1 Corinthians 13 and verse 1 reads.

1Cor.13:1] Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Paul spoke more languages than any other. Charity is love, saying he has none, means he also speaks tough love. As he has been hard with them concerning their sins.

1Cor.13:2] And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

Without charity, Love, we have no compassion. No compassion, you are not walking with God but against him.

1Cor.13:3] And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

There is no profit in anything if you have not the compassion for others.

1Cor.13:4] Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

Love is patience, love cannot envy. Love has no pride.

1Cor.13:5] Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

This is true love. True love is of God.

1Cor.13:6] Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

Rejoice not in sin but in truth. The truth is God’s Word.

1Cor.13:7] Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Without provocation. Taking from the last word of the last verse, Truth. Should read; Truth bears all things, truth believeth all things, truth hopes for all things, truth endures all things.

1Cor.13:8] Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

Tongues should have been translated “languages”. Love will never fail, love is eternal. All these are of the flesh, or while in the flesh. But the spirit only can be eternal.

1Cor.13:9] For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

We prophesy, Teach, what we learn. We learn only if the Lord gives it to us.

1Cor.13:10] But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

When the second advent comes, Jesus returns, it then supersedes and the flesh goes away and will never return.

1Cor.13:11] When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

When I was immature in God’s word, I was like a child. But now as I grow in the Lord’s word, I become mature, and can be used by the LORD to do his works. I love the teaching of Jesus in the gospels on this. Remember when he said to his disciples you must be as one of these children to inherit the Kingdom of God? Think about this for a minute. When a child looks up to his father he believes everything he says. Nobody is stronger than his dad. This is how we are to him, looking up to our Father. God is our Father, we are his children and he loves us so much, he took the stripes and we get the healing. He died for us so we can repent and have everlasting Life.

1Cor.13:12] For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

In the flesh we have Faith, and the hope of Jesus Christ. In the spirit I will know myself as the Father knows me.

1Cor.13:13] And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Do not overlook this word “abideth”. It is G3306 in the Strongs’, menō in the Greek. And means 1. to continue to be, not to perish, to last, endure. And the Lord says the greatest is charity, Love. We abide in the Lord, and the Lord will abide in us. John 14:16 reads.

John 14:16] And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

The Comforter is the Holy Spirit, it dwells (Abides)within us. This is Life Everlasting. Let’s go to his throne.

Father, we thank you for your word and ask that you bless all that love you in Jesus’s precious name, Amen.
