1Thessalonians 1 and verse 1 reads.
1Thes.1:1] Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Giving here the Godhead, the Father and the Son, in this salutation to begin with. Let’s not overlook how he said this. He gives the salutation, then says Grace and peace from God and the Son. This means he delivered a message of Grace and Peace from the Father and the Son to them directly.
1Thes.1:2] We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;
Always praying for the churches to God the Father. Matt.6:6, 9.
1Thes.1:3] Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;
[4] Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.
God’s elect, his chosen, having the knowledge that the antichrist comes before the true Christ. Paul would teach on three levels, Acts 9:15.
1Thes.1:5] For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
Many miracles were performed by the Holy Spirit for them. This is that Power. Now, this Holy Spirit makes up the whole Godhead. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
1Thes.1:6] And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:
All Christians were being persecuted in those days. All of the Twelve Apostles were killed in horrible ways, John was boiled in oil. Having miraculously been brought back to life before their eyes he survived. And was at that time put on the isle of Patmos. Where he would write the great book of Revelations. Later after his sentence, he was released into today’s Turkey, where he alone lived out the rest of his life in peace. Joy in affliction for Christ.
1Thes.1:7] So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.
Being examples of troubles for us today.
1Thes.1:8] For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.
In so doing, you delivered the truth to others in faith.
1Thes.1:9] For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;
After leaving your idols, you found truth in your faith, becoming believers.
1Thes.1:10] And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
Teaching them here that Jesus would come down from heaven at the second advent. This is still to come and we wait patiently for the seventh trump, knowing the sixth trump will be the antichrist. What happens at the seventh trump when Jesus returns? It won’t be pretty when those vials are poured out. Not on us, but those that believed and were deceived by the antichrist. Let’s go to his throne.
