentile but of Jacob.
Acts 2:6] Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
This word confounded would be better translated amazed. Because they all heard in their own language. Not in an unknown tongue. Churches teach that unless you speak gibberish (Rapid, unintelligible talk; meaningless chatter; jargon) you can’t receive or don’t have the Holy Spirit. This is nonsense, and a false teaching, a false church. Funny how a “new religion” can create a new church.
Acts 2:7] And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
[8] And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
Even in the dialect in which we were born. Aren’t these just hillbillies from Galilea.
Acts 2:9] Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
[10] Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
[11] Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
This is a long list of languages that heard this. What was it that they heard? The wonderful Works of God. And all in their own tongues.
Acts 2:12] And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
[13] Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
They said “their drunk”.
Acts 2:14] But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
[15] For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
It’s only 9am. It is against the law for an Hebrew to drink that early.
Acts 2:16] But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
[17] And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God,I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
This Pentecost tongue that spoke to them was for us. For the end times, an example for you and me. For the “last days”. Let’s go to Joel 2:18-32 and it reads.
Joel 2:28] And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
[29] And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
[30] And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
[31] The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
[32] And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.
Back to Acts 2 and verse 18 reads.
Acts 2:18] And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
Notice that it says sons and daughters, who says that women can’t preach? But now let’s go to Mark 13:9-11 and it reads.
Mar.13:9] But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.
[10] And the gospel must first be published among all nations.
[11] But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
This is our destiny, to stand and be delivered up to the antichrist. Having the Holy Spirit speak through us is a great honor. These are the Elect, the Chosen. Back to Acts and verse 19 reads.
Acts 2:19] And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
[20] The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
Meaning the antichrist comes first, there will be no flying away, then the true Christ. Notice that this sounds a lot like Revelations. These things will come to pass exactly as written, are you prepared to stand with the gospel armor on, and serve the Lord?
Acts 2:21] And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Whomsoever, believes on Him. For he paid the price for all.
Acts 2:22] Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
Says “You men of Israel”. Proving he is talking to all tribes of Israel, there are twelve. To say “Jews” is insulting to me. Judah, correctly said, is only one tribe, remember there are twelve tribes.
Acts 2:23] Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
Who the Kenites among you crucified, your church leaders and high priest. Psa.22.
Acts 2:24] Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
Jesus defeated Death that is the devil. Heb.2:14.
Acts 2:25] For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
Let’s go to Psalms 16:8 and it reads.
Psa.16:8] I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Peter continues giving a really good sermon to them. Back to Acts and verse 26 reads.
Acts 26] Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
[27] Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Meaning, Jesus was to be transfigured.
Acts 2:28] Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
[29] Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
[30] Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
Calling David a prophet, David wrote many of the Psalms and Psa.22 prophesying the crucifixion. We will finish this chapter tomorrow. Let’s go to his throne.
Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
